4 . Did you know that, in 2016, over 18 million people attended classical concerts in Germany? That’s more people than those who went to main league football matches! Earlier this year, Germany continued its celebration of classical music with the opening of a new concert hall in the heart of Hamburg. Germans are very proud of it and it’s the first thing I show to my friends when they come to visit.
Known as the “Elphi” by the locals, the Elbphilharmonie is a beautiful tower of glittering glass sitting atop an old warehouse by the banks of the river Elbe. The plaza (露天广场) is open to the public and from the middle of the city’s tallest building, you can gaze across the harbour, miles of rooftops and passing ships below.
The main concert hall seats over 2,000 people and is one of the most advanced music venues in the world. Two smaller concert halls are used for jazz, world and contemporary music. In addition, if you’re unbelievably rich, you can buy one of the 45 luxurious (奢侈的) apartments lying within the building.
Construction began in 2007 with a budget of 241 million and a twoyear period. Fast forward ten years, the building eventually opened with a final price tag of over 800 million!
I consider myself very lucky that the Elbphilharmonie opened during my time living in Hamburg, but unfortunately I haven’t yet been able to attend a concert. Everything is sold out for six months! For now, I’m content to visit the plaza to enjoy the impressive views over the clocks and see the innovative architecture up close. Hopefully one day soon, I’ll be lucky enough to grab a lastminute concert ticket!

6 . Must see in Guangxi
A Broad Spectrum of Scenery
What you will find here is beyond towering mountains, dense forests, and picturesque scenery. This alpine (高山的) scenic spot spreads across 17,008 hectares, with over one-third being primeval (原始的) forest. Its natural landscape can be magnificent but quiet, special but elegant. The high humidity makes the sea of clouds a common scene here thanks to the mountain climate. And the scenery varies with the season. Here, you can appreciate splendid blossoms in spring, avoid summer heat in the cool canyon, step on red leaves scattered on the ground in autumn, and get stunned by the rime ice in winter.
A Hotel in Nature
Chaoranpai International Hotel is only 2 kilometers away from the Lijiang River Source Grand Canyon. By taking both the ecological design and standards of 5-star hotels into account, this hotel has integrated modern services and nature, especially bamboo. The hotel also offers entertainments such as go-carting, cosplay of counter strike, and Chinese-style tea houses. Besides, the mountain itself is like a natural oxygen bar.
A Heaven of Fauna and Flora
Mao’er mountain is abundant in rare animals and plants. Inhabited by 2,484 species of plants and 345species of vertebrates, this place can serve as a natural gene bank. And surprisingly, a rare alpine wetland featuring
evergreen broad-leave d trees has found a way of surviving in the dwarf forest at a high altitude.
Two ways to get there
1. Take a train and get off at Xing’an Bei station, and take the shuttle bus that goes directly to the Mao’er mountain.
2. Take the Guilin-Xing’an bus from Guilin bus station, get off at Baizhupu station (Zibai Road Intersection), and take the shuttle from Baizhupu to Gaozhai, which is at the foot of the Mao’er mountain.

BKLYN House Hotel
The hotel is special because of widespread works by Brooklyn artists. The 116 rooms are valuable and Manhattan is only 20 minutes away by taxi or subway. The environment makes it feel urban—the hotel is by a public housing project while the nearest commercial street is under tracks—but Bushwick’s best bars, cafes, and restaurants are nearby.

8 . Ecotourism(生态旅游): A Different Way to Travel
Are you attracted to obscure(偏远的)places? Do you prefer to vacation away from other tourists? Are you careful to take only memories and to leave only footprints? If you answered yes to more than one of these questions, you just might be an ecotourist.
Ecotourists are people who want to experience the unspoiled natural world and leave it that way when they return home. This trend started in the 1990s and ecotourism is now growing three times faster than the tourism industry at large. The Ecuador’s remote Amazon Basin(盆地) is contributing to that expansion, and it gives a snapshot of what ecotourism looks like.
At the Ecolodge, a small group of cabins(小屋) sits Kapawi Ecolodge in the middle of the Achuar people’s reserve(保护区) and is only reached by air. From here, visitors can explore parts of the Amazon rainforest seen by few outsiders. As they do local Achuar guides explain how the forest is like their supermarket, where they find food, clothing, medicine and tools. As a result, tourists learn to appreciate the local culture as well as the natural environment.
The owners of Kapawi pay monthly rent to the Achuar people, but they also train the community to run and manage the lodge. They have agreed on a plan to turn the operation over to the Achuar completely by 2011.The owners are working to make ecotourism benefit and empower the local people.
You probably won’t start your own ecolodge, but you can be an ecotourist if you follow these guidelines: Protect the environment; Support local businesses; Respect the local customs and traditions.
The world is full of fascinating places to visit. As an ecotourist, you can enjoy them yourself and make sure that they remain beautiful for future generations as well.
1. According to the text, the ecotourists should be________.A.those who like to experience the easily-remembered natural environment |

