文章大意:本文是说明文。文章主要介绍天井的功能和发展。
1 . 阅读下面短文,在空白处填入1个适当的单词或括号内单词的正确形式。

A skywell, or “tian jing” in Chinese, dating back to the Ming dynasty, is a typical feature of a traditional home in southern and eastern China. It     1    (design) to allow in light, improve ventilation (通风), and harvest rainwater. Less     2    (expose) to the outdoor environment, a skywell is smaller and distinct from a northern courtyard.

Despite the fact     3     a skywell’s size and design vary from region to region, it is almost always rectangular (长方形) and located in the core of a house. It is either enclosed by rooms on four sides     4     three sides plus a wall. When wind blows above a skywell house, it can enter the indoor space through the opening. Because outdoor air is often cooler, the incoming wind travels down the walls to the lower stories     5     creates airflow by replacing     6    (warm) indoor air, which rises and leaves through the opening.

Due to the     7    (revive) of traditional Chinese architecture, skywell buildings have been making a comeback. Architects are now looking towards the     8    (principle) behind skywells while designing new buildings     9    (save) energy. One example is the National Heavy Vehicle Engineering Technology Research Center in the eastern Chinese city of Jinan. A giant skywell is in the middle of the 18-storey glass-walled tower block,     10    (stretch) from the fifth to the top floor.

文章大意:本文为一篇说明文。文章介绍了四个博物馆的独特之处。

2 . Some are attracted to museums by the art and the culture — but if that isn’t enough, there is always the strange!

Cancún Underwater Museum

No need to hold your breath to see this one. The Cancún Underwater Museum is, as the name suggests, underwater. More than 500 sculptures anchored in the ocean off Mexico are meant to illustrate the interplay of art and nature. Visitors can either admire the works through a glass-bottom boat or take a scuba diving tour.

Omaka Aviation Heritage Centre

With great attention to detail, New Zealand built the Omaka Aviation Heritage Centre, which exhibits original aircraft from the First and Second World Wars. Some belong to film director Sir Peter Jackson, who helped create the set designs with his team. Anyone interested in the pioneers of aviation should pay a visit to the museum in Blenheim.

Tenement Museum

At New York’s Tenement Museum, visitors can gain an insight into what life was like for immigrants and the working class in the city from the 1860s through to the 1980s. The museum opened in 1992 and offers guided tours of two tenement buildings with recreated rooms, where costumed ‘residents’ enact the daily lives of the city’s newcomers and workers over the period — leaps and bounds from the money makers of Wall Street.

Cupnoodles Museum

The Cupnoodles Museum in Yokohama, Japan, offers a treat: exhibits can be not only admired, but eaten. Visitors can work in the museum’s noodle workshop, refining creations with their favourite ingredients. 6 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

A man who had gone out of his town came back and found that his house was on fire. It was one of the most beautiful houses in the town, and the man loved the house the most! Many were ready to give a double price for the house, but he never agreed for any price and now it was just burning before his eyes. And thousands of people gathered, but nothing could be done. The fire spread so far that even if you tried to put it out, nothing would be saved. So he became very sad.

His son came running and whispered something in his ear, “Don't be worried. I sold it yesterday and at a very good price. The offer was so good, and I could not wait for you. Forgive me.”

The father said. “Thank God, it's not ours now!” Then he became relaxed and stood as a silent watcher, just like other watchers.

Then the second son came running, and he said to the father, “What are you doing? The house is on fire and you are only watching it burning?” The father said, "Don't you know your brother has sold it?"

He said, “We have taken only advance amount, not settled fully. I doubt now whether the man is going to purchase it.”

Tears which had disappeared came back to the father's eyes, and his heart started to beat fast. Then the third son came, and he said, “That man is a man of his word. I have just come from him. He said, ‘It doesn't matter whether the house is burnt or not, it is mine. And I am going to pay the price that I have settled for. Neither you nor I knew that the house would catch fire.’”

7 . Four homes built using everyday objects

Can newspapers and bottles be used as building materials? After touring these four homes built using these objects, you might just believe the answer is yes.

Plastic Bottle Village, Bocas del Toro

One man’s trash is another man’s treasure. Truer words could not describe Robert Bezeau’s project which began in 2012. After collecting tens of thousands of bottles, Bezeau recruited a team of locals to construct a building using the unwanted materials.

The Bottle Houses, Cape Egmon, Prince Edward Island

The Bottle Houses on Prince Edward Island, Canada, are the creation of Edouard T. Arsenault and his daughter Rejeanne. The father and daughter began construction in 1980. Over the months, they collected empty bottles, and by 1981 they opened the house to the public. Since then, the building has remained open to visitors, with sunny days being the best time to visit.

Earthship Biotecture, Taos, New Mexico

Michael Reynolds built his first Earthship when he was 23 years old. Starting out with nothing more than empty bottles, Reynolds set out to create a home that was not only sustainable, but also easy enough for someone without a construction background to build. Earthship Biotecture offers nightly stays. Self-guided tours are also available.

The Paper House, Rockport, Massachusetts

When Elis F. Stenman built his summer home in 1922, he turned to paper for materials. The design has proven to be quite durable, as it’s still standing nearly 100 years later. The home has been open to visitors since the 1930s, and only began charging 10 cents per person in 1942 when it became a museum. Today visitors can experience the Paper House for themselves for $2 for adults and $1 for children.
