If one travels to Chengdu for the first time, Chunxi Road is a place that should not be missed. Chunxi Road     1     (build) in 1924 to connect two commercial (商业的) centers. It provides lovely food choices, attractive sightseeing, and a lot of shopping chances for visitors. It is     2     (real) an excellent place     3     (have) fun and experience the life of Chengdu locals.

    4     (stand) at the north end of Chunxi Road are some statues. An old man     5     (dress) in traditional Chinese clothes holds a snuff (鼻烟) bottle in his hand. Not far from him, a modern young lady in fashionable clothes is walking in     6     hurry. A stone lock statue lies between them. It shows the time 00:00 on February 10,2002, the date     7     the rebuilding was finished. The old man stands for the businessmen from the past, while the lady stands for the modern young people.

Chunxi Road is a paradise (天堂) for shopping with all kinds of stores selling goods from international high-end things     8     cheap ones. Besides, the     9    (tradition) Chengdu food here will make your mouth water. Famous local     10     (snack), such as Zhong Dumplings, Lai Tangyuan and Han Baozi, are delicious and cheap, getting popularity among visitors across the world.

I often travel around the world because of my work. As     1     result, I stay in a lot of hotels. Here are two hotels I     2     (stay) in and I really like them.

The first is the Amazon Towers Hotel in the middle     3     the Amazon rain forest. Guests at this hotel sleep in tree houses! Eight towers make up this hotel and there are over 300 rooms in the hotel. The most amazing thing about the hotel is staying in rooms thirty feet above the ground and traveling between the towers through     4     (wood) paths. Prices are very different     5     (vary) from $300 a night for a regular room to $3,000 for the     6     (good) suite（套房）in the hotel.

The second hotel is the Ice Hotel,     7     is built every winter in a city in Sweden. Each year, world-famous artists     8     (invite) to design and produce works of art from the ice. Many of these     9    (sculpture) can be found in the rooms. Prices start at $318 a night per person. Guests can choose either a cold room     10     a warm one.

This summer I travelled from noisy Beijing to Wuzhen, a beautiful village in Zhejiang Province. Unfolded before me was     1     unique image of this water country—the stone bridge and the water flowing, all like fairy tales to me.

However,     2     impressed me most was not the natural scenery but the scene of a grandma bathing a little baby in a wooden basin with the door open. My friends couldn’t help     3     (take) pictures of them. To my surprise, the grandma smiled and waved at us. All of a sudden, my heart was filled with     4     (warm).

I shared the photo and my     5     (forget) experience with my friends. They were     6     (simple) moved as I was, but at the same time they reminded me of the unpleasant experiences in big cities. We feel embarrassed to see people quarreling in public because they     7     (step) on accidentally by strangers.

According to a recent survey     8     (make) in November 2016: 45 percent of the residents don’t know the names of their neighbors; 63 percent have never devoted     9     (they) to talking to their neighbors; 67 percent think that the relationship between them and their neighbors is just so-so, or even bad.

Wouldn’t it be beautiful to say hello to our neighbors who just came back     10     work and give them a smile?

Chengdu has dozens of new millionaires, Asia’s biggest building, and fancy new hotels. But for tourists like me, pandas are its top     1    (attract).

So it was a great honour to be invited backstage at the not-for-profit Panda Base, where ticket money helps pay for research. I     2    (allow) to get up close to these cute animals at the 600-acre centre. From tomorrow, I will be their UK ambassador. The title will be     3    (official) given to me at a ceremony in London. But my connection with pandas goes back     4     my days on a TV show in the mid-1980s,     5     I was the first Western TV reporter     6    (permit) to film a special unit caring for pandas rescued from starvation in the wild. My ambassadorial duties will include     7    (introduce) British visitors to the 120-plus pandas at Chengdu and others at a research centre in the misty mountains of Bifengxia.

On my recent visit, I held a lively three-month-old twin that had been rejected by     8    (it) mother. The nursery team switches him every few     9    (day) with his sister so that while one is being bottle-fed,     10     other is with mum—she never suspects.
