2 . Directions: After reading the passage below, fill in the blanks to make the passage coherent and grammatically correct. For the blanks with a given word, fill in each blank with the proper form of the given word; for the other blanks, use one word that best fits each blank.

My decision to leave England and travel around the world was the best decision I’ve made. I     1     (learn) so much from this journey so far, and if I could go back, I wouldn’t do it any differently.

When I lost my job     2     the economic crisis, I decided enough was enough. Within two weeks I had sold all of my furniture, given up the apartment and collected    3     much extra money together as I could from jobs, deposits and so on. With a one-way ticket out of England     4     (book), I took off and never looked back.

I contacted a friend    5     worked on a Greek island in the summer seasons, and as it turned out, it was a much     6     (easy) task to find jobs and accommodation out there. With the limited money I had left, I booked a one-way ticket to the island of Zakynthos (扎金索斯岛) in the hope of finding some time to figure out my next move while earning some money.

I had only been on the island for three days and I found my accommodation and had a job offer. From then on, I settled into a “normal routine” for holiday island workers. Every day I went to the beach or pool     7     (share) gossip with my fellow English workers. Then I would be home to change for work at 5 pm. After working from 5 p.m. to 1 a.m. with no break, I would finish and head to the closest bar for cocktails and meet the rest of my friends.

To be honest, I find it hard to recall many stories or things I did during this time, but I know I had a fun time     8     (do) it. Zakynthos became a four-month-long party where I had the best and worst time of my life.

3 . The Decision That Changed My Life

We make decisions every day. Whether it is a small decision like what to wear that day or a big decision like where to go to college, these decisions have at least some influence on the rest of our lives. I wanted to talk about a decision I made that has changed my life forever.    1    I know that it seems like such a tiny decision, but it truly has changed my life.

I gave up soda about a month and a half before my trip to the Bahamas as a healthy step towards “getting in shape” for my trip. At first I thought it was going to be really hard giving it up, but after that first two weeks I wasn’t thinking about soda at all. One tiling led to another and I started eating better, working out more and just generally living a healthier life. I had already seen a difference in my life following this healthier life style.    2     During my trip I was extremely tempted to drink soda because all we were drinking was water.    3

That was because I wanted to show those who maybe thought I wouldn’t be able to do it that they were wrong. Soon the urge to drink soda somewhat disappeared and I really did not even become tempted by it by the end of the trip. I got home to the States and when I got back home I decided to weigh myself. I had lost 20 pounds on my trip!

I also wanted to give some advice for those who were in the same situation as I was, where you wanted/needed to give up something that you think you can’t live without.    4     My friends really helped me out by supporting me and reminding me of the reason why I was doing it. Lastly, remember why you are giving it up. Use the goal of you losing weight or being generally healthier to motivate you through the struggle. In the end, giving up soda changed my life and I don’t regret my decision what so ever.

A.You need a support system.
B.I almost gave up a couple of times but stayed strong.
C.I felt happier, more energized and just all around better.
D.Weeks and weeks went by and I still was not missing drinking soda.
E.I hope you are inspired by my story to give up something that is bad for you.

8 . Traveling with small children has a lot of challenges. From the near constant complaining about being uncomfortable and thirsty to the never-ending need to see every bathroom along the way. it is a wonder that anyone survives. But. everyone does it because family holidays are fun. They are supposed to be fun right?

Too often what could be great memories are overshadowed by the stress of just keeping the kids from killing each other. I am not going to tell you that I can make a long car or plane trip pleasant or instruct you to happily sing songs in the front seat to spread your joy around. That is all crazy talk. What you can do is try a few things that might make the portion of your holiday you spend confined in a small space with your offspring bearable.

Load your Phone. Before you leave, go the app store and load up your iPhone with kid' games. There are a ton of tree games that will keep your kids busy for hours. Even if you have to spend $ 1.99, it's worth it. As a backup. toss a couple movies on there too. I am telling you, the thrill of even holding a parents' phone is a thrill for kid: having it loaded with activities is even better. By the way, bring headphones unless you like hearing the Sponge-Bob game lyrics for hours.

