文章大意:这是一篇说明文,文章主要讲述了如何解决父母和孩子之间的冲突。

1 . Conflict (冲突) between parents and children is normal. It is part of family life. But conflict that goes on for a long time and gets worse over time can cause stress and can hurt relationships. It is important to communicate with each other and bring conflict to a peaceful solution. You can do this through compromise (让步) or by agreeing to disagree. No matter what else you do, communicate with your children and make sure they know that you love them. This can make dealing with conflict easier and more effective.

In some cases, you may have to change your behaviour to settle a conflict with your child. Some of your child’s behaviour may be a reaction to your behaviour. So, if you want your child to behave in a certain way, one way may be to change your behaviour so that your child will follow your model.

But children should be responsible for their own actions — and the results. All parents want to protect their children. But in some cases, unless the child is in physical danger, it may be best to let the child deal with the negative results of things they do.

Collaborate (合作) to develop specific rules and write them down. These may include statements such as how much time they can spend on electronics, and when homework must be completed. Not only are you modeling for your kids how to work together and resolve differences, but you also are working out important guidelines for how your house will operate.

Have clear results for misconduct. Thus, if your child disobey the rules, make it clear that the right to use the toy will be taken away because of his inability to play with it responsibly. Additionally, create routines so that they know when they have free time to themselves after they have completed tasks set out for them. These could include helping feed the family pet, taking a shower, or finishing homework.

1. What’s the key to solving the conflict between parents and children?
A.Advising children to give in.B.Changing behavior.
C.Reaching an understanding.D.Developing rules.
2. Why do parents need to change their behavior first in the conflict?
A.To compromise with their children.
B.To be responsible for their actions.
C.To find a reason to punish children.
D.To set a good example for children.
3. What should parents do if the child causes something bad to happen?
A.Teach him how to solve it.
B.Handle the situation for him.
C.Let him deal with it himself.
D.Share the solutions with him.
4. What does the underlined word “misconduct” in Paragraph 5 mean?
A.Improper behavior.B.Strict rules.

文章大意:这是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了世界上第一只克隆的野生动物狼的相关情况,以及其带来的影响。

5 . A Beijing-based gene firm on Monday announced the debut (首次亮相) of the world’s first, cloned wild article wolf via video. 100 days after its birth in a Beijing lab. Experts said its birth pioneers the breeding of more rare and endangered animals through cloning technology.

“To save the endangered animal, we started the research cooperation with Harbin Polarland on cloning the arctic wolf in 2020. After two years of painstaking efforts, the arctic wolf was cloned successfully. It is the first case of its kind in the world,” Mi Jidong, the company’s general manager of the Beijing-based Sinogene Biotechnology Co., said at a press conference in Beijing.

Born on June 10, the wolf, named Maya, is in very good health. Its donor cell came from the skin sample of a wild female arctic wolf, which had been introduced from Canada to Harbin Polarland. The cloning of the arctic wolf was accomplished by constructing 137 new embryos (胚胎), followed by the transfer of 85 embryos to the uteri of seven dogs, of which one was born as a healthy wolf-Maya, Zhao noted. The selection of a dog as Maya’s surrogate (代孕) was made because dogs share genetic ancestry with ancient wolves and it’s more likely to succeed through cloning technology, experts said.

He Zhengming, the head of Chinese Experimental Animal Resources Research Institute for Food and Drug Control, said that the cloned animals still have the ability to reproduce if they have intact fertilized eggs. The cloning technology can copy all genetic information for selective breeding, and in this way, it diversifies the population of endangered animals.

From the world’s first mammal clone “Dolly”, cloning technology has provided the possibility to diversify the populations of some species such as cattle, pigs and horses. When endangered species in some places are identified, cloning of cells preserved from freezing technologies could also generate new life, experts said.

However, some raised controversy relating to the cloned arctic wolf. Sun Ouanhui, a scientist from the World Animal Protection organization, insisted that cloning technology has made great progress since its birth, but it is still being perfected and in the exploratory stage of research, and there are many technical and ethical issues that need to be tackled and treated with caution.

