Parents should help their children understand money.     1    . So you may start talking about money when your child shows an interest in buying things, candy or toys, for example.

5 . Demand for the Chinese tech company's devices (设备) is red hot even though the country's overall market for smartphones is getting smaller. Huawei's China sales rocketed more than 20% in the final quarter of 2019,and experts say that partly due to the US government's global campaign against the company.

“The latest tension between the US and China raised the patriotism (爱国主义) in Chinese consumers”, said Jusy Hong, an analyst at research firm IHS Markit.

He pointed out that some Chinese companies encouraged employees to buy Huawei phones late last year. The moves were a gesture of support after the firms chief financial officer was arrested in Canada in early December at the request of the United States.

Huawei sold 30 million phones in China in the last three months of 2018, nearly three times as many as Apple (AAPL), according to data published this week by research firms Canalys and IDC. Apples sales plunged almost 20%.

Huaweis success in China, the worlds largest smartphone market, is more than about geopolitics (地缘政治). Chinese consumers (消费者) love its flagship, high-end-phones because they have great cameras, cutting edge technology and cost less than the latest iPhones, according to analysts. And by offering a selection of cheaper phones, Huawei is able to target a bigger market.

It also benefited from the troubles this year at ZTE (ZTCOF), a rival Chinese smartphone and telecommunications equipment maker. ZTE was banned by the US government from buying vital American parts for months last year.

1. Why did Huawei's China sales increase greatly according to the article?
A.Because the company's devices are always popular worldwide.
B.Because Chinese consumers patriotism was aroused.
C.Because the government encourages people to buy Huawei devices.
D.Because the countrys overall market for smartphones is getting bigger.
2. What can we conclude from the third paragraph?
A.Huawei's chief financial officer was arrested in Canada due to the US's request.
B.All Chinese companies showed their support to Huawei with their purchase.
C.Jusy Hong thought the United States arrested Huawei's chief financial officer.
D.Jusy Hong thought the arrest of Huawei's chief financial officer is unfair.
3. How do you understand the underlined word in the fourth paragraph?
A.increased greatly byB.reduced greatly to
C.dropped greatly byD.remained steady
4. Why is Huawei's success in China more than about geopolitics?
A.Because Huawei has the largest smartphone market in the world.
B.Because Huawei's success is only limited within China mainland.
C.Because Huawei has the ability to target a bigger market in the world.
D.Because Chinese consumers are quite satisfied with Huawei smartphones.

6 . Choosing what to wear can be a tricky problem, especially if you’re a fashion victim. Trying to keep up with the latest styles involves regular visits to the shops and sometimes wasting money on expensive designer clothes. But when the fashion changes, these clothes are forgotten in the back of cupboards gathering dust, or just get thrown away.

There are many stores that now offer cheap “fast fashion”—low-price items that imitate the styles of more expensive designer brands. Environmentalists are angered by the amount of energy involved in making these clothes and that many of them are made from non-recyclable materials. This means that items go into landfill or are just incinerated, which is responsible for 20% of the world’s waste water, and 10% of carbon emissions.

This is something the fashion industry is becoming more aware of and has led to a new crop of biomaterials that replace wasteful textiles like cotton and leather. Examples include Piñatex, a leather-like substance made from deserted pineapple leaves. It’s been used in collections by Hugo Boss and H&M. And there’s mycelium, the root structure of mushroom that’s being used to create food, packaging and textiles.

Cotton is a very resource-intense crop to grow. Eleanor Lawrie says “about 15,000 liters of water are required to make one pair of jeans.” So, buying organic cotton is a better choice. And there is also Tencel, also known as Lyocell, a natural product that’s now growing in popularity.

“But creating sustainable textiles is only part of the battle. Buying second hand and buying fewer clothes are the obvious environmentally friendly choices.” said Dr. Richard from Leeds School of Design “I don’t think you should consider buying any item of clothing unless you commit to 30 years.”

1. Which of the following statements is correct?
A.Most people are not good at choosing what to wear.
B.The fashion industry tricks people into buying fashionable clothes.
C.Environmentalists are angry about buying fashionable clothes.
D.The cheap fast fashion industry should be to blame.
2. Which word can replace the underlined word in paragraph 2?
A.Donated.B.Recycled.C.Burnt.D.Stored.
3. What clothes is an environmentalist most likely to buy?
A.Clothes made of cotton.B.Clothes made of mushroom.
C.Clothes made of leatherD.Clothes made of Tencel.
4. What can we learn from Dr. Richard Blackburn’s word?
A.Clothes made of cotton will benefit the environment.
B.Don’t buy new clothes unless you make full use of the existing ones.
C.Second-hand clothes can be unhealthy for wearers.
D.Sustainable textiles will solve the environmental problems.

