2 . Irish architects Yvonne Farrell and Shelley McNamara were selected as the 2020 Pritzker Prize Laureates (获奖者), announced Tom Pritzker, Chairman of the Hyatt Foundation which sponsors the award that is often referred to as “architecture’s Nobel”. Yvonne Farrell and Shelley McNamara have practiced architecture together for over forty years in a way that clearly reflects the objectives of the Pritzker Prize: to recognize the art of architecture and consistent service to humanity as evidenced through a body of built work.
They were awarded for their generosity toward their colleagues, commitment to excellence in architecture, responsible attitude toward the environment, ability to be cosmopolitan while embracing the uniqueness of each place in which they work, for all these reasons and more, according to the 2020 Jury Citation.
As architects and educators since the 1970s, Farrell and McNamara have created spaces that honor history while presenting their mastery of the urban environment and craft of construction. Their works never repeat or copy, but are decidedly of their own architectural style.
Their native Ireland, an island dotted with mountains and hills, breeds their acute sensitivities to geography, such as the changing climate and nature, in each of their sites. The campus of UTEC Lima, one of their works, for example, is located on a challenging site with a highway sunk in a valley on one side and a neighborhood on the other. The result is a vertical building responding to both site and climate needs. Its open spaces are designed to deliberately welcome the cool wind from the ocean and minimize the need for air-conditioning.
According to McNamara, architecture anchors us and connects us to the world as a framework for human life. She adds that possibly no other space-making discipline(科目) can do this. Farrell continues, “At the core of our practice is a real belief that architecture matters. It is a cultural spatial phenomenon that people invent. ”

U.S Holocaust Memorial Museum
The museum is a memorial to the millions of Jews who died during the Nazi regime (政权) in Germany during World War II. The exhibits tell us the terrible history. There is a separate exhibit for kids, which tells the story of the cruelty of the Nazi through the eyes and voice of a young boy.

Mount Vernon Estate and Gardens

From Europe’s biggest science festival to the coolest projects, check out this month’s science events.
Edinburgh Science Festival
For two weeks every April, Scotland’s capital city Edinburgh is home to Europe’s biggest science festival. This year’s festival will have a particular focus on life forms, life cycles and how to fight climate change.
Highlights include the City Art Centre, which has been transformed into a five-floor science playground. Meanwhile, over at the National Museum of Scotland, visitors can become an immunologist (免疫学家) for the day and make their own vaccine. Bubblegum Alley
SAN LUIS OBISPO. CALIFORNIA
Bubblegum Alley is covered from top to bottom with chewed gum, a tradition that was started mysteriously by the locals in the 1950s. Some artists even created images of funny faces and the American flag. Unhappy community members had the “masterpiece” removed twice. But the clean-up didn’t stick, and soon more gum appeared. Now the alley has more than two million pieces of gum on it.
Giant Penguin
CUT BANK, MONTANA
Bundle up when you visit this statue, because temperatures here can get as low as 47 degrees below zero. As a nod to the frosty conditions, a local businessman built the 27-foot-tall penguin out of 10 000 pounds of concrete. The creator left for warmer weather, but the statue- seven times the height of a real emperor penguin-still stands, welcoming visitors to its cold home.
Tin Family
REGENT, NORTH DAKOTA
This Tin Family appear along the Enchanted Highway, a 32-mile stretch of road displaying seven huge metal sculptures. A group of farmers constructed the family using materials such as oil tanks and wire. Tin Son is 23 feet tall, Tin Ma is 44 ft. and Tin Pa stands 45 feet tall.

Not ready to dive the depths of the ocean to see a blue whale? No problem. Just visit this 80-foot-long concrete beast, which even has a side and diving board so visitors can take a swim in the pond. When the artist died,the whale fell into bad condition. Neighbors couldn’t stand to see the whale fall apart. so they fixed it and now keep it bright with blue paint.

Central Park is New York’s largest city park and one of the biggest in the world, with an area of 843 acres (about 3.4km2). This park is home to man-made lakes, waterfalls, grass and wooded areas. You will also find the Central Park Zoo, among other attractions in this greenspace of New York.
Besides being the city’s primary green lungs, Central Park is also a favorite spot for many New Yorkers. It is perfect for sunbathing, going for walks, or doing any outdoor sports. Something that we found curious is seeing so many people running with their babies in prams (婴儿车).

El Morro Castle

Arecibo Radio Telescope

The brainchild of Cornell University Professor William Gordon, the observatory has been an important scientific structure since its opening in 1963. Visitors can explore this one-of-a-kind attraction through the science and visitor center, and can also take a guided tour and have a look from an observation deck.
Serralles Castle
The Serralles Castle is located atop a hill in Ponce and was constructed by the Serralles family, who had had much success in the alcohol business through their brands such as Don Q rum. Visitors can take a guided tour of the castle, see the spectacular views from the building and stop by its museum. There are also beautiful gardens to stroll in.
