2 . A staycation is a vacation when you do not travel at all. Some people use a staycation to just stay at home, and others prefer to experience the attractions around them without travelling very far.

There are many choices for staycations. Any town or city has plenty of choices for things to do if you know where to look. If the weather is nice, you can visit the local gardens or forests for a hike. You can look online for several historic places and create your own history tours. Of course, you can also visit other attractions in the areas like museums, restaurants, parks, beaches and so on.

Others take the term “staycation” word for word and do not leave their houses at all. Some choices for this can include taking time off to cook a great meal and enjoy it together, or spending all day at a pool.

Just as a coin has two sides, staycation has both its advantages and risks. Since you are not travelling or staying in a hotel, a staycation can be unbelievably cheap. You are also saving by not driving very far and by not taking an airplane anywhere. Travel costs have become really expensive, so the farther you go, the more expensive it is. By staying close to home, you cut that cost by quite a bit. Finally, any stress that you feel with travel, whether that is from driving long distance or looking for an airport, will completely disappear.

1. What is the purpose of the text?
A.To introduce the general information on staycations.
B.To compare staycations with other vacations.

A.usually travel to cities far away

D.either relax at home or travel near their homes
3. What will probably be discussed in the following paragraph?

文章大意:这是一篇说明文。作者就去美国旅行过程中的住宿问题向大家做了介绍。

7 . When you visit America, you will see the word “motel” on signs and notice boards. It is made up of “motor” and “hotel” and it is really a hotel for people who arrive by car (however, you don’t need a car to stay at one). You have to pay when you arrive for your room, which usually has a bath. Meals are not provided, but there will certainly be a cafeteria (自助餐馆). Along the main roads there are a lot of motels. Some provide television in every bedroom while others have swimming pools. Motels are especially useful when you are in the country, far from a town or city. You will also find them in the big National Parks.

In these great National Parks, you may meet guests you don’t expect to see. An American friend told me a little story. In the middle of a moonless night she heard strange noises outside her motel window in the Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming. Thinking it might be a thief, she jumped out of bed, opened the door and crept(悄悄地缓慢行进) towards a dark shadow. As she got close, she saw the thief. She was dreadfully frightened: It wasn’t a human thief—it was a big black bear. The bear was turning over some empty tins(罐) with its paw, looking for tasty bits of food. My friend decided to leave that particular thief alone!

There are also, of course, places called “rooming houses”, where they receive lodgers (房客). You will see such signs as Tourists or Rooms Rent, and you could try one of these. A word of warning—looking for a room in New York during the tourist season is like looking for gold on the moon!

1. What can we know about motels?
A.The word “motel” is formed by two words.
B.They are free for people who arrive by car.
C.If you want to stay at a motel, you must have a car.
D.You can only find motels in the big National Parks.
2. Which of the following is not provided by motels?
A.TV.B.Baths.C.Meals.D.Swimming.
3. What does the second paragraph mainly tell us?
A.A little story of the author’s.B.The experience of the author’s friend.
C.Bears usually look for tasty food at night.D.A thief crept into the author’s room.
4. What does the underlined part mean?
A.Tourists cannot find gold there.B.It is easy to admire the moon there.
C.Tourists can have a sweet dream there.D.It is difficult to find a room there.

文章大意:本文是一篇说明文。文章介绍了独自旅行、和朋友一起旅行、跟团旅行各自的优缺点,并给出相应的建议,鼓励读者去尝试不同的旅行方式。

8 . You can travel alone, with friends, or with a tour group. They all have strong points and weak points.

The best thing about traveling alone is that you can do what you want to do. No waiting around in places you aren’t interested in, no missing a bus because your friend was late. This may sound selfish (自私的), but this is your experience. Your experience will be greatly improved by traveling alone. The main worry is loneliness, but believe me, it’s not difficult to talk to and meet people. Just remember everyone is in the same boat; everyone wants to meet new people, have fun and be friendly! There’s a problem of safety in some countries, especially for women traveling alone. You should always check the foreign office of your country for advice on safety. Buying a personal alarm (警报装置) is a good idea for women traveling alone.

Traveling with a friend does sound nice, but it depends on how well you get on. If you have similar interests or travel ideas, it should be wonderful. You will find it much cheaper to cook food in developed countries and share a room. However, a lot of people I meet traveling together don’t seem to be having as much fun and often go their separate (各自的) ways.

