文章大意:本文是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了可能会与现在大不相同的2050年的生活。

1 . Life will probably be very different in 2050. First of all, it seems that TV channels will have vanished by 2050. Instead, people will choose a programme from a “menu” and a computer will send the programme directly to the television. By 2050, music, films, programmes, newspapers and books will come to us in the similar way.

In many places, agriculture is developing quickly and people are growing fruit and vegetables for export. This uses a lot of water. Therefore, there could be serious shortages of water. Some scientist predict that water could be the cause of wars if we don’t act now.

In the future, cars will run on new, clean fuels (燃料) and they will go very fast. Cars will have computers to control the speed and there won’t be any accidents. Today, many cars have computers that tell drivers exactly where they are. By 2050, the computer will control the car and drive it to your destination. Also, by 2050, space planes will fly people from Los Angeles to Tokyo in just two hours.

Some big companies now prefer to use robots that do not ask for pay rises or go on strike, and work 24 hours a day. They are also easy to control. And they never argue with people. They can be easily used in a variety of places — factories, schools, offices, hospitals, shops and homes.

Scientists will have discovered how to control genes (基因). Scientists have already produced clones (克隆) of animals. By 2050, scientists will be able to produce clones of people and decide how they look and how they behave. Scientists will be able to do these things, but should they?

文章大意:本文是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了未来人们的生活状况会会与现在大有不同,体现在工作的变化,纸的使用,太空旅行等各方面。最后,作者还认为,我们人类需要寻找另外的家园。

2 . The home of the future won’t be completely different and we will be living in houses and flats just as we do today. But people will want to shape their homes to match their dreams. No two homes will be the same. People will be able to buy “house kits” containing a basic house structure, with movable walls, doors and windows. They will put together the different parts to create the home they want.

Many jobs that we do today will disappear, others will still exist but will change and new jobs will be created. Skilled workers such as builders, gardeners and electricians won’t disappear because machines can’t replace them. Teachers will still exist because students need human contact. But they will be using modern technology in class more and students will be working more at home. The medical technology revolution and space travel will create new jobs which we can only imagine today.

Space holidays will develop in the future, but these holidays won’t be for everyone because they won’t be cheap. Short space trips will develop first;then space hotels will orbit the earth where it will be possible to have a longer vacation. By the end of the next century, there will have been holiday centres on the moon with leisure facilities (休闲设施) for families.

Paper won’t exist in the future. Instead, there will be epaper which people will be able to use over and over again. This will develop in order to save natural resources. Enewspapers and emagazines will replace traditional newspapers and magazines and we will download information and news articles from the Internet every day onto our reusable paper.

The laws of physics tell us that the Earth is going to disappear some time in the future. This isn’t going to happen tomorrow but scientists predict that it will happen in five billion years when our sun explodes. We will have to explore the universe and find another home. At some point in the distant future, either we stay on the Earth and die with it, or we leave and move to another planet. There won’t be any other choice.

1. What will homes of future be like?

A.They will become a very common way to spend holidays.
B.They will be the best holiday options for families.
C.They will attract a lot of people.
D.They will be still only for very rich people.
4. Why will epaper replace traditional paper?
A.Because it will be a symbol of fashion.
B.Because it won’t waste natural resources.
C.Because it will be cheaper to produce.
D.Because it will be convenient to carry.

文章大意:本文是一篇说明文。主要介绍了对未来生活做了大胆的畅想。智能盥洗室、智能家居、无人驾驶汽车的出现将大大改变我们未来的生活。

3 . The future is just around the corner, and according to some people who make the future their business, it doesn’t look dissimilar to what you see around you now, but below the surface there will be differences.

Your home of the future

One of the places in your home is the bathroom. It will have a toilet that can test urine (尿) for sugar levels, take your blood pressure and weigh you. All that information can then be uploaded to your doctor. Even the bathroom soap will be upgraded, which will have sunscreen (防晒霜) in it, which will stick to your skin.

The future of technology

The kitchen is often the centre of a home and it has the most potential for future changes. For example, a Web-enabled refrigerator will be able to talk to the manufacturer when a part wears out, so it can order a replacement without you ever knowing something was wrong.

Tiny, inexpensive computer chips called RFIDs, or radio frequency identification chips, will be attached to every product in your house. The refrigerator will read the chips, and will even be able to tell you when the milk has gone bad.

The counter will be able to make dinner suggestions. Your washing machine will know how to wash your favourite linen (亚麻布) skirt. And you will be able to call your oven from your cellphone to tell it when to start cooking the pot roast.

