There is going to be an online Chinese-story-writing Competition organized by our school.

Ms Gao Qian is going to give us a speech on 20 July.     1     She once lived in Australia and has travelled around the world. She is friendly and outgoing.     2     She knows China and the Chinese culture quite well, and she also knows about the world.

    3     高倩女士擅长汉语和英语。 She graduated from Peking University in 2004. After graduation, she worked as an English teacher in a college for four years.     4     In 2008, she started a school to help poor children to go to university.

Ms. Gao Qian likes travelling and has been to different parts of the world. She will talk about some foreign customs, as many students are very interested in them.     5     我们期待她的到来。

Bees live in a well-organized society. They have a highly developed language     1     is different from those of other animals. They     2     (normal) pass important messages to each other about where     3     (find) food.

A searcher bee goes out looking     4     new food supplies. She returns home and     5    (give) her information to the worker bees there. 6 . How to Improve Your Focus

Studying is a skill you can improve, just like any other. In fact, your focus plays the most important role in it. Here are some effective ways to improve your focus.

Make sure the TV and radio are off. Turn your phone on silent. If you don’t need the Internet for your studying, turn your WiFi off so you won’t get distracted (分心).

Study one subject at a time instead of multi-tasking

Studies have shown that multi-tasking is not only ineffective but also stressful. You can get much more fun out of a task if you focus on it and do a good job.

Reading to study isn’t like reading a novel for fun. You have to make sure you are actively focusing on and remembering the information. As you read the material, ask yourself about what you’ve just read to check your comprehension (理解力). Take notes by writing down the chapter headings and then make a few bullet points for each one with key information.

Take an active break at least every hour.

After an hour of sitting and studying, get up and take a little break. Try to make the break last about 10 minutes so that you can go back to studying better.

Sleep is the best ingredient (要素) to help you focus. Staying up late studying on school nights is not a good idea for long-term success. Lack of sleep prevents you from focusing and reduces your ability to remember what you have learned.

7 . Previously, the most readily available invisible ink was lemon juice. To use it, write with the lemon juice on ordinary paper, iron the paper with a hot iron and the hidden message will appear. The disadvantage is that the paper has to be destroyed to hide the message so no one else can read it.

Scientists have discovered a new kind of invisible ink. It is called water. All you need for this secret-messaging ink to work is to write with it on a super-hi-tech piece of paper coated with special chemicals. Shine a UV light on the coated paper and the water message becomes visible.

When the message has been read and needs to be hidden again, get out your hairdryer, and blow some warm air on the paper. Then the message will be erased and the paper can be reused, which keeps costs low.

The chemicals on the paper take in and give off light. The scientists found that putting water on the paper broke up the structure of the chemicals it was coated with. The water writing showed up darker than the surrounding paper under UV light.

Using hot air from a hairdryer for 15-30 seconds, you were able to reuse the special paper as many as 30 times because the heat reorganized the chemical structure of the paper coating. Without the heat from a hairdryer, the message stayed visible for up to three months.

The invention was made by a group of scientists in China, led by Qiang Zhao of the Institute of Advanced Materials, Nanjing University of Posts and Telecommunications.
