5 . How to cheer others up

It is nice to help a friend, family member, or partner out when he or she is feeling down. Here are some easy ways to cheer him or her up.

Just listen. Generally speaking, people who are feeling down would rather be alone.     1     All that most of us need from time to time is the space to vent (发泄感情) feelings on someone who will simply listen without responding or offering a solution.

Offer to give advice.

    2     It is as simple as asking, “Would you like my advice?” or “Would you like to know what I think?”.     3     Your friend will appreciate not only that you have advice to offer, but that you respect them by asking permission first.

    4     Sometimes, being there for your friends is all they need. Whether your friend is having a bad day or a bad month, just taking timeout of your week to spend time together can make a difference.

Make them laugh.
