Silk is a fine, smooth material making from cocoons(蚕茧) that is produced by mulberry silkworms. It is said that Lei Tzu, wife of the Yellow Emperor, who discovered silkworms. Originally, silkworms farming was only done by women, who were responsibly for the growing and weaving. Silk quickly grows into a symbol of status. And only the rich allowed to have clothes made of silk. During the Han Dynasty, silk was so precious as it was used as money. Demand for silk eventually created the trade route now known for the Silk Road. It stretched over 6,000 kilometer, taking silk westward and bring gold and wool to the East.
