文章大意:本文是一篇记叙文。文章主要讲述了作者从商业咨询师转型为酿酒师的经历。作者在年轻时受到父亲的反对,但最终实现了自己的梦想,并创建了自己的酿酒公司。

3 . When I was a teenager, my dad did everything he could to discourage me from becoming a brewer (酿酒师). He’d spent his life in local breweries, _________ making a living, as had his father and grandfather before him.

So I did as he asked. I went to business school and got a highly paid job at a business- consulting firm. _________, after working there for five years, I was haunted by _________. Is this what I want to be doing when I’m 50?

I remembered that some time before, my dad had been cleaning out the attic and _________ some old beers _________ . “Today’s beer is _________ water that can hold a head,” he’d told me.

I agreed. Americans pay good money for inferior beer, I thought. Why not make good beer for Americans using my family way?

I decided to quit my job to become a brewer. When I told Dad, I was hoping he’d put his arm around me and get _________ about continuing tradition. Instead, he said, “Jim, that is the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard!”

As much as Dad objected, in the end he became my new company’s first _________, coughing up (支付) $40,000 when I opened the Boston Beer Company in 1984. Going from my fancy office to being a brewer was like mountain climbing: exciting, liberating and _________.All my safety nets were gone.

Once the beer was made, I faced my biggest __________ yet: no one had ever heard of it. I needed a name that was __________ and elegant, so I named my beer __________ Samuel Adams, a brewer and patriot (爱国者) who helped to found the Boston Tea Party.

The only way to get the word out, I realized, was to sell direct. I filled my briefcase with beer and hit every bar in Boston. Six weeks later, at the Great American Beer Festival, Sam Adams Boston Lager won the top prize for American beer. The rest is history. It wasn’t supposed to work out this way — whatever does? — but in the end I was __________ to be a brewer.

My advice to all young entrepreneurs is simple: Life is very short, so don’t __________ to make decisions. Life doesn’t let you __________.

She couldn’t speak or hear, but we “talked” by writing on each other hands. When saying goodbye, she writes on my hand, “Please come here as often as possible.” Many people are concerning about disabled people and give her money. 文章大意:本文是一篇记叙文,讲述了作者作为一个外国人在北京乘坐地铁到酒店时一路上的冒险经历。

6 . After I made it to the city center, I started to feel it might be easy for a foreigner to deal with the great size of Beijing. With growing confidence, I decided to take the subway to the hotel, not realizing that the network didn’t go that far. Impressed with the cleanliness of the station, I bought a ticket and boarded the first subway that came along.

After a few minutes I asked in English a young man seated next to me where I should get off closest to the Friendship Hotel. Wearing a smart business suit and tie, he would surely speak English, wouldn’t he? Unfortunately, he couldn’t understand me but seemed very friendly. I showed him the room card with all the information of the Friendship Hotel in Chinese characters. He looked at it, and then his eyes moved quickly to the carriage (车厢) subway map. Next, he raised three fingers of his right hand.

In Australia, raising fingers at someone is not usually nice, but this man wasn’t smiling. At the next station he showed me two fingers. Now in Australia, that’s really rude, but I got the message. When we stopped at the third station, he didn’t just point to the door, but got up, took me out of the train, and led me to the top of the stairs, and out onto the street. Then he stopped a taxi and told the driver where to take me.

All this came from a man who couldn’t speak my language, and I couldn’t speak his. I was now speechless, especially when he refused my offer of money. I felt a little embarrassed having even thought he would accept a tip.

This experience made it clear I had to learn some Chinese quickly or my adventures might start turning into misadventures.

2. Having been shown the room card, the young man        .
A.still remained puzzledB.understood the author well

文章大意:这是一篇记叙文。作者介绍了自己的第一天高中生活。

7 . Finally came Wednesday! I walked onto campus feeling nervous even though I had walked on these same grounds for two years because my junior high school is next door. Everything looked and felt different now that I was in senior high.

I looked at my schedule. First period-German. Our German teacher was very friendly and I liked her from the beginning. What I didn’t like, though, was that I was surrounded by students from other grades, with only five familiar faces.

Then I had to walk all the way across campus and up three flights of stairs to get to my second period-biology. Our biology teacher is Ms Campeau, and I think that she will teach us a lot this year because she is very to the point. She also has her unique way of saying be quiet; she says“alligator”. She explained that she is the king, or should I say queen, of the class because alligators are the “king of the swamps (沼泽)”.

My third class was English. After surviving two periods without too much of a challenge, I began to feel good. However, the third period changed everything. Mr Valassidis, my English teacher, told us that we would have to write 40 essays (文章) and read AP-level books such as The 0dyssey this year. I love reading and writing, but 40ESSA YS?AP-level books? Now I was scared. He also talked about how important it was to be focused. Last year was not a very “focused” year for me. While doing homework, I was often talking on the phone, or busy with a conversation online. I planned on stepping it up this year because I wanted to stay an honours student.

1. What did the author mainly write about in this passage?
A.Her new teachers.
B.Her plan for the new year.
C.Her first day of senior high.
D.Her schedule for Wednesday.
2. What should students do when Ms Campeau says“alligator”?
A.Sit still.B.Stop talking.
C.Look at the blackboard.D.Listen carefully.
3. How did the author find her first two classes?
A.Unattractive.B.Informative.
C.Very tiring.D.Pretty easy.
4. Why did the author feel scared during the third period?
A.She couldn’t focus on her work.
B.She found the class demanding.
C.She didn’t like the teacher.
D.She did poorly at school.

But by starting to do volunteer work when I was 14, I turned my problem into a passion for helping others. The opportunity to practice kindness made me feel like my life had a greater purpose. The more positive energy I shared, the more kindness and appreciation I received. My dream career, one I thought was only possible for the authors I loved, is what I am doing now. I have been a full-time author of teen novels since 2007 and am grateful for this amazing opportunity to reach out to readers every single day.

Yesterday I met a young student, that came from the USA, in the Palace Museum. It was first time that I had met a foreigner, so I went to greet him with English. He told me that he was a college student traveling in China and he likes China very much. I offered to show him around to the museum. He was impressing by the Chinese culture and busy taking photo all the time. He said he hadn’t seen such beauty buildings before. After that, we went boating and had a good time together.
