文章大意:这是一篇议论文。文章指出了游客在景区的一些不文明的行为,并呼吁我们要杜绝这些行为,尽可能成为最好、最善良、最有礼貌的游客。

2 . Tourism can be both good and bad. Yes, it brings in money for the local economy and creates jobs for locals, but it may also bring some problems.

One growing problem is tourists who want to prove that they have visited a destination. Tourists have used paint, rocks, or even keys to write on the Luxor Temple in Egypt, the Colosseum in Rome, Stonehenge in the UK, memorial stones at the bottom of Qomolangma, and many, many other places. Thousands of tourist site s are being destroyed by tourists who “love them to death”. I have three words for people like this: please stop it. If you want to leave a mark on the world, do it by changing someone’s life with kindness and love. Pass kindness along to future generations, not destruction.

Another big problem in some places has been tourists disturbing the local people and life. Some tourists wander around and take pictures of local people without asking for their permission. For example, Chiang Mai University in Thailand and Yonsei University in South Korea have great numbers of tourists visiting their campuses and walking through their libraries and other public areas, taking pictures of students, and disturbing their studies. Another example is Sanlitun, a neighbourhood in Beijing, China. Some tourists love to party there late into the night, making it difficult for locals to sleep. I have three words for tourists like this please be considerate. Have fun in a way that does not disturb others.

The number of problems from tourists is endless: walking in large groups without considering others who need to walk by, crossing roads without thinking of local traffic laws, and many more. The only way to solve the problem of the terrible tourist is to make sure that you are not one! Be the best, kindest, most polite tourist possible, Remember, whenever you step outside your country’s borders, you are representing your country to the rest of the world.

1. What does the underlined word “destruction” mean in the second paragraph?
A.Breaking.B.Creation.C.Construction.D.Writing.
2. What is the third paragraph mainly about?
A.People travel to different places of the world.
B.Tourists love to party there late into the night.
C.Tourists take pictures of local people without asking for their permission.
D.Tourists disturb the local people and life.
3. What is the purpose of the last paragraph?
A.To explain the problem.B.To suggest a proper solution to the problem.
C.To introduce the importance of traveling.D.To call on readers to love their countries.
4. Which can be the best title for the text?
A.Tourism Can Be Both Good and Bad.B.Pass Kindness Along to Future Generations.
C.Tourists Are Troublemakers.D.Be a Good Tourist.

3 . Does using an eco-friendly paper straw (吸管) give you a good feeling because you’re doing something for the environment? “Straws made from plant-based materials, such as paper and bamboo, are often advertised as being more sustainable and eco-friendly than those made from plastic,” says researcher Dr. Thimo Groffen, an environmental scientist at the University of Antwerp. “However, the presence of PFAS in these straws means that could be discredited.”

PFAS chemicals, infamous for their longevity and potential harm, can adversely affect humans, wildlife and the environment. They biodegrade (生物降解) very slowly over time and can persist over thousands of years in the environment, a property that has led to them being known as “forever chemicals”. They are linked to various health issues, including thyroid disease, liver damage, kidney cancer and so on. Furthermore, these chemicals are used in everyday items, such as outdoor clothing and non-stick pans, to make them water and heat-resistant.

For a more in-depth analysis, the research team purchased 39 different brands of drinking straws made from five materials — paper, bamboo, glass, stainless steel and plastic, and then conducted two rounds of testing for PFAS. They found that most brands (69%) contained PFAS, with 18 different PFAS detected in total. In paper straws, PFAS was detected in 90% of the brands tested. PFAS was also detected in 80% of brands of bamboo straws, 75% of plastic straw brands and 40% of glass straw brands. They were not detected in any of the five types of steel straws tested.

“The presence of PFAS in paper and bamboo straws shows they are not necessarily biodegradable,” says Dr. Groffen. “We did not detect any PFAS in stainless steel straws, so I would advise consumers to use this type of straw — or just avoid using straws.”

The PFAS concentrations (浓度) were low and, considering that most people only use straws occasionally, pose a limited risk to human health. However, PFAS can remain in the body for many years and concentrations can build up over time. “Small amounts of PFAS, while not harmful in themselves, can add to the chemical load already present in the body,” Dr. Groffen concludes.

1. What does the underlined word “discredited” in paragraph 1 probably mean?
A.Plain.B.Relevant.
C.Doubtful.D.Forceful.
2. Why are PFAS chemicals known as “forever chemicals”?
A.They are resistant to water and heat.
B.They take a long time to break down.
C.They exist widely in daily necessities.
D.They may cause various common diseases.
3. What can we know from the test for PFAS?
A.PFAS was found in all five types of straws.
B.Paper straws were most likely to contain PFAS.
C.Stainless steel straws are harmless to human health.
D.Glass straws were the most environmentally friendly straws.
4. What does the author intend to do in the last paragraph?
A.To stress the potential risks of PFAS.
B.To show approaches to using straws safely.
C.To present the advantages of stainless steel straws.
D.To appeal to consumers to avoid using straws in daily life.

