文章大意:本文是一篇应用文。主要介绍了罗马的几个价格低廉,安全舒适的旅馆。

1 . Rome can be pricey for travelers, which is why many choose to stay in a hostel (旅社). The hostels in Rome offer a bed in a dorm room for around $25 a night, and for that, you’ll often get to stay in a central location (位置) with security and comfort.

Yellow Hostel

If I had to make just one recommendation for where to stay in Rome, it would be Yellow Hostel. It’s one of the best-rated hostels in the city, and for good reason. It’s affordable, and it’s got a fun atmosphere without being too noisy. As an added bonus, it’s close to the main train station.

If you’re looking for cleanliness and a modern hostel, look no further than Youth Station. It offers beautiful furnishings and beds. There are plenty of other benefits, too; it doesn’t charge city tax; it has both air conditioning and a heater for the rooms; it also has free Wi-Fi in every room.

Hotel and Hostel Des Artistes

Hotel and Hostel Des Artistes is located just a 10-minute walk from the central city station and it’s close to all of the city’s main attractions. 文章大意:这是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了英国房屋的不同类型以及两个时代的房屋特点。

3 . There are many different types of houses in the UK. You may see detached, semi-detached, terraced houses or even end-of-terrace houses on a typical street. You might see apartments in wealthier parts of town, or people living in bungalows, preferring to live a life without stairs. Strange cottages may dot the countryside, while heading to the cities you could see any number of types of flats, including houses turned into flats, studios and duplexes. But one thing you will notice is that many houses come from different eras, and asking a British person about their ideal home, many of them will have a specific period property in mind.

For some, it could be Victorian houses, which are often seen with bay windows, high ceilings, stained glass doors and colored brickwork. During the Victorian era, a huge number of houses, particularly terraced, were built in towns and cities to accommodate vast numbers of workers who were moving from more rural areas.

Georgian architecture refers to houses built during the period of 1714 and 1830 during the rules of four British monarchs. Usually houses with this architectural style have a more symmetrical theme, both internally and externally, with a small square garden in front. For those not into older properties, new builds from the 1990s onwards offer better insulation against the cold and newer electrics. And those who prefer less repairs could always go with the open-plan or minimalist look of the modern era.

So, whether it’s high ceilings, better insulation, brickwork, bungalows or square gardens, people in Britain have a wide variety of preferences when it comes to where they live. And their ideal home may just simply be a case of what style feels like home.

1. What do the Victorian houses have?
A.A small square garden in front.B.High ceilings and colored brickwork.
C.A more symmetrical theme than any other era.D.Broken windows and stainless doors.
2. Why does the author mention Victorian and Georgian houses?
A.To display the wisdom of the architects.B.To introduce the origin of them.
C.To attract people fond of British houses.D.To show the diversity of British houses.
3. What can we learn from the text?
A.The preference of British for the houses.B.The history of the Georgian houses.
C.The house structures of Britain.D.The fine scenery in Britain.
4. What will the author probably talk about next?
A.Ideal British home.B.Terraced houses.
C.Georgian houses.D.Square and gardens.

文章大意:本文是一篇说明文。本文主要介绍了世界上第一家冰雪酒店瑞典尤卡斯亚维(Jukkasjarvi)的著名冰酒店Ice hotel迎来第32次重装开业。

4 . Hotels often undergo makeovers. However, few can compete with the Ice hotel in Jukkasjãrvi, Sweden. Carved entirely from “Snice”a mix of snow and icethe hotel is rebuilt annually, with each version more impressive than the previous one. The 32nd Ice hotel was open to guests on April 17, 2022.

The must-visit Swedish tourist destination came about accidentally. In 1989, Ice hotel’s founder Yngve Berquist organized an art show to attract tourists to Jukkasjärvi during the chilly winter months. The exhibition, held inside a 5.5-square-metre igloo (冰屋), was a runaway (迅速的) success. Many visitors decided to spend the night, selling out all of Jukkasjärvi’s warm houses. Hence, when a group approached Berquist about a place to spend the night, he offered them the igloo. “To my surprise, the guests were very impressed by the experience the morning after. Ice hotel was born,” Berquist recalls.

