文章大意:这是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了克服自卑感的方法。

4 . Anyone in the world, big or small, fat or thin, black or white, can feel somewhat inferior (自卑的) to someone else at times during their lives.     1     But these comments are in no way based on facts. Luckily, there are lots of simple steps you can take to overcome the feeling of inferiority.

Stop wanting to be like others. Inferiority is rooted in the desire to be just like someone else. If you try to be someone else, you aren’t being true to yourself.     2     That means you take some of their traits and put them into yourself. But the important difference is that you are still you.

Try not to worry about what others think. Inferiority arises from your constant concern about what others think about you. You often find problems with yourselves based on if others find you good enough. This isn’t healthy thinking.    3     It is only your own opinions that matter.

4     People with inferiority spend too much time on that. If you do that, you will come up with a never-ending list of ways people are better than you. However, it’s not fair because everything about your life and circumstances are different — from the family you were born in, to your genetics, to your opportunities.

Build self-confidence. As you work through your inferiority, you need to start building self-confidence. Start by fixing your mental image of yourself. Inferiority is based on false ideas about oneself. Try to remind yourself that this image is false and doesn’t reflect the reality. Remove labels you have attached to yourself. Don’t think of yourself as a stupid, ugly, unsuccessful man, a failure, or anything else.     5

A.Just don’t try to be someone else.
B.But you can get inspired by people.
C.Surround yourself with positive people.
D.Stop comparing yourself to everyone else.
E.Ignore what others might think about you.
F.Avoid using them when you think about yourself.
G.They tell themselves that they aren’t good, pretty or smart enough.

5 . We all dream of reaching a certain success someday. Because of this we all are afraid of the very same thing- failure. But we should understand that we all have to experience some sort of failure in our lives. It is part of growing up and it is part of life itself. Failure doesn't have to always be seen as something negative. When you get to see failure in a different perspective, you will see that it has the power to help you get to your goal.

Don't be so hard on yourself whenever you make a mistake or fail a task. Everyone makes mistakes. Whenever you face one failure, remember to accept your fault and do something to make things right. Whenever you fail something, you just have to get up and keep trying. You will get to your goal eventually.

Every mistake is a lesson you have to learn from. As the saying goes, “If you do something wrong for the first time, it is a mistake. But if it happens again, then it becomes a choice.” Your mistakes and failure make you wiser.

With every great success, there are some failures along the way that lead to something great. Don't give up and don't be afraid to make mistakes. It is all part of the game of life.

文章大意:这是一篇夹叙夹议的文章。作者通过一个10岁孩子克服恐惧的视频,想到了自己的经历,想到了自己作为母亲应该勇于突破自己的极限,以此给孩子们树立好的榜样。

6 . I can't stop thinking about the video of a 10-ycar-old girl facing her fears at the top of a ski jump. Her fear, her courage, her joy, her pride-the whole thing has really struck a chord (触动心弦) in me. Of course, the video makes me reflect on the times when I experienced the similar feelings. I remember how in those moments every cell in my body vibrated (颤动) with life. But it also reminded me of the times I didn't choose the more risky options.

I've always been a little bit of a chicken when it comes to my physical safety but I definitely pushed myself more when I was younger. Now that I'm a mom, I feel like I have to stay safe. I worry about what my kids would do without me and that leads me to make safe choices.

But as I watch this fourth grader overcome her fears, I think about how much this experience will mean to her in the future; she'll always have this as a reference point when she comes up against something scary or difficult. She'll be able to look back on this and say, “Well, I did that and the worst part was the bad feeling at the beginning.”

I know I want that view for my 8-year-old daughter and 5-year-old son. I know I want them to take risks. Maybe not every day, maybe not ski-jumping, definitely not extreme sports, but I deeply hope that they will push themselves to their limits, facing down fear with whatever tools they can use and enjoying the great rush that comes from attempting scary things and getting to the other side of them.

So if I want that for my kids, I have to honestly look at my own relationship with risk and say that yes... I play it safe. And I have to ask myself another question: Am I doing enough? Or do I need to make some changes in-my life so that my daughter and son can be inspired to make their own brave decisions?

1. How did the author react when watching that video?
A.She felt ashamed of herself.B.She realized that sport was dangerous.
C.She thought of her own past experiences.D.She regretted taking part in some risky activities.
2. What does the underlined part in Paragraph 4 most probably refer to?
A.Making safe choices is important.B.Taking a risk isn't as scary as it seems.
C.Taking a risk can make you feel bad.D.Overcoming fears requires a long time.
3. The author most probably thinks that she should ___________.
A.let her kids play with the girl in the video.
B.certainly allow her kids to try ski-jumping.
C.use some tools to practice her kids' courage.
D.participate in more risky activities to set an example.
4. What would be the best title for the passage?
A.Pushing ourselves to our limitsB.Paying attention to kids' activities
C.Learning a kind of risky activityD.Encouraging kids to choose what they like

文章大意:本文是一篇说明文,主要介绍的是国家诗歌月的一些活动。

7 . National Poetry Month is to bring about awareness and appreciation of poetry. Some of the goals include reading poems, writing poems and helping teachers bring poetry into the classroom. Here are some activities in National Poetry Month.

Recite Poetry to a Pet

We’ve come up with some fun exercises to get you into the spirit of creative expression. You can recite poetry to a pet by changing the sound or speaking loudly and clearly enough to communicate without explanations. Doing this can not only help strengthen public speaking ability but also deepen your understanding of a particular piece.

Become a Romantic

Do you ever notice how beautiful the nature is? There are so many wonderful poems which have been inspired by the seasons, celebrating the beauty of a snowflake or the spring sunshine awakening the plants and animals. Why not become a poet yourself and share the beauty you saw in the nature with others?

Act out a Poem

Many poets find it hard to share their words because what they write about are personal subjects. But not all poetry is about emotions. Poetry is a living force that can be very powerful when it is shown both as a performance and as words on social media.

Poetry by Heart

We take pleasure in reading or hearing something that reflects what is in our minds or in our hearts. We experience relief if it expresses feelings we’ve kept bottled up. When Jack was a small boy, he was once asked to give a speech about “A Big Challenge in My Life”. To talk before the whole class, he was     1     (terrible) shy the moment he thought of so many eyes     2    (stare) at him. He had no other     3    (choose), though. First Jack was to draft the speech, which was just a piece of cake for him because he was a good writer. But the hard part     4    (lie) in his oral presentation, for it was not allowed to read from the paper. He had to give the speech     5     his memory and in front of such a big audience!

A real trial began when Jack stood on the platform with his legs trembling and his mind blank. How much time had passed by, he didn't know. His listeners were still waiting patiently and without any signs of laughing. Gradually he found himself back,     6    (give) out his speech   without much difficulty. After what seemed to be a hundred years, he found the audience applauding. He made     7    ! From then on, his fear of talking before an audience disappeared. Actually with his confidence     8    (build) up, Jack now turns out to be a great speaker. As we   know, the greater difficulty we meet on our way to     9    (success), the     10     likely we will be to achieve our goals.
