I, a senior high student,     1     (好奇世界的一切). I am outgoing, confident and never     2     (frighten) of failure. I work hard and you can always     3     (全神贯注听讲座). Additionally, so good at English am I that I have successfully organised several English parties,     4     (给我的老师和同学们留下了深刻的印象). At last, I am independent, so my parents do not need to be anxious for me.

    1     (我看到了大卫，他非常沮丧). Seeing me, he held my hands tightly, whimpering, “Our school's coach has     2     (要求我决定是否参加这次越野赛). I am afraid that the kids from other schools will     3     (对我评头论足).” Although a brain disease prevented him from walking or running like other children, his classmates viewed him as a regular kid and     4     (钦佩他令人惊奇的意志力). Last Sunday witnessed a 5 km cross­country running race     1     (host) by our school, which both students and teachers of our school     2     (我校师生都参加了对金牌的角逐).

Three months later, I did a second survey, which showed great improvements in self­discipline.

Tom rushed out the door, along the corridor, through the smoke to fetch water to put out the fire.     4     (不幸的是), all his belongings in the flat were totally destroyed. Half an hour later, the firefighters arrived. All the people breathed a sigh of relief. To be honest, the fire     5     (给他的生活蒙上了一层阴影).

Jimmy’s bar     1     (挤满了) people. Suddenly, a woman claimed her wallet was lost,     2     (里面是她最重要的物品) — a wedding ring. She was     3     (陷入了绝望). Jimmy searched cameras. A boy named Oliver was recognized. Jimmy leaned back in his chair, lost in thought. It’s time to do something, he thought. Finally he found Oliver and asked     4     (伸出手),   “Would you like to work in my bar?”   The boy widened his eyes, surprise written over his face. “Yes, Jimmy! I will work as hard     5     (像你期望的那样). And... sorry for taking the wallet,” Oliver responded with his head lowered.

One midnight, we heard Spotty barking suddenly. We came out only to see two men trying to get into our yard. “Robbery,” cried my mother, “Call the police immediately!” It was then that Spotty     1     (不再蹲在地上), but jumped up and attacked the robbers fiercely. One robber screamed in pain and     2     (把Spotty扔到了铁丝网上), while the other robber killed it with a knife. And just then, the police came and the two men got caught. Rooted to the spot, I felt like I     3     (漂浮在悲伤的海洋中). We are grateful for what Spotty did and Spotty is a hero in our memory forever.