Future travelling

Futurists say robots will be a large part of life. Though a driverless car sounds like a crazy idea, it is built to be safer and more efficient than what is currently parked in the driveway.

Even with all of the changes coming in the future, the human condition will not change, though. At day’s end, you will still share a drink with a friend and kiss your kids goodnight, for no robots can do that.

1. How will the manufacturer know what part of the refrigerator is wrong?
A.The host or hostess will tell the manufacturer about it.
B.The refrigerator has a function to do that.
C.A radio set in the kitchen will perform that.
D.The Web-enabled refrigerator will tell the manufacturer automatically.
2. Why does the author use “your favourite linen (亚麻布) skirt” as an example?
A.To prove the skirt made of linen is easy to wash.
B.To show how to wash clothes or bedding made of linen.
C.To point out the intelligence of the future washing machine.
D.To introduce one of the shortcomings of the washing machine.
3. What does the text mainly tell us about?
A.How people will travel in the future.
B.What our future lifestyle will look like.
C.How people will prepare food in the future.
D.What changes will happen in our restroom.

Dear diary,

“What’s it about?” Margie asked.

“School.” replied Tommy, turning the yellow pages.

“Why would anyone write about school? I hope they can take my geography teacher away.”

“It’s not our school. This is the old sort that they had centuries ago.”

“Anyway, they had a teacher.” Margie said, reading the book over his shoulder.

“Sure, they had a teacher, but it wasn’t a regular teacher. It was a man.”

“A man? How could a man be a teacher?”

“Well, he just told the boys and girls things and gave them assignments and asked them questions.”

“A man isn’t smart enough.”

“Sure, he is. My father knows as much as my teacher.”

Margie wasn’t prepared to argue about that. She said, “I wouldn’t want a strange man in my house to teach me.”

Tommy laughed. “The teachers didn’t live in the house. They had a special building and all the kids went there.”

“And all the kids learned the same thing?”

“Sure, if they were the same age.”

“But my mother says a teacher has to be adjusted to fit the mind of each boy and girl it teaches and that each kid has to be taught differently.”

“I didn’t say I didn’t like it,” Margie said quickly.

They weren’t even half-finished when Margie’s mother called, “Margie! School!”

“Not yet, Mamma.”

“Now!” said Mrs. Jones.

Margie said to Tommy, “Can I read the book some more with you after school?”

“Maybe,” Tommy said.

Margie went into the schoolroom, right next to her bedroom, and the mechanical teacher was on waiting for her.

The screen was lit up, and it said, “Please insert yesterday’s assignments in the proper slot.”

Margie was still thinking about the old schools they had when her grandfather’s grandfather was a little boy. All the kids from the whole neighborhood came, laughing and shouting in the schoolyard, sitting together in the schoolroom, going home together at the end of the day. After its first month online, over one million people signed up. By November 2004, that number grew to 5 million. By 2006, Myspace was visited more times than Google Search and Yahoo, becoming the most visited website in the United States. If you go to myspace.com, you’ll see that it is very much still alive, though it has mostly transitioned away from social networking to become a site for planning music and entertainment. 7 .
Task: Write about what life will be in the year 2050.

In 2050, our life will be a lot different from nowadays in many aspects. The environment, transportation, education and people’s lifestyles will also change to a new level.

There are some reasons to be optimistic about life then. Along with development of scientific advances, people will have more means of transport. Solar-powered, wind-powered cars which are much more environment-friendly will be produced and used. Travelling to other planets will be more available to everyone physically, mentally and financially qualified.

In addition, everyone can afford to study in 2050. With the help of technologies, such as metaverse or something more advanced or revolutionary, we don’t need to go to school anymore.

Just stay at home and you can learn everything from online teachers, which will help us save money and commuting time. The schedule will be more optional for you to choose as long as it suits your time and your purposes.

However, there are also some reasons to worry about life in the year 2050. The more modern the technologies will be, the more polluted environment we will have. As I suppose, the future environment will have much pollution. Nevertheless, future scientists will pay more attention to this aspect so I think it will be improved soon.

Because of technologies, people will be much passive than at present. There will be robots helping people in many aspects of their lives. People won’t need to do housework or cook for meals because robots do them all. And since we can study at home, people will use computers almost every day, which may make them become much lazier and easier to be obese.

There will be a lot of changes in our life in the next decades. Whether it will be a better or worse life depends on what we will do with them and how they can influence our life…[ To be continued ]

文章大意:这是一篇议论文。文章通过假设说明,对于未来的智能机器,我们人类应该把人工智能的发展控制在人类的控制之内。

9 . Given how valuable intelligence and automation are, we will continue to improve our technology if we are at all able to. At a certain point, we will build machines that are smarter than we are. Once we have machines that are smarter than we are, they will begin to improve themselves. The concern is really that we will build machines that are much more competent than we are. And the slightest divergence (分歧) between their goals and our own could destroy us.

