It’s a tough animal that has to survive in a difficult environment. Also, it cannot walk backwards, so it is always moving forward. This expresses the     1     of the Australians as individuals and as a nation. Baby kangaroos weigh only two grammes at birth. They then     2     their mother’s pouch-a kind of pocket-to stay safe and warm. They sleep and drink milk. . until they are about seven or eight months old.     3    , they go out to try their legs. After they to jump, they gradually spend less time with their mother and learnt to be independent. Kangaroo may look cute, but     4     don’t always end so well. Kangaroos can hit and kick very hard, so please folks, if you see some kangaroos, remember they’re not for petting!

Jo has been dying to get a p    1    from home because she has been in the s    2    school with clay floor and roofs of grass for a month. When she reaches the school ground, she is greeted by a     3     of “good morning” from the students. Science is the most challenging subject as students     4     of doing experiment. The other day, Jo was showing the boys the chemistry experiment when the mixture was bubbling over everywhere and the boys started jumping out of the windows. Sometimes she wonders how r    5    the chemistry is to these students—few will ever become chemists.

Last weekend, Jo and Jenny visited Tombe’s home, a low, round bamboo hut with grass     6     (stick) out of the roof, where they could only see a few     7    , including one broom, a few saucers, a kettle, cups and a couple of jars. For dinner, they 1    8    stones on fire to heat and placed the hot stones with ingredients to steam. They used a can standing u    9    on the grill over the fire to dry out the leftover food in case leftovers attracted bad spirits. It was such a p    10    to have spent a day with Tombe’s family.