4 .

Cheating can happen in a lot of different ways. When people cheat,it’s not fair to other people, like the kids who studied for the test or who the true winners of a game were.

Many people like the action of cheating. In their opinion,it makes difficult things seem easy, like getting all the right answers on the test. But it doesn't solve the problem of not knowing the material and it won't help on the next test—unless the person cheats again.

Some people lose respect for cheaters and think less of them. The cheaters themselves may feel bad because they know they shouldn't get that good grade. And,if they get caught cheating, they will be in trouble at school, and maybe at home, too.

Some kids cheat because they're busy or lazy and they want to get good grades without spending the time studying.Other kids might feel like they can’t pass the test without cheating.Even when there seems to be a “good reason” for cheating, cheating isn’t a good idea.

If you were sick or upset about something the night before the day and couldn’t study,it would be better to talk with the teacher about this. And if you don’t have enough time to study for a test because of swim practice, you need to talk with your parents about how to balance swimming and school.A kid who thinks cheating is the only way to pass a test needs to talk with the teacher and his or her parents so they can find some solutions together.Talking about these problems and working them out will feel better than cheating.

1. What does the author think when kids cheat in class?
A.It is unfair to other people.
B.It does harm to their health.
C.Teachers should punish them.
D.Teachers shouldn't stop them at once.
2. Why do many people like to cheat?
A.Because they think the material in the test is very difficult.
B.Because they want to do better than the others.
C.Because cheating can make hard things seem very easy.
D.Because they have little time to study their lessons.
3. What does the fourth paragraph mainly tell us?
A.Some kids can’t pass the test without cheating.
B.Why kids cheat in the test.
C.Cheating isn’t a good idea.
D.Some kids don't spend the time studying.
4. What can we learn from the passage?
A.Cheaters are often thought highly of.
B.People show no respect for those who cheat.
C.Parents whose kids cheat are often in trouble.
D.Kids cheat in the test because of swim practice.

文章大意:本文为一篇说明文。文章介绍了因为艺术家搬到低收入社区,使该区出现咖啡店和商场,变舒适了的社区会吸引跟多人来这里,最终导致房价上涨,这就是“城市士绅化”现象。

6 . Urban gentrification is thought to happen like this: artists move into lower income neighborhoods, looking for cheap gallery and living space. “So they move into these neighborhoods, and they make these neighborhoods really pleasant to live in. They kind of create a nice kind of lively and exciting scene” Chanuki Seresinhe, a data scientist at the Warwick Business School, in the U.K. Next come the fashionable cafes and shops. “But what happens is of course then other people are then attracted to move into these areas. And so the demand for these places increases and housing prices then go up.”

So the story goes. But Seresinhe and her colleagues wanted to see if online data told the same story. So they analyzed four and a half million photos uploaded to Flickr, from 2004 to 2013 — each geotagged (地理标签) somewhere in London. Then they recorded how many of each neighborhood’s photos were marked “art”. And they found that neighborhoods with a higher percentage of “art” marked photos actually did see a higher increase in housing prices during the study period. The results are in the journal Royal Society Open Science.

Foursquare and Twitter data can also track gentrification changes, as another recent study showed. But the link here isn’t necessarily predictive-maybe neighborhoods with rising prices just attract more photo-tagging art lovers. “That’s why I wouldn’t say, you know, go out and buy a house in an artsy neighborhood, you’re going to be rich in five years’ time. Because sometimes there could be other factors involved.”

But the connection does suggest your photos and social media posts can be used for more than showing off about brunch. “Sharing this data could be so valuable for academic research. We can actually use this data to do something good in the world.” Like giving local organizations and urban planners a better look at how and why cities change. All you’ve got to do, is add a few marks.

1. What contributes to the rise of the housing prices in a particular area?
A.Fancy cafes and shops appear.
B.Lower income residents pour in.
C.The neighborhoods enjoy large living spaces
D.Cheap galleries are constructed after artists move in.
2. How did Seresinhe and her colleagues do the survey?
A.They analyzed some previous figures.
B.They did the survey from 2004 to 2013.
C.They uploaded four and a half million photos to Flickr.
D.They studied numerous photos marked “art” in London on Flickr.
3. What is the relationship between art and rising housing prices?
A.There is no necessary connection.
B.Art can surely lead to a high housing price.
C.A neighborhood with a high housing price must be artsy.
D.Artists are responsible to promote a high housing price.
4. What does the underlined word “gentrification” in paragraph 1 probably refer to?
A.The diversity from few to many.
B.The replacement from a village to a city.
C.The change from nothing to something
D.The process from the lower to the upper.