D.those who prefer unique natural environment of cultural relics |
A.explore the Amazon rainforest |
B.reach there by air |
C.live in the Achuar reserve |
D.see many travelers from outside |
A.Idea. | B.Aim. |
C.Adventure. | D.Opportunity. |
A.the Kapawi Ecolodge will continue to run and manage the lodge after 2011 |
B.the Kapawi Ecolodge owners are the Achuar in favor of ecotourism |
C.the Achuar people have benefited a lot by collecting money from ecotourists |
D.the owners of Kapawi encourage tourists to appreciate the Achuar culture |
9 . I have well travelled in Spain and visited a good number of Spanish cities. However, no city will ever quite match Cadiz, where I spent six months studying as a student.
Before that, I knew very little about Cadiz but I decided to take a risk and explore it. Well, the risk certainly paid off.
Cadiz, Europe’s oldest city, hangs off Spain’s southern coast on a peninsula (半岛), surrounded almost entirely by water. As you leave the shady streets of the historical old city and explore more of it, you are met with vast areas of the blue Atlantic Ocean and white sandy beaches, which in my opinion are some of the best in Spain!
One of the great things about Cadiz is the wonderful, rich culture of food and drink. There are little tapas (小吃) bars lining every street and most will serve tapas for around 1.50~2 euros, meaning you can try a whole variety of Andalusian dishes.
Cadiz has also come to be known as “The Singing City”. It comes from the annual carnival (狂欢节), one of the biggest in Europe. A very large number of people go to Cadiz to see it. During those ten days, Cadiz’s narrow streets are filed with the sound of singing as musical groups fight for a place in the contest, which takes place on the last Saturday of carnival. The songs perfectly show the sense of humor of the Gaditanos, who, besides being so warm and welcoming, are said to have the best sense of humor in Spain!
That is my experience of Cadiz: a wonderful, typically Andalusian city which is often overlooked but well worth a visit. I can currently living in Huelva, just a short drive from Cadiz, so please pay attention to my next sharing!

C.The geographic position and scenery of Cadiz. | D.The author’s complex attitude towards Cadiz. |
A.A number of local people enjoy humorous songs. |
B.Singing is everywhere during a big annual carnival. |
C.Many grand carnivals attract well-known singers. |
D.A lot of singing competitions take place each year. |
A.A post on the Internet. | B.A geography textbook. |
C.A travel brochure. | D.A biography. |
10 . Whether you’re traveling with teens or kids, there’s an option for you below.
Jamaica
Jamaica is a preferred place when it comes to family vacations for a reason. Yes, there are amazingly blue waters and extensive sandy beaches—also there’s plenty of adventures to be had. Putting up nights at the Royalton Negril, you don’t even need to leave the resort to entertain your family, since there’s a mini water park and kids’ club on site.
Puerto Rico
Puerto Rico is great for American families in need of an easy getaway, since US citizens don’t need a passport to visit. After some time on the island’s beautiful beaches, explore the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Old San Juan, which is just two hours from Miami and less than four hours from New York City, by plane.
Dominica
Families with active teens should head to Dominica for an off-the-beaten-path experience. The youngest Caribbean island at just 26 million years old, it’s nicknamed the Nature Island for its thick rain forests, plentiful waterfalls, and volcano-fed hot springs. The island is also home to one-of-a-kind attractions like the Waitukubuli Sea Trail—the only sea kayaking (皮划艇) trail in the Caribbean.
Barbados
If you want your beach vacation with a side of history, head to Barbados. Beyond its great natural setting, the island has an abundance of cultural experiences that are engaging and educational for adults and children alike. Explore the colonial architecture in Bridgetown, tour the Barbados Museum & Historical Society, or appreciate works by local artists in the Gallery of Caribbean Art in Speightstown.
