That is amazing about the Great Wall is that it is main made of stones and bricks, and that all the construction was done by hand. As it was used to protecting the country from foreign invaders, every a few hundred meters along the Great Wall, there was a watchtower. Now, as a symbol of China, the Great Wall has become one of the most famous tourist attraction in the world. There is no wonder that the Great Wall attracts thousands foreign tourists every year.

2 . People always say that education is the best investment you can make in your kids.I agree. However, people forget that your children can learn from experiences outside school.Family travel allows kids to explore new cultures, spend quality time with their parents and expand their horizons. My parents taught me this and took my brother and me to South Africa,Russia and Europe when we were kids.I have carried on this tradition and I hope my children will continue it.

Traveling with children is neither easy nor cheap, but it is worth every penny. Both my kids got their passports mere weeks after they were born and boarded their first plane to Chile when they were only three months old. With careful planning, the hassle(困难)of going through airport security and enduring an overnight flight can be minimized and once you arrive at your destination,it is so worth it.

Every city, every town and every country they have visited has allowed my children to learn so much more than what they learn in a classroom.Traveling exposes them to so much more than a textbook. They have experienced different cultures, smelled the local markets, touched handicrafts made by local artisans, and tasted different foods. They have been in places where there is limited contact with the rest of the world and seen how living conditions vary not only between different countries, but also between different cities.

Actually,my kids(now 7 and 10)have learned to pack. They know what they can take through airport security and what is not allowed to go through it.The most important thing they have learned so far, though,is that we do not share the same background, but we can all find common ground. They have learned to respect others and felt respected as well.

1. What is the main idea of the passage?
A.Kids like to travel around the world.
B.Family travel is a great investment.

A.Because she likes to explore new areas and meet new people.
B.Because she wants to give her kids a comfortable life.
C.Because she believes kids can benefit a lot from it.
D.Because she misses her parents very much.
3. What can we learn from para.2?
A.The author’s kids started travelling as very young babies.
B.Travelling with kids is an easy job for the author.
C.Travelling with kids actually costs little money.
D.Travel can be a great challenge for young babies.
4. We can learn from Para.3 that the author’s kids______.
A.like to visit classrooms in different countries
B.don’t like studying in the classroom
C.realize that there are many poor people in the world
D.have gained much knowledge from their experiences

With its wonderful Georgian and Victorian architecture, and winding medieval streets, it’s easy to see why Edinburgh has been listed as a World Heritage Site.

The     1     of Edinburgh is fascinating. Edinburgh Castle dominates the urban skyline, lying on the cliff of an ancient volcano right in the center of the city. Yet Edinburgh is not     2     in the past. And neither is it all about bagpipes, shortbread, whisky and tartan.

In fact, the city is one of the most vibrant, international cities in Europe and is     3     voted as one of the most desirable places to live in the world. The capital is     4     with arts, culture, sports and attractions and is famous for playing host to the world’s largest arts festival. After dark Edinburgh has a lively nightlife with     5     bars and pubs, restaurants, clubs and live entertainment to rival any European city.

In Edinburgh, there’s plenty of open space too, with a large number of public parks and green spaces     6     in the busy city center. For active types, there’s a(n)     7     and varied choice of activities and sports in Edinburgh and the surrounding area. Or if you just want to     8     your wallet, the capital is a great place to shop. This is a city that knows how to be both     9     and modern.

The capital of Scotland is a great place to live and study in, with a wide range of theatres, galleries, clubs and shops to     10    , not to mention the plenty of arty bars and cafes.

4 . If you're looking to fully experience Africa's breathtaking scenery, and have an eye for adventure, then there's only one place to be. Here, inside Africa picks four of the best hikes from across the continent.

1. Kilimanjaro

Make it to the top of Tanzanians 5,895-meter Kilimanjaro, and you'll be standing at Africa's highest point. The mountain is Africa's most-visited hiking destination, attracting tens of thousands of tourists and adventures every year.

You don't have to be a technical climber to climb Mount Kilimanjaro; you just need not be pretty physically fit. There are six routes to choose from difficulty, scenery and success. No special equipment.

2. Atlas Mountains

The High Atlas is an impressive mountainous range in central Morocco that hosts North Africa's highest peak — Mount Toubkal, at 4,165 meters. There's a variety of routes to follow during your climb but inexperienced climbers should note that the hike through the mountain' challenging zones is quite demanding.

3. Mount Kenya

A long-extinct volcano. Mount Kenya is Africa's second-highest peak, at 5,199 meters.

Lying just south of the equator, the mountain's deep valleys and diverse wildlife will guarantee you wonderful scenery and a fantastic hiking experience.

The climb, however, to the mountain's steep ice-capped peaks is quite challenging, making it the most technical, probably, in that East African area.

4. Mount Meru

Mount Meru may forever exist in the shadow of its neighbor, Kilimanjaro, but Tanzanians second-highest mountain (4,565 meters) has its own devotees.

It's less known, but Mount Meru is for the true enthusiast who wants to experience what very few people actually do.

Mount Meru is often used by mountaineers to accustom themselves before trying to conquer Kilimanjaro, or by those wanting a hike with the local Massai.

1. What do we know about Kilimanjaro?
A.It's the highest mountain in the world.B.It's relatively easy to climb.
C.Its six routes can be chosen by difficulty.D.The climbers need special facilities.
2. Why do mountaineers climb Mount Meru first before they do Kilimanjaro?

5 . You want to have fun and adventure and so you decide to travel somewhere to do it. Sounds like a simple enough thing. And basically it is. But what is adventure?     1

For those who love sports, adventure travel can have a whole different meaning than for those who like history. The physical travel types that you can find include such adventure travel as white water rafting (白浪漂流), climbing and hiking to some mountains somewhere. To the hiker, backpacking across Ireland might be their adventure.     2    Often the goal is to push their body’s limits and test their individual endurance (耐力).

For those who less want to climb mountains, it might mean traveling to Nepal and joining in the local festivals.    3     Anything that is going beyond the normal defines (定义) adventure.

4    Adventure depends on the persons physical limits, how much money the person has and what the person enjoys doing. If your life is quite busy, then sitting on a beach in the moonlight with your family might be adventure for you. The point is not what you do but that you have a good time and that it is an adventure for YOU—not for the person next to you.

Do not sit home this year when vacation time rolls around.     5    You will be rewarded handsomely.

A.Adventure travel is not necessarily suitable for everyone.
B.To those sports lovers, adventure travel means nothing but harm.
C.Adventure travel is not necessarily a one-size-fits-all type of vacation.
D.That is the key here and the answer can be different for different people.
E.Just go beyond your normal routine and head out on an adventure vacation.
F.For this type of person, adventure travel almost always means something physical.
G.Wine tasting in Italy is also vacation adventure for those who enjoys peace and comfort.