Just think about how we relate to ants. We don’t hate them. We don’t go out of our way to harm them. In fact, sometimes we take pains not to harm them. We step over them on the sidewalk. But whenever their presence seriously conflicts with one of our goals, we will kill them without hesitation. The concern is that we will one day build machines that, whether they’re conscious or not, could treat us with similar disregard.

The bare fact is that we will continue to improve our intelligent machines. We have problems that we desperately need to solve. So we will do this, if we can. The train is already out of the station, and there’s no brake to pull. If we build machines that are more intelligent than we are, they will very likely develop in ways that we can’t imagine, and transcend us in ways that we can’t imagine.

So imagine we hit upon a design of super intelligent AI that has no safety concerns. This machine would be the perfect labor-saving device. It can design the machine that can build the machine which can do any physical work, powered by sunlight, more or less for the cost of raw materials. So we’re talking bout the end of human labour. We’re also talking about the end of most intellectual work. So what would apes like ourselves do in these circumstances?

But the moment we admit that information processing is the source of intelligence, we have to admit that we are in the process of building some sort of god. Now would be a good time to make sure it’s a god we can live with.

1. Why does the author mention ants in Paragraph 2?
A.To compare intelligent machines to ants.
B.To show improved machines will get away from us.
C.To stress the presence of machines does conflict with our goals.
D.To explain future intelligent machines could treat us without mercy
2. What does the underlined word “transcend” in Paragraph 3 mean?
A.Disable.B.Inspire.C.Disappoint.D.Outpace.
3. How is the passage mainly developed?
A.By making comparisons.
B.By giving assumptions.
C.By showing valid evidence.
D.By analyzing statistics
4. Which of the following statements can best summarize the author’s viewpoint towards Al?
A.Human beings will no doubt be destroyed by AI in the future
B.Super intelligent AI will put an end to human labour eventually.
C.We should keep the development of AI within humans’ control.
D.Human beings should stop the development of super intelligent AL.

文章大意:本文是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了作者预测未来手机可能会出现的功能。

10 . Forecasting the technological future is difficult. Back in the 1980s, the thought of carrying around a small, portable phone seemed to belong in the world of science fiction. Then in the 1990s, imagining a phone that would allow you to surf the Internet something that didn’t even exist until 1990 was unheard-of. Today, smartphones can surf the Web, run applications and play games, and those with a near field communication (NFC) chip can act as a way to make purchases. And they can still make phone calls, too.

So what will phones look like in 2050? Based upon phone customer behavior, I imagine the future phones will rely more on combiningour physical lives with our digital lives. They probably won’t be similar to the ones we’re reusing now. They’ll be built into other devices and products. Imagine a pair of glasses that can display a digital overlay on top of your physical surroundings.

I don’t think video chat is taking off despite services like Skype and FaceTime. Rather, the trend seems to be toward asynchronous (非同步的) communication. That means the two or more people in a conversation complete a discussion over time.

We might even see the phone part of phones disappear. Recent phone customer behavior suggests that texting is a more popular way to communicate than telephone calls. Future phones will need a way to display messages but don’t necessarily include voice communication.

Since we’re talking about 2050 here, there’s even the possibility that research into brain-computer interfaces (脑机接口) will have reached a point in which we won’t need a physical screen or microphone at all. Electronics could be built into clothing. You’d link the devices to an interface connected to your brain and post messages just through thought. I’d be a form of telepathy (心灵感应).

But what do you think? Will we be wearing devices that let us communicate easily? Or will we be carrying around the iPhone 47 and answering texts between games of Angry Birds? Let us know your predictions.

1. What will future phones be like according to the author?
A.Texting may disappear.
B.NFC chips can be used for purchasing.
C.Phones will combine our lives with our work.
D.Phones may be built into other products.
2. With the development of brain-computer interfaces,                      .
A.we may send messages just through thought
B.phones can be connected directly to your brain
C.clothing may be made into the screen of phones
D.telepathy between people and animals may come true
3. From the text, we know that          .
A.people started surfing the Internet in the 1980s
B.we will be carrying around the iPhone 47 in 2050
C.the author’s prediction about phones is based on phone customer behavior
D.the author is negative about the development of brain-computer interfaces
4. Which column of the newspaper does the passage come from?
A.Economy.B.Science.
C.Health.D.Entertainment.
