1 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落的开头语续写两段话,使之构成一个完整的故事。

I will share the kind act that I met with all of you. We had dozens of restaurant options within a short distance, so we often took advantage of this luxury. On one occasion, I ran out to get some food. I saw the clouds in the distance and decided I could make it there and come back in time, but I was wrong. I was about to leave the restaurant when the rain just poured. The street was flooded within minutes.

But I had my little girl and husband waiting for me back at home, and they were hungry, so I knew I had to make a run for it. The owner of the restaurant tried to encourage me to wait inside, but I insisted that I should go. At this point, he grabbed his umbrella and said, “Okay, let’s go.” Of course I tried to convince him that it wasn’t necessary for him to walk me home, but I knew I wouldn’t prevent him from doing so. So off we went. We quickly realized that the umbrella wouldn’t help much in keeping us dry. He walked me all the way to my apartment building, where he said goodbye and ran back to the restaurant.

Again I encountered this act of kindness when I was making my way to the bus. As I waited at the crosswalk (人行道), it began to rain lightly. Nothing was too bad, but a young guy nearby felt like it was heavy enough to make him step next to me and hold his umbrella above both of us. After a while, the lights turned green. I thanked him and walked across the street.

Getting around the city when you are six months pregnant (怀孕的) and have a two-year-old kid can be challenging sometimes. One spring afternoon, I realized I needed something from the store to finish preparing for dinner. The weather seemed a bit questionable but the store was around the corner so I decided to risk it.

注意:1. 续写词数应为 150 左右;

2. 续写部分分为两段,每段的开头语已为你写好。

文章大意:这是一篇说明文。文章主要说明了研究发现习得性恐惧可以遗传给老鼠的后代,这表明恐惧的起源是遗传的,而不是社会的。

6 . It was previously assumed that all irrational fears are learned through personal experience or taught to us by others. If somebody nearly drowns while swimming in these a, for instance, it wouldn’t be surprising if they develop aqua phobia (恐水症), the fear of water. The brain makes a connection between the situation and the feeling of pain and panic, and commits it to memory.

However, it is now thought that some phobias have a genetic origin. Experiments with mice have shown that fears they develop can be passed down to their children and even their grandchildren. The mice were conditioned to fear the scent of acetophenone-a sweet-smelling chemical. Researchers found that the pups, and even the grand-pups, of the conditioned mice were startled by the scent too.

One explanation for this could be that parent mice communicate with their pups to effectively teach them what to fear. Studies have found that when mice are scared, they release pheromones that act as an alarm signal to other mice. However, in the acetophenone experiment, the pups proved to be sensitive to the scent from the very first time they encountered it. What’s more, some le pups; of conditioned mice were fostered by non-conditioned mice. The non-conditioned foster parents were not a fad of the scent, but the pups were, suggesting the fears origin was genetic rather than social.

It is not clear exactly how the conditioned fear is passed on to future generations of mice, but the current theory is that it is down to something called epigenetic inheritance (表观遗传). The original conditioning process leads to chemical modifications that change gene expression, without changing the DNA sequence itself. The researchers found that he conditioned mice and their offspring developed more scent receptors in their brains compared to non-conditioned mice. With more of these receptors they can detect the presence of acetophenone at lower concentrations and so are alerted to it more easily.

Epigenetics is a relatively new area of research, but it stands to reason that fears and other memories may well be inherited this way in humans too.

1. What does the underlined word “conditioned” in paragraph 2 refer to?
A.TrainedB.Inherited.C.Displayed.D.Evolved
2. What can we learn from the acetophenone experiment?
A.The scent of acetophenone is inherently frightening to mice.
B.Parental behavior has no influence on the fears of offspring in mice.
C.Learned fears can be genetically transmitted across generations in mice.
D.Pups of conditioned mice are unable to adapt to the scent of acetophenone.
3. How may the conditioned fear be passed on to future generations of mice?
A.By altering the DNA sequence.B.Through changes in gene expression.
C.Through social learning from parent mice.D.By increasing the number of scent receptors.
4. Which is the most suitable title for the text?
A.Aqua phobia: A Case Study on Learned Fears
B.Pheromones: The Communication of Fear in Mice
C.The Genetics of Fear: Epigenetic Inheritance in Mice
D.Phobia Development: The Role of Personal Experience

7 . Authorities have moved to tighten oversight of the rapidly expanding semi-prepared food industry, ironing out definitions of precooked dishes and rolling out rules on the use of additives in the sector to ensure food safety. Restaurants are also being encouraged to identify dishes on their menus that include semi-prepared ingredients, a move that experts say will help customers make informed decisions.

