These days, we still need to wear masks because of COVID-19 when we go to some places like hospitals and supermarkets. It becomes a rule. We use lots of masks every day. But do you know a lot of them may end up on the streets, in the parks, or even in the rivers?     1     这对我们的环境是有害的。

A company in Cornwall, Britain came up with a good idea to solve the problem.

    2     他们能把用过的口罩变成有用的东西。 First, they collect used masks. Then, they remove the straps and wires.     3     After that, they put masks into a special machine. The masks turn into big blocks. At last, they break these blocks into small pieces and make litter pickers (捡拾器) with the pieces.     4     It is said that every 45 masks can make one litter picker.

Now in Cornwall, over 300 schools get these litter pickers.     5     Students can use them to help clean up their streets and parks. “The picker is made from masks. Now I can pick up a used mask with it. I think it’s really cool,” says a schoolgirl.

To fully realize your potential, it is important for you to make the most of the school resources, such as taking advantage of your classes, learning from your teachers and classmates,    1     要善用学校的各种设施, joining school clubs and taking an active part in different sports.

I am worried about China’s car problems. More cars are now available, and     1     我们道路上的车子比以前更多了。There will be 140 million cars on our roads by the year 2020. That’s almost seven times the number of cars on our roads now. The increase in the number of new cars has already blocked roads.     2     Pollution is already a major problem and it will get much worse.     3     The sky is often a yellow-brown color in big cities. There are more road accidents in China than other countries.    4     Traffic problems and road accidents will get much worse in the future.

Cars can be very useful, but they also cause a lot of damage.     5    我认为人们在买车前有必要三思而后行。I also think more should be done about our country’s car problems.

I am doing fine here at university and     1     我已交了几个好朋友 I want to tell you about them.

My room-mate, Wu bang, is from Da lian.     2     We get along very well because he is so easy-going. We stay up at night and talk about many things. We have interesting conversations.

I have also made friends with my classmate Li Xing, whose family is in Nanjing, just like ours. When we first met, I thought Li Xing was quite shy because he didn't say much.     3    但实际上他是一个友好而又诚实的人. We often study together and he helps me with math. I am happy to have such a hard-working classmate.

Another friend I want to tell you about is Zhao Ji.     4     He is very humorous and loves telling jokes. He is training to be an athlete on the national team. I have no doubt he will succeed.

Please don’t worry about me. I am happy here and studying hard.     5     The professors are strict, but they are kind. I like my university very much.