The Ice hotel has come a long way since its humble (简陋的)start. Constructed from 1, 000 tons of ice, and 30,000 tons of “Snice”, it now covers an area of over 5, 500 square metres, Preparations for the annual hotel begin in March with the harvesting of 5,000 tons of ice from the nearby Torne River. The ice is kept in cold storage until November when about 100 workers and artists get to work carving out a new structure. Ice hotel is typically open for business by mid-December.

This year’s hotel comprises 36 rooms, including 12 crafted art suites (套间). Decorated with massive ice stones and carved water shapes, it aims to provide visitors with a good nature experience. The “Dickensian Street” suite promises to take visitors on a tour of 19th-century England, complete with cobbled (铺鹅卵石的) streets, shops, and buildings from the era. Guests are advised to stay inside thermal (保暖的) sleeping bags and wear gloves and winter hats all night. Not surprisingly, most move to the conventional, warmer cabins nearby after a single night.

1. When was Sweden’s Ice hotel open for the 22nd time?
A.In 2012.B.In 1992.C.In 1990.D.In 2022.
2. What made Ice hotel come into being?
A.Warm houses’ being sold out.B.The special warmth of it.
C.The cheap ticket of it.D.The unique structures of ice.
3. What’s the main idea of the third paragraph?
A.Differences of Ice hotel rebuilt from ever before.
B.The preparations for the annual hotel rebuilt.
C.How the ice is kept in cold storage in Ice hotel.
D.The development and construction of Ice hotel.
4. What can visitors do in Sweden’s Ice hotel?
A.Wear summer clothes even if in winter.
B.Spend nights in modern rooms in warm sleeping bags.
C.Experience 19th-century England in the “Dickensian Street” suite.
D.Taste different kinds of local special food in the Dickensian Street.

5 . Windows are hard. They are particularly hard in northern countries like Sweden, where during winter the days are short and the sun is very low in the sky. Window design in cold climate is a technical balancing act. You want it big to get the light, but you want it small to minimize the heat loss. But there is so much more that windows have to do for our social and emotional well-being.

A recent study published in Buildings and Cities looks at the many roles that windows play and the way people use them, exploring daylight, the visual connection to the outside and the role of windows in the home during the day and night. Windows do much more than just provide light and air: “Windows represent an enjoyment of the home and fulfil much more than physical needs. They must allow sufficient personal control over fresh and cool air, sound, sunlight, street lighting and privacy.”

The study authors, Kiran Maini Gerhardsson and Thorbjorn Laike, interviewed occupants living in multi-family dwellings. Windows turned out to be very important for occupant comfort, for visual connection to the outside. But they also had to be able to be screened for privacy; sometimes these conflicted. Sometimes the sill height was important. One occupant, Dmitry was going to add some frosted film to the bottom of his window. “I don’t want to see the faces of others when I’m sitting down, but when I’m standing and see their faces, I can wave to them,” he said.

Interviewees preferred daylight to artificial light for many reasons, including as a time indicator, and “because it varies, increases room brightness and improves mood”. Our bodies need the change from red to blue and back to red.

The authors conclude windows serve many functions that go beyond just light and air and should be designed accordingly. “There is much more to such experiences than the satisfaction of physical needs. Perceiving a room to be enough daylight, adequately pleasant and spacious seems to be equally essential, and a view of the world outside brings information to inhabit-ants. However, windows also need to prevent people outside from peering in moderate bright sunlight during the day.”

1. Which is the most difficult part of window design for cold climate?
A.The size.B.The material.C.The sill height.D.The shape.
2. What does the underlined word “these” in paragraph 3 refer to?
A.Social contact and staying alone.
B.Allowing fresh air to enter and preventing heat loss.
C.Receiving more daylight and using artificial light.
D.Getting connected with the outside and not letting out privacy.
3. Why did Dmitry want to add some frosted film to the bottom of his window?
A.To keep the room warm.B.To block the noise out.
C.To have his own private space.D.To make the window attractive.
4. What can be the best title for the text?
A.More space and more sunlight?B.The visual connection to the outside
C.Windows deliver more than light and airD.Do changes in houses affect well-being?