The reforms, led by the State Administration for Market Regulation, which oversees product quality and consumer rights, were outlined in a circular issued on Thursday by six government agencies.

Share (股票) prices of companies involved in the semi prepared food sector fell by an average of 2 percent on the A-share market on Monday because of the strengthened oversight Industry insiders said the rules were the first to clarify the definition of semi-prepared food and set out safety and quality standards for the multibillion yuan industry.

China has more than 70, 000 companies making food items that have undergone some preparation but are not fully cooked or ready to eat, according to Xinhua News Agency. Their output value topped 500 billion yuan ($69.4 million) last year and is on track to surpass 1 trillion yuan in a few years, it said.

The new rules differentiate between semi-prepared food-also known as prepackaged meals — and other food items, such as instant noodles, frozen dumplings and salads. They say semi-prepared food must be a dish that can be consumed after simple preparations such as heating or boiling.

Experts said makers of frozen foods such as dumplings and hamburgers will no longer be regarded as being semi-prepared food businesses, and will be unable to ignore regulations in their own sector or enjoy preferential policies tailor-made for semi-prepared food makers. They said the generalization of the concept of semi prepared food had previously created regulatory difficulties.

1. Why is it necessary to oversee the semi-prepared food industry?
A.To raise people’s awareness of food safety concerns.
B.To ban the use of semi-prepared prepared ingredients.
C.To guarantee food safety through strengthened regulations.
D.To encourage restaurants to identify dishes on their menus.
2. What is the third paragraph mainly about?
A.Rules aiming to define semi-prepared food.

4. What is the expert’s attitude towards the regulatory reforms?
A.Ambiguous.B.Positive.C.Objective.D.Indifferent.

Chilis (辣椒) weren’t always in China, says Brian Dott, a history professor at Whitman College and author of The Chile Pepper in China: A Cultural Biography.    1     (originate) in Central and South America, Capsicum plants were unknown in China until around the 16th Century, when a boom in     2     (explore) and trade brought chilis to the Chinese mainland.

The first     3     (write) record of chili in China    4     (date) from 1591 and it isn’t exactly a flood of positive reviews. Gao Lian, a playwright who lived near    5    is now Shanghai, wasn’t “all that excited about it as a condiment (调味品) or a medicine,” Dott says of his account. Instead, he used it as a decorative plant.

But while elite Chinese enjoyed chili peppers in their decorative gardens, the masses began eating and enjoying the hot plants. By 1765, local historians noted that chi is were used    6     (flavor) sauces, vinegar, savory oils, and preserved vegetables in Hunan. There’s even a recipe for a condiment reminding people of chili crisp in The Harmonious Cauldron, the    7     (early) Chinese culinary book to include chili peppers.

8     (like) other spices, chili peppers weren’t farmed and traded as commodities. Instead, they    9     (pass) from person to person and cultivated in small crops, says Dott, falling into the hands of skilled farmers who bred even better chilis overtime. These peppers—and the condiment made by frying them in oil—became must-have ingredients all over China, eventually filtering (渗透) to every level of society and becoming so universal    10    they were considered part of the nation’s identity.

10 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

Once upon a time, there lived a poor but cheerful shoemaker. He was so happy that he sang all day long. The children loved to stand around his window to listen to him.

Next door to the shoemaker lived a rich man. He used to sit up all night to count his gold. In the morning, he went to bed, but he could not sleep because of the sound of the shoemaker’s singing. One day, he thought of a way to stop the singing. He wrote a letter to the shoemaker inviting him over for a cup of tea.

The shoemaker came at once, and to his great surprise, the rich man gave him a bag of gold as a gift. The shoemaker took the bag and thanked the rich man. When he returned home, the shoemaker couldn’t wait to open the bag. He had never seen so much gold in his life! He sat down at his bench and began, carefully, to count it. The children watched through the window.

There was so much there that the shoemaker was afraid to let it out of his sight. So he took it to bed with him. But he could not sleep for worrying about it. So he got out of bed and went to hide it in the attic (阁楼), but he was not sure if that was a good place.

Very early in the morning, he got up and brought his gold down from the attic. He had decided to hide it up the chimney (烟囱) instead. But after breakfast, he thought it would be safer in the chicken house. So he hid it there. But he was still uneasy, and in a little while he dug a hole in the garden and buried his bag of gold in it.
