Cycling is kind to the environment so it is an excellent way to take in the city. Here are 4bike-friendly cities having adopted this green mode of transport to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Montréal has already established protected bike paths since the 1980s. BIXI is the city’s bike-sharing system with 9, 600 bikes and almost 800 stations. Cyclists can make their visit to the Tour de L’lle Montreal, a yearly bike ride where cyclists take to the streets for a day without any other vehicles being allowed on the roads.

Cycling in Malmö is enjoyable due to the relaxed and easy-going manner of most cyclists. The calming atmosphere makes it a great experience, even for nervous riders. A highly recommended bike route is from Ribersborg park to Limhamn Harbour, where riders can take a few good photos of the famous Oresund Bridge.

In the 1970s, bicycles were the main mode of transportation for people in Beijing. However, dedicated (专用的) cycle paths for cyclists were limited. Only in May 2019, did the city launch its first specific cycle path. This achievement in cycling facility is worth a shout-out for a city with over 21 million people.

Bogota first introduced the concept of cycle path in 1974. The idea sees cars being banned from city roads every Sunday from 7 a.m.to 2 p.m., helping cyclists, runners and walkers exercise safely. Since then, the city has slowly but steadily expanded the program, including setting up dedicated cycle paths. As a result, Bogota now has 550km of bike paths and is the most bike-friendly city in Latin America.

The family, with whom Liz, a student from Britain, is staying, have got four cars: a Mercedes-Benz for father, who drives it to work, a Chevrolet for mother, who uses it for shopping and visiting her friends, and Alex and his sister both have Fords. All the four cars are less than two years old, but none of them are as large as Liz has imagined.

“Smaller Cars have been made for a long time now,” Alex explained.“Partly because large cars burn up too much gas, and partly because of competition from smaller foreign cars, mostly Japanese and German.”

“I’ve noticed,” Liz said, “that your sidewalks don’t go as far as the suburbs, and yet you’re not supposed to walk along the highway.”

“That’s because nobody walks to work here,” Alex explained. “We do as little walking downtown as possible. We can’t do without our cars. We can do almost everything by using cars.”

“Did your father give you and June your cars?”

“Sure! But he won’t have money for gas or repairs or license. That’s why we both have part-time jobs three times a week. June waits table. I’m a teaboy.”

“But June’s just 17. At home we can’t get a learner’s license till we’re 17.” “We get one at 16 here. So all we have to do is to take a road test and get a driver ‘s license the moment we’re 17.”

6 . Amsterdam’s Blossoming Bikes Pop Up

Brightly coloured bikes decorated in flowers, butterflies and clocks have been popping up all over Amsterdam for years.     1    . They are from an American   man   named Warren       Gregory.

Known fondly as the Flower Bike Man, Warren’s bike-decorating campaign began when his wife couldn’t find her bike at Amsterdam Central. Warren’s wife, Michelle, often struggled to remember details like where she parked her bike. To help her out, Warren decorated her bike in bright flowers.     2    . He then decorated a bunch of abandoned bikes, which he left along the route home so that she would never get lost again.

    3    . Warren started decorating more bikes, and then ventured out into the streets early in the morning to leave his gifts to the world before the city woke up. Each bike was carefully named and had its own personality, all representing love and happiness.

Warren creates the bikes using money out of his own pocket, and uses old, abandoned bikes that he collects. Bringing these forgotten wrecks back to life is beautiful in so many ways. In a country where people love bikes so much, it’s no wonder that Warren has become a treasure in Amsterdam. People love Warren’s bicycles so much that they insist on paying for his creations.

Other than being a creative artist, Warren is also a really nice guy. His Instagram posts are flooded with encouragements and words of love, and you can feel the time and love that he   pours into every bike that he creates.     5    .

As the countdown to the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics continues, the new high-speed railway line    1     (connect) the capital with Olympic host city Zhangjiakou has just entered service. It cuts the travel time between the two from three hours    2     47 minutes. But this isn’t just another bullet train.
