Nowadays, it is common that more and more high school students open their own micro blogs on the Internet. For one thing, it can provide a colorful platform to show their talent. For     1    , it is a useful way     2    (release) their pressure. And all these make it more and more popular with high school students.     3     many parents and teachers hold a different view. They think that     4    (manage)one’s micro blog will take a lot of time and energy,     5     should be used to study.

In my view, I am greatly in favor of this activity. Today the Internet is playing     6     important role in our life. Therefore, as high school students of the Information Age, we need to learn to make use of this valuable tool to communicate and display ourselves.

2 . The case for and against social media

Is social media harmful to teenagers?     1     Social media sites have been blamed for most of the world’s social problems from feeling disconnected and lonely to having difficulty forming meaningful relationships. Yet, many of us feel a need to use social media because it offers something we cannot find elsewhere, despite knowing the downsides.     2

An argument for social media claims it can strengthen social bonds by facilitating relationships with people in different geographical areas. For example, social media has helped old school friends to get back in touch after many years without contact.     3     These are real benefits of using social media.

4     The argument used by many people is that interactions on social media are no substitute for face-to-face communication. When you are out with friends how many times do they check their phones? for example.     5     Research highlights it is far more satisfying to physically laugh out loud in real life rather than to replace the act with a typed representation of laughter such as “haha” or “LOL”.

Ideally, we should have enough self-control to be able to limit our use of social media, enjoying the benefits it can bring.

A.The disadvantages of social media.
B.In my opinion, the disadvantages of social media outweigh the benefits.
C.It is all too easy to become absorbed in this online life rather than communicate in real life.
D.People secure jobs now through social media or research information for their studies.
E.This is the question we are going to examine.
F.We will look at the arguments for and against using social media before answering the question.
G.We aim to control our use of social media.

文章大意:本文是说明文。文章以学生Bryson Lan为例,说明了社交媒体对青少年的影响。

3 . Social media has completely taken over everyday life, affecting how society runs and changing individuals in ways that even they can feel. While social media can act as a platform for people to express themselves, it can also be overwhelming, especially for high school teens.

To teenager Bryson Lan, quitting social media helped eliminate (消除) a significant distraction in his routine and keep up with teachers. “I was scrolling through social networking sites so much,” Lan said. “I was also starting to struggle since I entered my high school year. When school started, I was super overwhelmed (不知所措的), and I was just not ready for it.”

Most teenagers fear that by eliminating these apps, they will miss out on connections with their peers and feel a significant loss to their social life. However, Lan found he didn’t miss anything during his time without social media.

Another problem with social media is the amount of “junk content” posted. People are regularly posting and updating on social media, and much of the content has no meaning to other viewers and is ultimately a time suck.

However, social media isn’t all negative. Social media can be a place to develop passions and boost creativity. For example, Lan found his interest in photography blossom after seeing works from other photographers on social media. “Social media is a good place where you can have a portfolio (作品集) or upload your works,” Lan said. “A lot of people have photography accounts or art accounts. In some ways, I think it actually furthers your hobby.” “Thanks to this revolutionary development of social media, we can enjoy a world where everyone is closer than before,” Lan said. “But we also need to have the skills to make good use of social media, and that depends on each person’s efforts.”

1. What did getting rid of social media bring Lan?
A.More distractions.B.Confusion about life.
C.A smaller social circle.D.More attention on his studies.
2. What does the underlined phrase “a time suck” in paragraph 4 mean?
A.A waste of time.B.A timetable.C.A lack of time.D.A time switch.
3. What’s Lan’s attitude towards social media?
A.Doubtful.B.Unclear.C.Objective.D.Supportive.
4. What’s the main idea of the text?
A.Most teenagers’ opinions on social media.B.The effects social media has on teenagers.
C.Innovative development of social media.D.The problems social media brings people.

5 . It was a cold Saturday night in February. Some 200 New Yorkers carefully made their way to the reservoir (水库) in the hopes of catching a glimpse of the magical snowy owl, who had touched down in the park the week before in what was reported as the first visit there by the species in more than 130 years.

