1 . One thing that’s never in short supply at the beginning of each new year?
Another common mistake people make when setting goals is becoming overly concerned about the amount of time it will take to form a new habit. There’s no one right answer when it comes to how long new habits should take to form.
So the yearly ritual of resolution setting doesn’t have to be an annual disappointment. Sometimes, the difference between success and failure is simply choosing the right habits and the process you use to go about achieving it. Most importantly, remember to be kind and flexible with yourself and to celebrate any and all progress along the way.
A.Good intentions. |
B.Congratulations and best wishes. |
C.In other words, you must also readjust your diet. |
D.It’s essential to choose a habit you think enjoyable. |
E.A common error many people make is not choosing right habits. |
F.It depends on what habit you’re trying to develop and who you are. |
G.It’s not just the end goal that matters—it’s the journey along the way. |
2 . If you understand the fable of the frog in the boiling water, it is time to learn how to avoid becoming the frog and make positive changes so that you can succeed and live your dream life. Here are a few tips you can follow.
Make a plan and work on it every day. Besides knowing what you want, you need to also know what you need to do to get there.
Take consistent action. Identifying your goals and knowing your plan is just a foundation step to achieving the success you want. You also need to take action and work on your goals if you want to achieve them.
Improve yourself regularly. Just like your phone, you update your mobile phone from time to time so that the software is the latest.
Always remember the story of the frog in the boiling water. And follow the tips I shared about to “hedge” yourself against the impact of gradual changes.
A.Create your future today, not tomorrow. |
B.You need to track, plan, invest, and save. |
C.You need to do the same to yourself. |
D.Set a goal and never turn aside along the way. |
E.Therefore, create an action plan for your goal. |
F.Avoiding being “cooked” in an environment matters. |
G.You can’t think about your dream, just praying over there. |
3 . Hello, 2024. It’s that time of the year again. The start of the new year is a natural time to consider what you may want to do differently, and your goals for the upcoming year. It is a common practice to create New Year’s resolutions, yet are they helpful?
Reflecting on your behaviors and creating goals that align (使一致) with your values can motivate helpful change.
However, people don’t always approach New Year’s resolutions in a helpful way.
So, if you plan to set a New Year’s resolution, first be honest with yourself about whether the resolution is important and meaningful to you.
Targeting small changes may be more useful than creating one or two large resolutions at the start of the year.
A.It depends. |
B.Do you have a clear why? |
C.Have you got the details yet? |
D.If your goals are not specific enough, |
E.When you clarify what is important and take steps in that direction, |
F.Then, be realistic with yourself and create small, specific and doable goals. |
G.Resolutions are usually not based on a genuine desire but on a sense of should. |

5 . How to Make and Keep a New Year’s Resolution
Are you making a resolution in the New Year? You’ll give yourself your best shot at success if your goals are SMART (specific, measurable, achievable, relevant and time-bound).
•Specific. Your resolution should be absolutely clear. Making a concrete goal is really important rather than just vaguely(含糊地) saying “I want to lose weight.” You want to have a goal: How much weight do you want to lose and at what time interval?
•Measurable. This may seem obvious if your goal is a fitness related one, but it’s also important if you’re trying to cut back on something, too. If, for example, you want to stop biting your nails, take pictures of your nails over time so you can track your progress in how those nails grow back out.
•Achievable. This doesn’t mean that you can’t have big stretch goals.
•Relevant.
•Time-bound. Like “achievable”, the timeline toward reaching your goal should be realistic, too. That means giving yourself enough time to do it with lots of smaller goals set up along the way.
If you’re building a habit, you’re planning for the next decade, not the next couple of months.
A.Five pounds in the next two months—that’s going to be more effective. |
B.Is this a goal that really matters to you, and are you making it for the right reasons? |
C.Logging progress into a journal or making notes in an app can strengthen the progress. |
D.Do you have a realistic plan for achieving your resolution? |
E.Focus on these small wins so you can make gradual progress. |
F.But trying to take too big a step too fast can leave you disappointed. |
G.It’s a resolution based on someone else’s intention. |
6 . Whether you’re traveling for business or pleasure, every trip needs a little planning. Things like flights and hotels have to be booked in advance.
Start planning 3-6 months in advance.
Pick a vacation destination that you will enjoy. If you’re traveling for pleasure, look for a destination that will be enjoyable for everyone going. Think about your interests and the interests of the people traveling with you, and consider destinations that work for everyone.
Make meal plans before you go. You don’t need a restaurant reservation for every meal when you’re gone, but you should think about meal plans before you go. Think about what meals may be included with your accommodations. Does your hotel offer free breakfast?
A.Set a travel budget. |
B.Make an emergency kit. |
C.Consider the age groups traveling with you. |
D.Travel planning doesn’t have to be stressful, though. |
E.If not, you may need to adjust your budget to include breakfast. |
F.The further away you want to go, the sooner you should start planning. |
G.No matter where you’re going, there are some things that are essential to pack. |

When I was a kid, the thing I enjoyed most about New Year’s Eve was trying to stay awake until midnight. My parents didn’t force me to go to bed early. However, I usually fell asleep before the New Year arrived. It wasn’t until my 10th birthday that I reached the finish line and was able to cheer with the rest of the family. When I woke up the next morning, my mom asked me if I wanted to make a New Year’s resolution(决心要做的事).
I had no idea what a New Year’s resolution was. After she explained it to me, I said I would try to fight less with my older brother. This got me a smile and a pat on the head from my mom. Unfortunately, the resolution lasted only until dinner time. The reason is that my brother and I got into an argument about who would set the table.
A New Year’s resolution is a decision to do or not do something in order to accomplish a personal goal or break a habit. It comes at a time when people look back at the past year and make an effort to improve themselves as the new year begins.
Adults often make New Year’s resolutions to lose weight or exercise more. Kids make resolutions to get along better with others or to do their homework right away.
Remember that it takes work to keep a New Year’s resolution. Don’t worry if you fail to make it once or twice. As long as you stay committed to what you want to accomplish, you’ll be proud of yourself in the end. And you’ll be a better person at the end of the year than you were at the beginning!
