Additional highlights include: a scenic flight over the Glacier Bay Natioiml Park, a rafting trip through the heart of the Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve, historic Skagway, a whale-watching cruise and the company of knowledgeable local guides.
HIGHLIGHTS:
JUNEAU: Juneau, the state capital, is rich in culture and scenic beauty. It is here that we start and end our trip.
HAINES: Haines is a small community located along the fiords (峡湾). The natural beauty and expansive wilderness found here have made Haines a premier centre for adventure in Alaska. In 2004, Haines was listed by Outside Magazine and National Geographic Adventure as one of the best places for recreation and living. The activities listed below are located in Haines.
ALASKA INDIAN ARTS: Alaska Indian Arts is a nonprofit corporation dedicated to the preservation and continuation of traditional native craft and culture of the Northwest Native Tribes. Alaska Indian Arts is also the headquarters for several of Alaska’s outstanding craftsmen and artisans. We spend a few hours learning carving, native beading (串珠饰) and culture from these master artists.
SKAGWAY: Skagway is famous for its role in the Klondike Gold Stampede over 100 years ago. Today, it is a historic yet lively town, which still reflects its gold rush roots and contains colourful shops. In Skagway, we stop by the Klondike Gold Rush National Park Visitor’s Centre and ride the White Pass & Yukon Route Railway.
GUSTAVUS: Gustavus is the gateway to the Glacier Bay National Park. We’ll stay at a comfortable lodge here for two nights. This will be the base for both the whale-watching excursion and a full-day cruise in Glacier Bay.

2 . Canberra, the capital of Australia, lies in the southeast of the country. From this city, it is about 290 kilometres to Sydney, and over twice the distance to Melbourne. The former faces the Pacific Ocean, and the latter is dose to the Bass Strait through which ships from Sydney can enter the Indian Ocean.
When the Federal Government of Australia was founded in 1901, no one knew where Australia’s capital would be. The two cities of Melbourne and Sydney both wanted the honour. Instead, the founding fathers chose a piece of land between the two cities for the new capital. The government would build a new city called Canberra as the country’s capital.
In 1911, the government invited world leading architects to enter designs for Canberra in a contest. An architect from Chicago named Walter Burley Griffin won this international competition for the design of the new city. Construction began in 1913 but was interrupted by World War I (1914 〜 1918). Twenty-four years later, the construction was finished, but the government moved to this new city ten years before it was completed.
At one time, almost everyone in Canberra worked for the government. However, the city today has become a centre of education and a favourite place for tourists. Now people can hold a government job, or they can work in business. They also make a living by teaching or meeting the needs of tourists.
People find life in Canberra relaxing and pleasant. The city is surrounded by beautiful mountains where people can ski. There is a large man-made lake lined with beaches and parks in the centre of Canberra. Canberra is now Australia’s largest inland city. Many people living there come from other cities in Australia and other lands. Some come to Canberra to work, and others come here to escape from the busier way of life found in many other cities.

5 . Melbourne is where I grew up so it obviously means a lot to me. It’s a city that is constantly developing. Melbourne people, like all Australians, enjoy travelling and their increasing experience of other countries means local tastes have changed. The city has become much more cosmopolitan (世界性的).
Someone told me that in Melbourne you can sample the cuisines of seventy-five different countries; I haven’t managed to eat my way through them all, but it’s a wonderful challenge. And besides the top-class restaurants, you mustn’t miss Melbourne’s café culture and wonderful beachside places at St Kilda.
If you enjoy your food, you will love exploring local produce markets. One I really like is the Queen Victoria Market on the corner of Victoria and Elizabeth Streets, which sells a huge variety of fruit and vegetables.
My friend joined me for my most recent trip home. It was fun showing him all the familiar landmarks, but also going to places I’ve never been before. From Melbourne, we took the Great Ocean Road, a 150-mile highway that is a scenic delight. We passed through an area that includes the world-famous Twelve Apostles, the Otways rainforest and Bells Beach along with resort (度假胜地) towns such as Torquay and Apollo Bay.
We’ve still got a pretty extensive “to do” list, including a trip to Queensland and the Barrier Reef. And although I’ve been to Hayman Island a couple of times, I’d like to get to know some of the more special resort islands that can be reached only by private boat or helicopter.
The flight to Australia is a long one but perfectly comfortable if you follow a routine like mine. I get on board and immediately change into my flight pyjamas (睡衣) — one day I’m going to work out how to accessorise them with fashion items, but until then I just look like someone wearing pyjamas!
I just love to travel. It’s an Aussie thing: as a people we are up for jumping on a plane and going off to explore. I can’t wait to see where I’ll go next.

8 . Many people like traveling. Travel in Canada has become exciting as a number of lakes make it attractive. In fact, Canada has more lakes than any other country which contains fresh water. In addition to lakes, Canada has a number of beaches as it has a long coastline on its north, east, and west. Travelers from around the world come in large numbers to enjoy the sunbath on various beaches.
Niagara Falls lies on the border between Canada and the US. It is now popular for its beauty and is a valuable source of hydroelectric power. Niagara Falls is most attractive during the summer season when the weather condition is charming and attractive. At the Canadian side, floodlights illuminate both sides of the falls for several hours after dark and the whole scene becomes magnificent.
When traveling in Canada, travelers can enjoy doing the shopping in Toronto which is considered a leading city. It symbolizes the spirit of independence. Migrants from Europe, Latin America and Asia inhabit the place and make it a plural society. Ottawa, on the other hand, is the capital of Canada and center of political activities.

10 . Millions of people pass through the gates of Disney’s entertainment parks in California, Florida and Japan each year. What makes these places an almost universal attraction? What makes foreign kings and queens and other important people want to visit these Disney parks? Well, one reason is the way they’re treated once they get there. The people at Disney go out of their way to serve their “guests” as they prefer to call them and to see that they enjoy themselves.
All new employees, from vice presidents to part-time workers, begin their employment by attending Disney University and taking “Traditions I”. Here, they learn about the company’s history, how it is managed and why it is successful. They are shown how each department relates to the whole. All employees are shown how their part is important in making the park a success.
After passing “Traditions I”, the employees go on to more specialised training for their specific jobs. No detail is missed. A simple job like taking tickets requires four to eight hours of training a day. When one ticket taker was asked why it took so much training for such a simple, ordinary job, he replied, “What happens if someone wants to know where the restrooms are, when the parade starts or what bus to take back to the campgrounds? We need to know the answers or where to get them quickly. Our constant aim is to help our guests enjoy the party.” Even Disney’s managers get involved in the daily management of the park. Every year, the managers leave their desks and business suits and put on special service clothes. For a full week, the bosses sell hot dogs or ice cream, take tickets or drive the monorail and take up any of the 100 jobs that make the entertainment park come alive. The managers agree that this week helps them to see the company’s goals more clearly.
All these efforts to serve the public well have made Walt Disney Productions famous. Disney is considered by many as the best mass service provider in America or the world. As one long time business observer once said, “How Disney treats people, communicates with them, rewards them, is in my view the very reason for its success. I have watched, very carefully and with great respect and admiration, the theory and practice of selling satisfaction and serving millions of people on a daily basis, successfully. It is what Disney does best.”