Except for a few excited screams from children, people were quiet — patiently awaiting the owl’s arrival at the reservoir’s north gatehouse. The snowy owl did not disappoint. She flew down from the darkness and surveyed the water and the people holding phones and cameras before taking off into the night to the applause of her many fans. They simply wanted to see this lovely creature whose improbable appearance seemed to signify hope after the lockdown.

New Yorkers who had long taken Central Park for granted felt a renewed love for this rectangle of green in the heart of the big city and, of course, its amazing wildlife. That the park is a beautiful and essential refuge is something that humans have only come to fully appreciate during these recent times of uncertainty.

Central Park was originally planned and constructed during another difficult time in the nation’s history — in the years before and during the American Civil War. Unlike many European parks that had originally been built for the aristocracy (贵族), Central Park was designed as a public space. In its chief architect Frederick Law Olmsted’s words, the poor and rich alike could “easily go there after their day’s work is done” and “stroll for an hour, seeing, hearing, and feeling nothing of the noise of the streets.”

As spring turns into summer, we see people sitting on the grass or benches — catching some sun, having family picnics, or tapping away on their laptops and iPads. Just being in proximity to other people in Central Park gave us a sense of community — the sense that we would somehow persevere.

1. What did people do in Central Park on that Saturday night?
A.They cheered for each other.B.They paid their first visit.
C.They came for a rare sight.D.They appreciated a water event.
2. What does the author mainly intend to do in Paragraph 4?
A.Give some examples.B.Make a comparison.
C.Introduce a new opinion.D.Add background information.
3. What do the underlined words “in proximity to” in Paragraph 5 mean?
A.close toB.free from
C.at a distance from            D.in comparison with
4. Which of the following is a suitable title for the text?
A.Find Refuge in Central Park
B.Take Your Breath by Snow Owl
C.Trace Central Park to difficult times
D.Meet an improbable “visitor” in person

6 . Twenty-five years ago, most young Britons wanted a career in law, to be a doctor, or, if they were creative enough, to take up singing. But today, things stand differently.

According to a survey by Tesco Mobile, a UK company, the “dream job” of young people aged between 16 and 25 in the UK is a video blogger, or “vlogger” (视频博主). The survey, carried out among 1,002 people, found that as much as 40 percent of them put vlogger as their number one choice on a list of ideal careers.

This change is undoubtedly as a result of the Internet and social media. They have made it so much easier to reach audience of the world, without having to enter a career in show business in the traditional way.

In the past, the biggest stars were trained by the Hollywood studios; now, anyone with a computer camera can become a star. Vloggers are the big stars of today because they are normal people interacting with their fans about everyday life.

However, what people see is only the bright side of being a vlogger and they fail to notice the fact that only those who are successful earn fame and fortune. For every success there are hundreds of others who never get off the starting line. There are the dreams that come true and the dreams that remain dreams forever.

Although being vloggers is popular, some young people choose to follow careers that don’t necessarily earn them fame, but allow them to make good use of the Internet to share their hobbies. Young Israeli David Leshaw, for example, runs a business called the Finishers Club. It’s an online platform for runners to keep a record of their races. His job allows him to express his enthusiasm, and is always a learning experience. And that's enough for him.

1. What is the passage mainly about?
A.Most young Britons choose to be vloggers as their job.
B.The Internet is influencing young Britons’career choice.
C.The Internet is taking the place of traditional studios.
D.Young Britons can not find jobs without the Internet.
2. Why do more and more young Britons choose to be vloggers?
A.Vloggers can earn greater fame and more money on the Internet.
B.There is too much competition in the traditional show business.
C.The Internet makes it convenient to enter show business.
D.Anyone with a computer will surely become a star.
3. What can we infer from Paragraph 5?
A.Only a few vloggers can be famous and wealthy.
B.A vlogger can not earn fame and fortune.
C.People often see the bright side of being a vlogger.
D.Dreams will always remain dreams.
4. What do young people like David do on the Internet?
A.Learn from others.B.Become an online hit.
C.Hold running races.D.Combine jobs with hobbies.
