1 . You Need to Start Strength Training Today

The aging process affects the human body in many ways. One thing that happens to all of us as we age is muscle loss.     1     But others say it can start as early as age 30. The Harvard Health Publishing website notes that after age 30, you begin to lose muscle faster during your lifetime.

Experts show that we do know this: Being inactive can speed up the process. Now, the good news! Lost muscle is not gone forever. It is never too late to start strength training. But what exactly is strength training?     2

Here are a few things to note about this kind of training.

No equipment strength training. You do not have to use special exercise equipment or go to a gym to do strength training.     3     Exercises that use body weight as resistance are usually safer for beginners. They can also be easier on the body, and you can do them anywhere. Push-ups, plank poses, jumping jacks, side jumps and deep knee bends are great exercises for making muscle stronger.

4     The experts also suggest a short practice before strength training. Cold muscle is more likely to be injured than warm muscle. Walking for five to ten minutes is enough to warm up your muscle. They say it can activate your muscle.

Food.     5     The body breaks down protein into amino acids, which it uses to build muscle. So, experts say eat a little healthy protein with each meal—foods such as chicken, salmon, beans and yogurt.

A.Warm-up.
B.A muscle check.
C.You can just use your own body weight to do it.
D.Some experts say muscle loss begins around age 50.
E.Do not forget that proper diets help you build muscle.
F.Let us talk about the health benefits of strength training.
G.Simply put, it is any activity that makes one’s muscle stronger.

7 . Each year, half a million people die from brain aneurysms(动脉瘤)—when a blood vessel(血管)bursts in the brain. An aneurysm is a bulge(膨胀)in a blood vessel that can burst. If that happens in the brain, it can be deadly. For survivors, physical disabilities are often severe. They may include memory problems, loss of balance, trouble speaking and even blindness. But new technologies are increasing survival rates and reducing disabilities.

Beaumont Bacon is a survivor who makes light of her experience because she is a comedian(喜剧演员). She uses humor to make others laugh. Now she’s working on a new show. Michael Alexander is her doctor. He operated on Beaumont Bacon after her attack. “She had bleeding in the frontal area of her brain, so right above the eyes. The part that was in the brain was about maybe the size of an egg. So, that’s a fairly large bleed.”

Ms. Bacon had a better chance at survival than most people because of Dr. Alexander. He directs the Neurovascular Center in Los Angeles. The center offers new technologies that include placing a catheter(导管)into an aneurysm, then threading wires to promote blood clots(血栓). This technique reduces the chances of another burst blood vessel. “You don’t have to open up the skull(头盖骨)or open up the brain to do surgery. It’s all done from inside the blood vessels. So it reduces the amount of blood loss, and the recovery is much faster.”

For Beaumont Bacon’s recovery, the hospital worked to prevent problems commonly found in patients with a burst aneurysm. The problems include brain swelling that can shut down blood vessels. She spent a month in a coma(昏迷)—unable to communicate with doctors, friends and loved ones. But with a year of treatment, she recovered. Now, she is making people laugh.

10 . Whenever I hear a recording of John Denver singing “Sunshine on My Shoulders”, I find myself smiling, drawn to a love of the sun and the outdoors I’ve had for years as a Michigan native. Walking barefoot to the lake, playing without shirts in the sunlight, and breathing fresh air feel good. As a doctor I can tell you they are also good for your heart.

Studies have found higher rates of high blood pressure among people with the lowest sun exposure. One reason may be due to nitric oxide (一氧化氮), a gas whose function is activated when your skin is exposed to the sun’s rays. It reduces both heart attack and stroke risks. Vitamin D, which sunlight helps your body produce, is also linked to better health. So walk outdoors for 15 to 30 minutes daily.

In Japan, walking through forests to keep healthy has become a popular practice. Apparently they want to enjoy the fresh air. But research on 280 volunteers found that people had a reduced heart rate, and lower blood pressure when they walked through a forest than when they spent time in an urban area.

One of the consequences of modern society is that rarely is our body in direct contact with the ground. The earth has an electrical current. Direct contact with it may be stabilizing force for good health. Although “earthing” or “grounding” is considered alternative by mainstream medicine, research shows that the practice seems to be able to reduce heart disease risks.

So, walk around barefoot wherever possible, let your backyard grass tickle your feet, and dig your toes into sandy beaches.

1. The first paragraph is meant to ________.
A.show the author likes the song very much

A.the sun’s rays make nitric oxide work
B.sunlight can help people keep warm

A.make people popularB.help breathe in fresh air
