文章大意:本文是说明文。主要介绍了超越世界和地球的渴望创造了对太空旅行的需求,导致了太空旅游的兴起。

1 . Travel enthusiasts fifty years ago talked about travelling to fascinating places around the world. Today the talk is about going beyond the world and the Earth. The thirst is creating a demand for space travel, giving rise to space tourism.

The space fights are not cheap - each flight into outer space costs about U.S. $20 million. Up till now, it has solely been enjoyed by a few adventurous super-ich men. To reduce the high cost of space travel for the mass market, space travel agencies now have a creative plan to offer suborbital flights, which cost much less. These joyrides will enable the tourists to reach the edge of space, which is more than 62 miles above the Earth, and allow them the experience of a few minutes of weighlessness as they gaze at the Earth below, before they return down to Earth again.

Space tourism is, however, not an environmentally friendly adventure. The black carbon emitted by the spacecraft could either raise temperatures at the poles, causing a melting of the ice or lead to rising temperatures, contributing to global warming. The emission of black carbon also causes the ozone molecules to break apart, contributing to several kilotons of carbon dioxide to the atmosphere.

Looking beyond Earth, an increase in space travel would mean that Man would not only leave his footprint in space but also his waste—space tourism can contribute to pollution of the environment of the outer space. With no current plans for waste disposal, one can only imagine clumps of litter floating around the planets.

Without doubt, space tourism opens up new exciting possibilities. With time, the price of the flights to space would become more reasonable. Increasing commercialization of space travel would also mean that a structure would be put in place for the disposal of space waste. However, with no immediate solution to counter the possible impact on climate changes and the thinning of the ozone layer, space tourism would probably prove to be yet another controversial (有争议的) venture of mankind.

1. What push space tourism to develop?
A.Investment from millionaires.B.Talks between travel enthusiasts.
C.People’s ambition to travel.D.Human’s travel habits and customs.
2. How do travel agencies reduce the high cost of space travel?
A.By reaching the orbit of the spaceship.
B.By cutting the distance of space travelling.
C.By allowing the people to travel alone in space.
D.By guiding travelers to gaze at the earth when landing.
3. According to the passage, what will eventually make space travel controversial?
A.The high cost of space fight.B.Causing global warming.
C.The lack of waste disposal project.D.Further Ozone layer build-up.
4. Which of the following can be the best title of the passage?
A.The Next Tourist Attraction: Space
B.Pros and Cons: Space Science Is on the Way
C.A Milestone in Technology: Manned Spaceship
D.A Controversial Program: Travel for the Ozone Layer.

3 . At 12, my father decided to take me on a trip to France. I had never been out of the country before, so I was very excited. My aunt, my father and I went around with my father showing us all the unbelievable sites in Paris. None of us spoke much French but we loved the city.

We had taken the subway all over the city and were congratulating ourselves on our mastering what is honestly an excellent subway design that is pretty easy to follow. We decided to visit Versailles by train. We chatted happily along the way until my father realized we were far into the French countryside and no one around spoke English.

We reached the end of the line and felt afraid when everyone finally left the train. An old man and his grandchild noticed us and came to help. He spoke no English, so in broken French we tried to explain. When he finally understood, this great man settled his grandson and showed us to the correct train and then boarded with us.

Later we knew the truth that there was a train transfer (转乘) and he didn’t want us to miss it. This kind man rode a train for an hour and a half out of his way to make sure that three Americans got where they wanted to be. He refused to let us pay for his ticket. He did it all with a gentle smile and patted our hands gently at the stop. Then in his quiet way, he boarded the train to return the way he had come.

What impressed me most was the man and his kindness during the amazing trip. Some Americans think the French are rude for some reason, but I always try to persuade them to change their minds with this very story.

B.They failed to get off the train at the right time.
C.They had different opinions about where to go first.

2. How did the man help the author and his family?
A.He paid for their train tickets.B.He showed them the returning way.
C.He invited them to travel together.D.He led them to their place.
3. Which of the following can best describe the last paragraph?
A.Seeing is believing.B.Being kind is a good manner.
C.Travelling enriches one’s life.D.Helping others brings great pleasure.
4. What’s the purpose of the author’s writing the text?
A.To explain an unexpected problem.
B.To list the unbelievable sites in Paris.
C.To share an unforgettable foreign experience.
D.To show the importance of mastering a foreign language.