7 . For Western designers, China and its rich culture have long been an inspiration for Western creative.

"It's no secret that China has always been a source(来源)of inspiration for designers," says Amanda Hill, chief creative officer at A+E Networks, a global media company and home to some of the biggest fashion(时尚)shows.

Earlier this year, the China Through A Looking Glass exhibition in New York exhibited 140 pieces of China-inspired fashionable clothing alongside Chinese works of art, with the aim of exploring the influence of Chinese aesthetics(美学)on Western fashion and how China has fueled the fashionable imagination for centuries. The exhibition had record attendance, showing that there is huge interest in Chinese influences.

"China is impossible to overlook," says Hill. "Chinese models are the faces of beauty and fashion campaigns that sell dreams to women all over the world, which means Chinese women are not just consumers of fashion — they are central to its movement. "Of course, only are today's top Western designers being influenced by China — some of the best designers of contemporary fashion are themselves Chinese." Vera Wang, Alexander Wang, Jason Wu are taking on Galiano, Albaz, Marc Jacobs-and beating them hands down in design and sales," adds Hill.

For Hill, it is impossible not to talk about China as the leading player when discussing fashion. "The most famous designers are Chinese, so are the models, and so are the consumers," she says. "China is no longer just another market; in many senses it has become the market. If you talk about fashion today, you are talking about China —its influences, its direction, its breathtaking clothes, and how young designers and models are finally acknowledging that in many ways."

What can be a suitable title for the text?
A.Young Models Selling Dreams to the World
B.A Chinese Art Exhibition Held in New York
C.Differences Between Eastern and Western Aesthetics
D.Chinese Culture Fueling International Fashion Trends

8 . When asked why he or she wears clothes, some people will probably answer “to keep warm and to cover my body”. These are the basic reasons why clothes are worn, but people also want to look attractive and appear successful to others.

If people only wore clothes for warmth and to cover their bodies, most clothes would be simple and cheap. In most Western countries, however, clothes are sometimes very expensive. The main reason for this is not the cost of the cloth or the cost of making the clothes. The clothes are expensive because of fashion.

Successful businessmen, for example, often wear very expensive suits, shirts and ties. Sometimes they pay thousands of dollars for a suit and hundreds of dollars for a tie. It’s just a suit and a tie but they pay these prices because of the famous name of the designer. A suit costing much less would be just as warm and would cover the wearer’s body just as well.

Fashion is always changing, which means those who want to be fashionable have to buy new clothes every few months, even if last month's clothes have only been worn once or twice. Some people have wardrobes full of clothes that have hardly been worn but are no longer in fashion. Being fashionable, therefore, can be a very expensive pastime!

1. What do people basically wear clothes for?
A.Keeping warm and covering bodies.B.Following the fashion.
C.Looking attractive to others.D.Appearing successful to others.
2. We can learn from the passage that _______.
A.fashion is not always changingB.fashion is an expensive pastime.

A.Fashionable clothes shops.B.Cupboards for storing clothes.
C.The clothes that some people have.D.Shelves used for keeping books.
4. What is the passage mainly about?
A.Clothes and fashion.B.Suits and ties.
C.Cost and pastime.D.Beauty and success.

10 . Hands-on experience is still attractive to many buyers, although online ordering is popular in the UK today.

Oxford Street

London is shoppers’ paradise, and most visitors head for Oxford Street. Halfway along is Selfridges, one of the world’s first department stores where the architecture and window dressing impress even before you go in. There are at least four other major stores on this street, plus Europe’s largest music shop. In December the atmosphere is especially festive because of the Christmas lights which are always lit by a politician, a great sportsman, or a superstar.

Kensington High Street

A fashionable area for shopping is Kensington High Street. One of its department stores even has a roof garden — good for relaxing between purchases. There’s also an organic food superstore.

Borough Market

One of the oldest and best for food is probably Borough Market on the south bank of the Thames. Get off the underground at London Bridge and wander among fresh fish stands, bakeries, and fruit and vegetable sellers. You can also buy special food to take away, like cheeses, pork pies, mustard and chutney.

More places for bargains

Portobello Road on a Saturday is your best choice for jewelry or collector’s items. It’s a short walk from the subway station at Notting Hill Gate and you never know what you will find. For clothes, Camden Market is the place. It gets a little crowded at weekends, though. Convent Garden offers great experience for the simple pleasure of looking at jewelry and gifts.
