Melia and her father had just finished building a tree house in the backyard. Melia wanted to decorate the walls, and instead of buying things, she decided to make her own art.
Melia enjoyed making collages using a combination of photos she had taken and pieces of fabric. For her tree house, she thought she would use pictures from magazines instead. She could collect used magazines from neighbors, so the pictures would be free. And to create a collage of all her favorite things, she could add pretty leaves, and fruits of pine tree from the yard.
For several days, Melia collected bits of nature to use for the collage. She also collected magazines from the neighbors. She piled both at the front door, as her plan was to make the collage over the weekend. Oddly, though she added to the piles each day, many of the leaves were gone, and the pile of magazines was a mess.
“Dad? Mom?” Melia asked. “Have either of you been taking the supplies for my collage off the door?” “Now, why on earth would we do that?” her dad answered with a question. “I don’t know, but what I do know is that someone is spoiling my art project! It’s my mission to find out who and why!” Melia declared.
Who would want to steal this stuff? She had a plan. She cleaned up the rest of the leaves and threw the ruined magazines in the recycling bin. She started collecting old magazines again, hoping to set a trap. Even if she had to stay up all night, Melia was determined to solve the case.
Once she had collected a large pile of magazines, Melia formed several piles at the front door. She placed them close to the window so that she could catch the thief. She asked her parents if she could sleep on the sofa. “I know they’re used magazines, but I need them for my art project. I have to solve this case!”
Melia was determined to catch the thief, but she had a difficult time staying awake. Within a few hours, she nodded off. Just as the sun was rising, a slight sound awoke her.

Whether you think tie-dye is totally stylish or not your style, the unique print from the 1960s is back in a major way. It’s become a hot fashion trend.
“The last several years have seen the resurgence in craftsmanship and handmade goods, popularizing the hobbies in the 1960s (weaving, tie-dyeing), but in a modern way. People would connect with these handmade objects to feel connected to nature,” Stitch Fix color expert Ryen Anderson said to Today. Online searches for “how to crumple (压皱) tie-dye”, a popular technique, are u by 376 percent on Pinterest.
This homestyle creation can easily be made at home. The only things we need to prepare include fabric. light-colored clothes, dye, rubber, and water. In tie-dye, the fabric is colored by tying several parts of the fabric before dying to give certain color effects. While this seems relatively simple, it takes multiple steps and washes.
Some people make tie-dye adjust old-fabrics in an innovative way. Some others use tie-dye technique to create a new pattern as the color of their clothes fades. The typical current trend is that people use natural coloring for tie-dye and combine it with doodles (涂鸦) and natural printing ( eco-printing) by abstracting colors from the leaves.
The dyeing technique has deep roots from Africa. Many immigrants from various African countries brought their skills to the United States during the 1700s to 1800s. The popularity of tie-dye then was quite influential in the 1960s or commonly referred to as “flower power” generation. Tie-dye became a symbol in that times.

9 . Never Let Me Go is a novel by British author Sir Kazuo Ishiguro. It combines science fiction, horror, and coming-of-age elements in a beautiful but cruel story, which deals with the power of friendship, the pains of growing up, and self-sacrifice in the face of a cruel situation.
The book centers on Tommy, Ruth, and Kathy, who tells the story. It describes their childhood at a strange boarding school called Hailsham House, where the children all have excellent medical care but a very low quality of life. The students and teachers also act very strangely. A frightening reality is revealed: The students are all “donors”—clones of other people—who were created to donate their organs once they grow up.
The novel Never Let Me Go is not the only one by Sir Kazuo Ishiguro. He has also written six other novels, a number of short stories, four screenplays, and a handful of song lyrics. His moving words are highly regarded by both readers and critics. He has been nominated (提名) for the well-known Man Booker Prize four times, and he won in 1989 with his novel, The Remains of the Day. In 2017, he won the Nobel Prize in Literature.
Though Ishiguro has written screenplays, he was not the one who adapted Never Let Me Go into a film. The film version was released in 2010 and still stayed true to the novel. Carey Mulligan, Keira Knightley, and Andrew Garfield played Kathy, Ruth, and Tommy. I was on the whole a success with critics and was well-liked at film festivals around the world. The movie version, however, could not live up to the book in the end. Although audiences generally praised the movie and the actors’ performances, the film version did not reach the same level of success as the novel.
