Man did not have to think about the protection of his environment in the past. There were not many people on the Earth, and natural resources seemed to be unlimited.
Today, things are different.
Everyone realizes today that if too many fish are taken from the sea, there will soon be none left.
We realize that if rivers are polluted with waste products from factories, we will die. However, in most countries, waste products are still put into rivers or into the sea, and there are few laws to stop this.
We know, too, that if the population of the world continues to rise at the present rate, in a few years, there will not be enough food.
If we eat more vegetables and less meat, we will easily get more food. Land that is used to grow crops can feed five times more people than land where animals are kept.
The world population will not rise so quickly if people use modern methods of birth control.
Ways to Help Your Community Stay Quiet
Noise pollution isn’t just annoying. It can also cause psychological problems. If you want to cut back on the noise polution in your life, taking some measures together with your community will help you and your family feel happier and healthier.
Use your car horn(喇叭)only when necessary, as a way to let someone know you are around the corner.
The terrible sound of a car’s engine is never welcome, so make sure you are not the one causing noise pollution in your community and spring to get your car repaired. Keeping your car in good, quiet working order will be appreciated by everyone who lives near you.
Keep your music down.
It might sound beautiful to you, but respect the fact that others might not feel the same way. Don’t just assume that your neighbours want to hear your favourite opera as much as you do.
Communities with more trees are quieter than those without them, since large, leafy trees can help absorb noise, so such a project is always worth your effort.

B. Stay away from the noisy streets.
C.Keep your car in good working order.

3 . Landslides and earthquakes are even more dangerous now than in the past because around half of the world’s population now live-in cities. Many people in cities and towns in South America and Asia are at risk from landslides. In April 2017,the city of Mocoa in Colombia was hit by a landslide, leaving many dead and injured. A great number of people live at risk from earthquakes too. These have claimed more than 1.6 million lives in the last hundred years.
Most disaster experts believe that things could get a lot worse. Professor Hou Ming of Peking University studies volcanoes. He warns that the world has not seen the worst yet. The worst eruption in human history was probably Mt Tambora in 1815,in Indonesia. Dust from the volcano rolled across the Earth’s skies. There was no summer in Europe and America the following year. But evidence shows that 73,000 years ago there was a much greater eruption. “It reduced temperatures by maybe 6°C in some places, and the whole planet was sent into winter for years. And there are about two of these events every 100,000 years...”