6 . A Journey to the Yosemite Firefall

Each year, thousands of people are attracted to the Yosemite National Park in California for a chance of seeing —and photographing ——the unique “firefall”. The amazing “firefall” comes to life only when there is enough water from the melting(融化)snow to keep the Horsetail Fall flowing and when the light of the setting sun hits the waterfall at the right angle. It can only be seen for a short time in February on clear sunny days.

This year, the weather isn’t stopping the “firefall” from happening, but it is making the journey to see it more difficult.

“What would have been a 10-minute walk turned into a two-hour hike through deep snow,” photographer Ryan Fitzsimons said about his recent trip to see the phenomenon. “Our clothes were all wet by the time we got to a viewing site. But the heavy snow made the sight much more beautiful since the waterfall is much bigger this year.”

Another photographer Andy Heitz was making his first trip to see the “firefall”. He had to wait five hours in the extreme cold for his turn to take a picture.

“I got to the site at about 12:00 at noon. The place was already filled with hundreds of people waiting to see and photograph the ‘firefall’. I was so lucky that I shot a really wonderful burner! I was completely amazed with what I saw,” he said. “You know, only on a couple days of the year in February and when the sun sets down at the perfect angle to shine on Yosemite’s Horsetail Fall can we see the ‘Fire Fall’. I’ll never forget what I have seen.’’

The “firefall” should continue to be there from 20 to 24 February. But park officials said that there’s no guarantee(保证)that visitors will see it on any given day.

1. When might be the best time to take pictures of the “firefall”?
A.Early in the morning.B.At noon.
C.Late in the afternoon.D.At night.
2. Why might the “firefall” disappear between 20 to 24 February this year?
A.There wouldn’t be enough snow.B.It might be too cloudy.
C.The waterfall might not freeze.D.The snow might melt too fast.
3. What does the underlined word “burner” in paragraph 5 refer to?
A.A worker in the kitchen.
B.The fire in the Yosemite National Park.
C.A part of a cooker or stove.
D.The unique Horsetail Fall in the setting sun.
4. What is the main purpose of this text?
A.To introduce an attraction.B.To give suggestions for a trip.
C.To advertise a park in the US.D.To explain what is a “firefall”.

8 . Having more than 500 revolution- related sites, Zunyi of Guizhou province is a city immersed in red culture. "Zunyi is a city rooted in revolutionary history," said Zheng Yunjie, 17, who is from the city. "    1    However, they usually have a good impression toward Zunyi, I guess it's the 'red culture' that gives the city a positive image and makes it popular." Indeed, Zunyi has a close connection with the development of the Communist Party of China (CPC)and the Red Army, a forerunner of the People' s Liberation Army. During the Long March(1934—1936), Zunyi is where the Red Army, under the command of the CPC, turned setbacks into victories.

2    They learn to cherish the "red spirit". Zheng, for example, has seen the rusty guns of the Red Army soldiers, visited the steeps of Loushanguan, and admired the monument carved with former leader Deng Xiaoping's words, "The spirit of the Red Army is forever remembered."

Schools also organize red-themed activities to pass on the cultural heritage to younger generations.    3    Huang Xinyi, 13, has participated in red-themed hand-copied newspaper competitions. In one of her articles, Huang wrote, "Looking like a rooster on the map, my motherland is grand and magnificent. With the red scarf floating over my chest, the Party's great mission is remembered in heart."

4    The city has seen over 630.5 million visits during the past five years, gaining a revenue of about 641.67 billion yuan, according to China Daily. Every year from 2016 to 2020, with the help of booming "red tourism", more than 50,000 local people were able to shake off poverty.

5    Tourists can dress like Red Army soldiers from head to toe for less than 100 yuan at Long March-themed cosplay shops in the city center. At local memorial sites, Red Army-related plays bring history back to life, reported China Daily. The Zunyi Conference site is a part of the planned cultural park. Mou Xinyue, 17, once volunteered as a tour guide at the spot. "Many tourists made special trips to Zunyi from thousands of miles away, just to relive those hard but glamorous days," she told China Daily, "The red history makes Zunyi a big name across the country, and I believe the cultural heritage will bring my hometown an even brighter future."