1. What is the significance of the first cloned wild arctic wolf’s birth?
A.To produce more endangered species through cloning.
B.To help the scientists win an award.
C.To promote the research cooperation.
D.To increase the profit of wildlife reserves.
2. What can be inferred from Paragraph 3?
A.Maya is the first cloned arctic wolf in the world.
B.Wild arctic wolves are easily available in Harbin Polarland.
C.There is no scientific support for choosing a dog as Maya’s surrogate.
D.Researchers experienced trial and error to achieve the successful birth of Maya.
3. What’s the author’s attitude toward cloning technology?
A.Doubtful.B.Favorable.C.Objective.D.Opposed.
4. Which is the best title of the passage?
A.The Research on the Rare and Endangered Animals
B.The Debut of the World’s 1st Cloned Wild Arctic Wolf
C.The Beginning of the Cloning Technology Application
D.The Conservation of Endangered Wildlife through Cloning Technology

6 . Can everything be recycled? No, not all things can be recycled. But you might be surprised to learn how many things can be recycled. You may already know about plastic bottles. Did you know you can also recycle glass?

Glass can be recycled to make all sorts of things. Recycling glass really helps the planet. Making new products from recycled glass causes less air and water pollution. It also uses less energy than making new glass.

When glass arrives at a recycling plant, people and machines sort it by color. Similar colors of glass must be recycled together. That way, recycled products are as pure as possible. This makes them stronger and less likely to break. Once the glass is sorted, it's washed. That's when the breaking begins. That's right! To be recycled, glass has to be broken to make a material called cullet(碎玻璃).

Glass manufacturers love cullet. It's cheaper than the raw materials they'd need to make new glass. It also melts at a lower temperature. That means they save energy during the production process. Glass manufacturers mix cullet with other materials like sand and soda ash. Then they heat it to over 2,600℉. This makes liquid glass, which can then be poured into a mold (模具). There, it cools and forms a finished glass product.

Most recycled glass is used to make new glass containers, such as jars and bottles. However, recycled glass can also find its way into all sorts of other products including a variety of construction products.

Do you recycle at home or school? What glass products should you be sure to recycle when you’ re done with them? With everyone doing their part, recycling glass can make a huge difference to the planet!

1. What is the first step in recycling glass?
A.Sorting it according to color.B.Cleaning it with water.
C.Removing the color in it.D.Breaking it into cullet.
2. Why do glass manufacturers love cullet?
A.It is easy to get.B.It helps cut costs.
C.It can be easily broken.D.It can be mixed with other materials.
3. Why does the author ask the questions in the last paragraph?
A.To call attention to home or school environment.
B.To help readers classify glass products at home.
C.To encourage glass recycling among readers.
D.To encourage readers to use fewer glass products.
4. What is the best title for the text?
A.Recyclable things that you might have ignored.

7 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

I was excited as I walked into the classroom. Today was my birthday! I set down the box of treats I had brought for the class. Birthdays were a big deal in our classroom. The birthday person brought treats for the class, and he or she got to choose someone our teacher called “the birthday helper" to pass them out. My friends, Andrea, Crystal and I had talked about choosing each other on our birthdays. I still hadn't decided which of my two best friends I was going to choose. I knew both of them were expecting me to pick them, but I just couldn't decide. I didn't want either one of them to be mad at me.

A loud shout stopped my thoughts. “Hi, April!" shouted Lisa.

No one liked Lisa. She had dirty hair that looked like it always needed to be washed. The kids made fun of her a lot. She annoyed me sometimes, too, but I tried to be nice to her.

"Did you bring treats today?"

“Yes," I answered.“ Today is my birthday!"

Lisa's parents were divorced(离婚的),and her dad gave her and her mom lots of problems. Lisa once told me that I was the only friend she had. At times I felt embarrassed to hang out with her, but she never seemed to notice when I didn't want her around.

The bell rang, and we quickly went to our seats. Our teacher, Mrs. Doughty, started class, and I pushed aside my thoughts. The rest of the morning flew by, and soon it was time for the lunch break.

Mrs. Doughty announced that today was my birthday. I forced a smile, but my stomach turned over. I retrieved(取回) my cupcakes at the back of the room and slowly went to stand beside Mrs. Doughty. I didn't know what to do! Should I choose Andrea or Crystal?

Then Lisa caught my attention.

“No one ever chooses me on their birthday!" she said loudly. Her face looked so sad. I saw the hurt she felt from the rejection(嫌弃) she constantly faced from our classmates.
