Today I want to relay to you that I’m proud of the work my mother has done, and I am now     1     of it. Is her work worth it? Yes, to the lives of the people she is helping, it is worth it. But by any     2     this work is worth it to us as well, because it shows that we are global citizens interested in world     3    , and that we feel responsible for others and are ready to build a community with a     4     future for mankind. Everyone deserves a fair chance in life. When I think of all the things that we as Chinese citizens can be most proud of, helping others     5     at the top of this list. Now that I understand     6     important my mother’s work is, I’ve decided to become a volunteer myself to help people in other lands. In the future, I     7     that you will do the same.

Today, many Chinese people are becoming more interested in reading poems, no matter in     1    language they are written. Translations can be good, but being able to read in the original language is best. No matter how well a poem is translated, something of the spirit of the original work is     2    . Besides, poems and literature can be bridges between East and West. They can help us to understand each other better, or as the poet Mu Dan     3     :

The twenty-two of us lived like this in the cold for four months. Our     1    and team spirit kept us     2    and helped us deal with our fears in a positive and successful way. We also celebrated our birthdays, festivals, and even the times     3    we caught a sea animal. This was    4    episode in my life that I would never forget.

When we were finally rescued, we felt such     5    and joy that many of us could not     6    our tears. We were at last free to go home to warm beds, good food, and the care of our family and friends. Our optimism and faith in Shackleton had helped us     7    in staying alive. And he paid us     8    by his commitment     9     save us from a slow but painful death.