Online friendships in the past were doubted and not considered reliable because you didn’t know who was behind the screen. But now, when we can go shopping online, clear bills in online banks, and virtually attend schools, why can’t we find some real friends online?

9 . If you wear glasses, it is possible that you are smarter. Research published in the famous British journal Nature Communications has found that people who displayed higher levels of intelligence were almost 30 percent more likely to wear glasses.

The scientists studied the genes of thousands of people between the ages of 16 and 102. The study showed intelligence can be connected to physical characteristics. One characteristic was eyesight. In 3 out of 10 people who were more intelligent there was a higher chance they needed glasses. Scientists also said being smarter has other benefits. It is connected to better health.

It is important to remember these are connections which are not proven causes. Scientists call this correlation. Just because something is associated with(与...相关联)something else does not mean one of those things caused the other. And it’s worth noting that what makes up intelligence is subjective and can be difficult, if not impossible, to measure.

Forget genes though. Plenty of proof shows wearing glasses makes people think you are more intelligent, even if you do not need glasses. A number of studies have found people who wear glasses are seen as smarter, hard-working and honest. Many lawyers use this idea to help win their cases. Lawyer Harvey Slovis explained this.” “Glasses soften their appearance.” he said. Sometimes there has been a huge amount of proof showing that people he was defending broke the law. He had them wear glasses and they weren’t found guilty(有罪的).

Glasses are also used to show someone is intelligent in movies and on TV. Ideas about people who wear glasses have begun to shift. People who do not need glasses sometimes wear them for fashion only. They want to look cool. But not everyone is impressed by this idea, though. GQ magazine said people who wear glasses for fashion are trying too hard to look smart and hip (时髦的). However, that hasn’t stopped many celebrities from happily wearing glasses even if they do not need them. Justin Bieber is just one fan of fashion glasses.

1. What does the new study show?
A.Wearing glasses can make people cleverer.
B.Wearing glasses is connected to higher IQ.
C.People wearing glasses are smarter.
D.People wearing glasses are healthier.
2. What does the underlined word “correlation” in Paragraph 3 mean?
A.effect.B.contact.C.link.D.result.
3. Why do some lawyers ask their clients to wear glasses in court?
A.Because it can create a innocent image.
B.Because it can mislead the witnesses(证人).
C.Because it can highlight clients’ qualities.
D.Because it can prove the client’s innocence(无罪).
4. What is the general attitude to those who wear glasses for fashion?
A.Mixed.B.Positive.C.NegativeD.Indifferent.

10 . One form of social prejudice against older people is the belief that they cannot understand or use modern technology.     1     Isn't it unfair that older people enjoying a computer game should be frowned upon by their children and grandchildren?

Nowadays older people have more control over their lives and they play a full part in society. Moreover, better health care has left more people in their sixties and seventies feeling fit and active after retirement.     2     Playing computer games is a very effective way of exercising the brain.

When personal computers were first introduced, most older people didn't believe they would ever familiarize themselves with it. Now computers have been around for a few generations and retired people have gradually become more relaxed about using them for fun.     3     Kate Stevens, aged 72, says, “I find playing such games very relaxing. It's not very demanding, but you still need to concentrate.”

4     There's a greater variety of games to choose from, including more intellectual and complex strategy and simulation( 模拟) games. Internet Chess and Train Simulator are among the most popular of these. Train Simulator is based on real-world activities. Players can choose from a variety of challengers, such as keeping to a strict-timetable and using helper engines during a winter storm.

Some people argue that “grey gamers” simply don't have the skills required for computer games, and that teenagers are better.     5     Most computer games require the kind of analytical thinking that improves with practice, which means that the “grey gamers” may well be far better than gamers half a century younger than them. In games where speed is the main consideration, older people would be at a disadvantage because they may have slower reaction time. On the other hand, “grey gamers” have a preference for slower paced, mind challenging games.

A.This is where I don’t agree
B.This couldn't be further from the truth.
C.Gamers over 65 prefer playing puzzle games and card games.
D.Mental activity, as well as physical exercise, can contribute to better health.
E.This prejudice is based on the following research conducted by some psychologists in Chicago University.
F.Activities like playing computer games, going on the Net and downloading MP3s are only for the youngsters.
G.Another development that has favored “grey gamers” is a change in the type of videogames available on the market.