Tours are great when they go well. Some of my best memories (记忆) have been with tour groups. The key there is when they go well. A terrible tour guide, quiet group and terrible food can ruin our time. My advice would be never to do a tour that is too long except in countries with safety problems or poor transport.

All in all, traveling alone is the best, but it is good to mix it up. Invite a friend from home to meet you for a few weeks. Try a tour or two — some people love them — perhaps start with a day tour.

1. What should a woman do if she wants to travel alone?
A.Check the map often.B.Get an alarm.
C.Do not talk to new people.D.Ask friends for safety advice.
2. What is the writer’s advice on traveling with friends?
A.Live in different rooms.
B.Always follow their travel ideas.
C.Choose those who think similarly to you.
D.Cook food when traveling in developing countries.
3. What does the underlined word “ruin” mean?
A.毁掉B.安排C.节省D.改变
4. What’s the main idea of the text?
A.Always travel alone.B.Start with a one-day tour.
C.Try different ways of traveling.D.Mix your friends up in the tour.
5. Which of the following shows the structure of the text? (P=Paragraph)
A.B.C.D.

文章大意:本文是一篇应用文。文章介绍了希腊四个适合徒步旅行的旅游景点和路线。

9 . When it comes to hiking, Greece has something for every kind of walker. The mainland boasts (拥有)well-maintained routes, while on the country’s islands you’ll find ancient paths dating back to Byzantine times connecting sleepy villages with beautiful sandy coves (小海湾). Here’s our pick of Greece’s best hikes.

Samaria Gorge(峡谷), Crete

16 kilometers(10 miles), 4 hours

Hiking the 16-kilometer Samaria Gorge is considered one of Crete’s must-do experiences, which is why you’ll rarely be without company. Nevertheless, there’s an undeniable raw beauty to Samaria, where vertical (垂直的) walls soar up to 500 meters and are just 3.5 meters apart at the narrowest point (150 meters at the broadest).

The hike begins at 1,230 meters at Xyloskalo just south of Omalos and ends in the coastal village of Agia Roumeli. It’s especially scenic in April and May, when wildflowers brighten the route.

Mt Ohi summit hike, Evia

8 kilometers(5 miles), 3 to 4 hours

The summit of Mt Ohi (Profitis Ilias; 1,398 m), lesser-visited Evia’s third-highest peak, is crowned by mysterious ancient dragon houses: 7th century BC architecture, made from rocks weighing several tons. From Myli, it’s an 8-kilometer hike to the summit (three to four hours).

It’s possible to stay overnight at the 1,000-meter-high refuge then hike up Mt Ohi to catch the sunrise(30 minutes), which makes for a magical experience. Contact South Evia Tours or Evia Adventure Tours for details.

Delphi to Kirra Walk, Central Greece

14 kilometers (9 miles), 3 to 4 hours

This 14-kilometer downhill hike follows a centuries-old pathway from historic Delphi to the ancient port of Kirra, just east of modern Itea on the southern coast of mainland Greece.

The hike starts from the E4 long-distance starting point 100 meters east of the Hotel Acropole. Skirting the village of Crissa, it goes to the gulf (海湾) through Greece’s largest olive garden. After your three-to-four-hour hike, and lunch or a swim, you can return to Delphi by bus (around 2 euros).

Hike to the Tomb of Kleobolus, Rhodes

5 kilometers(3 miles), 2 hours

An easy, enjoyable 5-kilometer(two-hour)round-trip hike escapes Lindos to reach the so-called Tomb of Kleobolus. Starting alongside Car Park 1 above the main beach, the route ends at a rocky hill topped by a circular tomb actually built during the 2nd century BC, long after Kleobolus ruled Rhodes.

1. What is the raw beauty of Samaria?
A.High and narrow gorges.B.Magical sunset.
C.Wildflowers throughout the year.D.Mysterious large rocks.
2. What will visitors see during the Mt Ohi summit hike, Evia?
A.Ancient buildings.B.Evia’s highest peak.
C.A circular tomb.D.Greece’s largest olive garden.
3. What can we learn about the Delphi to Kirra Walk?
A.It lets visitors experience the modern world of Greece.