Make surprise bags for the children. Take little brown bags or whatever is handy and put in a little inexpensive toy or game, stickers, a little coloring book and crayons. Make one for each hour you will be in the car or plane and pass them out accordingly. Hopefully, it will keep them occupied for about twenty minutes of each hour.

The most important of all travel tips is to take it easy on yourself. The more upset you get, the worse your child will behave. They sense stress and it gets them stressed out too. Finally, and this is really important, w hen you arrive at your destination pour yourself a big glass of wine. You earned it.

1. Why is travelling with children a headache to parents?
A.Because children get along badly with their parents.
B.Because children are active and restless during travelling.
C.Because children make a lot of trouble on purpose.
D.Because there are many activities children can't attend.
2. The second paragraph mainly tells parents that ______.
A.with enough preparations. they will definitely enjoy their travelling
B.they should lend an ear and share happiness with your children
C.they can do something to make the trip as tolerable as possible
D.they should stop young children from talking nonsense
3. Which of the following is NOT mentioned as a travel tip?
A.Prepare some little surprises.
B.Download Games apps in advance.
C.Bring some crayons and colored pencils.
D.Try to have them join in your conversation.
4. The best title for this passage is ______.
A.How to travel with children
B.How to make your children happy
C.How to make your travel unforgettable
D.How to drive away boredom during the trip

9 . In the villages of the English countryside there are still people who remember the good old days when no one bothered to lock their doors. There simply wasn't any crime to worry about.

Amazingly, these happy times appear still to be with us in the world’s biggest community. Anew study by Dan Farmer, a gifted programmer, using an automated investigative program of his own called SATAN, shows that the owners of well over half of all World Wide Web sites have setup home without fitting locks to their doors.

SATAN can try out a variety of well—known hacking tricks on an Internet site without actually breaking in. Farmer has made program publicly available, amid much criticism. A person with evil intent could use it to hunt down sites that are easy to burgle.

But Farmer is very concerned about the need to alert the public to poor security and, so far, events have proved him right. SATAN has done more to alert people to the risks than cause new disorder.

So is the Net becoming more secure? Far from it. In the early days, when you visited a Website your browser simply looked at the content. Now the web is full of tiny programs that automatically download when you look at a Web page, and run on your own machine. These programs could, if their authors wished, do all kinds of nasty things to your computer.

At the same time, the Net is increasingly populated with spiders, worms, agents, and other types of automated beasts designed to penetrate the sites and seek out and classify information. All these make wonderful tools for antisocial people who want to invade weak sites and cause damage.

But let’s look on the bright side. Given the lack of locks, the Internet is surely the world's biggest (almost) crime—free society. Maybe that is because hackers are fundamentally honest. Or that there currently isn't much to steal. Or because vandalism(蓄意破坏) isn't much fun unless you have a peculiar dislike for someone.

Whatever the reason, let’s enjoy it while we can. But expect it all to change, and security to become the number one issue, when the most influential inhabitants of the Net are selling services they want to be paid for.

1. By saying “...owners of well over half of all World Wide Web sites have set up home without fitting locks to their doors” (Lines 3—4, Para. 2), the author means that________.
A.those happy times appear still to be with us
B.there simply wasn’t any crime to worry about
C.many sites are not well protected
D.hackers try out tricks on an Internet site without actually breaking in
2. SATAN, a program designed by Dan Farmer, can be used________.
A.to investigate the security of Internet sites
B.to improve the security of the Internet system
C.to prevent hackers from breaking into websites
D.to download useful programs and information
3. Farmer’s program has been criticized by the public because________.
A.it causes damage to Net browsers
B.it can break into Internet sites
C.it can be used to cause disorder on all sites
D.it can be used by people with evil intent
4. The author suggests in the last paragraph that________.
A.we should make full use of the Internet before security measures are strengthened
B.we should alert the most influential businessmen to the importance of guaranteeing quality of their services
C.influential businessmen should give priority to the improvement of Net security
D.net inhabitants should not let security measures affect their joy of surfing the Internet
