文章大意:这是一篇记叙文。作者年少时立志长大帮助遭受痛苦的孩子们。长大作者兑现诺言做慈善工作,并号召人们:做力所能及的事来帮助周围的人。

2 . When I was five or six years old, I remember watching TV and seeing other children suffer in other parts of the world. I would say to myself, “When I grow up, when I can get rich, I will save kids all over the world.”

At 17, I started my career here in America, and at the age of 18, I started my first charity organization. I went on to team up with other organizations in the following years, and met, helped, and even lost some of the most beautiful souls, from six-year-old Jasmina Anema who passed away in 2010 from leukemia(白血病), and whose story inspired thousands to volunteer as donors, to my grandmother who lost her battle against cancer in 2012. And her death is the very reason and the driving force behind the Clara Lionel Foundation(CLF). We’re all humans. And we all just want a chance: a chance of life, a chance of education, a chance of a future, really. And at the CLF, our mission is to impact as many lives as possible, but it starts with just one.

People make it seem too hard to do charity work. The truth is that you don’t have to be rich to help others. You don’t need to be famous. You don’t even have to be college-educated. But it can start with your neighbor, the person right next to you, the person sitting next to you in class, and the kid down the block in your neighborhood. You just do whatever you can to help in any way that you can. And today, I want to challenge each of you to make a decision to help one person, one organization, one situation that touches your heart. My grandmother used to say, “If you’ve got a dollar, there’s plenty to share.”

1. What did the author want to do at a young age?
A.Watch TV.B.Help other children.
C.Become wealthy.D.Grow up quickly.
2. What directly caused the author to create and develop the CLF?
A.A six-year-old kid’s request.B.Many volunteers inspiration.
C.Her grandmother’s death of cancer.D.Other organizations’ encouragement.
3. What does the underlined word “one” in Paragraph 2 refer to?
A.A chance.B.A life.
C.A task.D.An organization.
4. What does the author suggest people do in the last paragraph?
A.Challenge their friends to offer help.
B.Work hard to get a college education.
C.Do little things to help those around them.
D.Share everything they have.

3 . How Can I Fight Laziness?

Lazy people will never gain anything in life. However, laziness can be defeated once a few changes have been made in your mind.

1    Many people lack sleep constantly, since they stay up too late and get up too early to prepare for work. These people have little motivation once they arrive home. Laziness works hand in hand with a lack of motivation and a tendency to put off things. By adjusting your sleep schedule to provide a few more hours of meaningful rest, you can fight laziness throughout the day.

Another way to fight laziness is to change your mind from passive to active. Some people treat their lives as if they were pushed from task to task. Others take a more positive approach, viewing each task as a challenge they must overcome alone.     2

Some people fight laziness removing the temptations that surround them. A television in the living room may provide entertainment, but watching too much TV often contributes to laziness.     3    Complete a few tasks and reward yourself with what you enjoy, such as a good dinner or a film.

Laziness can also be a lasting problem at home. Couples and children may all have different energy levels, but laziness can be spread if not deal with immediately.     4     Be the first to collect and wash dishes after a meal. Others in the home may eventually follow your example and perform their own task. It is difficult to practice laziness when you are surrounded by motivated people.

5     Enough exercise and a balanced diet can help you to develop a healthy lifestyle, thus enabling you to have more energy and help lift your spirits.

A.To fight family laziness, set an example.
B.Knowing how to fight laziness is important.
C.One way to fight laziness is to get enough sleep.
D.Finally, taking exercise regularly can help you fight laziness.
E.With strong determination, you will be able to achieve your goal.
F.Create a reward system for yourself, just as parents do for a child.
G.Laziness appears when you no longer feel in charge of your own mind.

4 . Sharon, Aged 22

The most important thing to keep in mind when going into high school is to be yourself. Besides, I don’t know what your middle school was like, but high school teachers will not care about things such as how much homework you already have in one night. It’s best to just learn to deal with things and manage your time wisely so you can achieve everything you need.

Frank, Aged 21

I think almost every kid feels both nervous and excited before their first day. You will probably love it. I know I did. You should join in some sports or activities that will make your high school experience more enjoyable. Good luck!

Eddie, Aged 20

When I started high school I was really nervous too, especially since I had been home-schooled all through middle school and didn’t really know anyone, I suppose the best advice would be to just relax. The first couple of days can be a little bit hard, but things will become easier after you know it.

David, Aged 19

I’m not going to lie. The first day is kind of frightening. But you’ll get used to it. Don’t be afraid of anyone; upperclassmen will pick on you more if you let them know you’re afraid. Just take it easy. Making some friends and staying with them will greatly help you get used to high school quickly. After the first week it’s really not bad at all. Don’t worry.

1. What can we infer from Sharon about high school?
A.Teachers are quite strict.
B.Students often stay up at night.
C.Teachers provide little care for students.
D.Students should make good use of their time.
2. How did Eddie feel on his first day of high school?
A.ExcitedB.Bored.C.Worried.D.Relaxed.

文章大意:本文是一篇说明文。本文作者针对如何正确开始每一天这一问题,给出了自己的四条建议。

5 . We achieve our goals one step at a time, doing a little each day. So, starting your day on the right foot is most important.     1

■ Get up an hour early.

People who get up early in the morning have a jump on the day. In American English, we like to say, “The early bird gets the worm.”     2     This expression means that people who rise up early have a head start and, therefore, are more likely to succeed.

■ Don’t answer e-mail or jump into social media as soon as you get up.

We’ve all done it. You see a Facebook post from a friend you haven’t seen for a long time. He is angry about some political issue and the heated discussion pulls you in.     3     You hurry out the door so as not to be late for work. This is not the best way to start your day.

■ Exercise.

Physical fitness experts and trainers often suggest some form of exercise in the morning because the middle of the day is a busy time for most people. By the day’s end, you may not have the time or energy to exercise.     4

■ Think about your day at night.

Take time at the end of the day to think back on all the things that have happened.     5     It may help you to prepare if you take a few minutes to think about what you need to do the next day.

A.Before you know it, an hour has passed.
B.Here, if you’re a bird, the worm is the reward.
C.And spend a little time to think about tomorrow.
D.Here are four ideas on how to start your day off right.
E.Avoid jumping into social media as soon as you get up.
F.Exercising in the morning prevents that from happening.
G.In fact, the morning may be the most productive part of your day.
