1 . Most people can't live to 100. Those who do live so long can hardly walk, let alone take part in any activities. A few people, however, take part in dangerous activities even though they are more than 100 years old﹣ They keep going and going! There is a great grandmother who likes challenging herself although she is 101 years old this year.

Mary Hardison believes that people should always be cheerful and more importantly, take on all kinds of adventures while they physically still can. So, instead of celebrating her 101st birthday with a boring party, she decided to go paragliding(滑翔跳伞)﹣ an idea she got from her 75﹣year﹣old son who recently took it up as a hobby.

So on her birthday, cheered on by her big family, she tied herself up together with expert instructor Kevin Hintze, and jumped down fearlessly from the sky near her home in Ogden, Utah. And, it was not just a simple jump either. According to Kevin Hintze, the grandmother encouraged him to turn around, as they made their way down.

This is not the first time that Mary has done something "wild" and "crazy". For her 90th birthday she rode all the adult rides at Disneyland. And, she is not done yet﹣ For her 102nd birthday she hopes to go down the 3,000 feet Alpine Slide at Utah's Park City Mountain Resort!

文章大意:本文是一篇记叙文。文章主要讲述了加拿大宇航员Chris Hadfield小时候看到阿波罗11号登录地球的新闻后,励志成为一名宇航员,并最终实现梦想的故事。

4 . In 1969, watching the landing of Apollo 11 on the Moon on TV from his parents’ farm in Canada, Chris Hadfield was amazed and excited. On that day, at only nine years old, Chris made the most important decision of his life: He was going to be an astronaut.

There wasn’t even a training program in Canada to become an astronaut; but Chris was determined. He spent a great deal of time studying and fixing engines. After school he joined the Canadian army where he learned to fly many different types of planes. Chris did a lot of research for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) in the United States and had special training. Finally, in 1995 he rode his first rocket into space.

Chris became the first Canadian astronaut to walk in spare, and went on a number of space missions throughout his career. The most memorable was his five-month stay on the International Space Station (ISS) as commander, between December 2012 and May 2013.He posted on social media thousands of photos of Earth and videos of himself explaining how things work in zero gravity. His followers could watch him sleeping, brushing his teeth, washing his hands, or preparing “space” snacks in zero gravity, which turned him into a social media phenomenon.

Today, Chris travels the world giving talks about his work. He once said, “Decide in your heart of hearts what really excites and challenges you, and start moving your life in that direction. Every decision you make, from what you eat to what you do with your time tonight, turns you into who you are tomorrow. Look at who you want to be, and start sculpting yourself into that person. You may not get exactly where you thought you’d be, but you will be doing things that suit you in a profession you believe in. Don’t let life randomly kick you into the adult you don’t want to become.”

1. What led Chris to make up his mind to be an astronaut?
A.The life on his parents’ farm.B.His ability to fly various planes.
C.Apollo 11’s landing on the Moon.D.His passion for studying engines.

B.The pictures and videos he posted online.
C.His inspiring talks about his work around the world.

C.From small beginnings come treat endings.
D.The key to success lies in the firm aim.
4. Which of the following best describes Chris?

5 . Most heroes are not super. They don’t appear in comic books, on television, or in movies. They just do what they believe needs to be done to make their world a better place. Bike Batman is one of them.

Bike Batman is a 30-year-old married engineer who lives in Seattle, Washington. He’s a cyclist who also buys and sells bikes as a hobby.

About three years ago, he was looking for a bike for his wife. He found one on Craigslist, a website where people list things they want to sell. As he often does, he also looked at Bike Index, a popular website that allows users to register their bikes and post reports when they’re taken. The bike, which he was considering purchasing, clearly matched one reported stolen on Bike Index.

Then he called the person who claimed(声称) to be the bike’s owner and arranged to meet him— supposedly to complete the sale. When the two men met, Bike Batman told the thief, “You’ve got two choices. You can wait until a police officer gets here, or you can just get out of here.” You can imagine what the thief did.

After that first success, Bike Batman developed a safer routine. When he sees questionable bike ads on Craigslist, he cross-references the image with bikes reported on Bike Index. Once he has confirmed it with the owner, he arranges a meet-up with the thief and will call the Seattle police department so that officers can participate in the action. In more than half of the 22 cases in which he has got back and returned bikes, the thieves have been caught. In one case, Bike Batman even helped a family recover a wide range of prized belongings that suspects(嫌疑犯)had stolen during a home burglary.

His nickname came from a discussion with a police officer who suggested he be called “Robin Hood”. Since he wasn’t exactly stealing from the rich and giving to the poor, “Batman” seemed a better fit. The idea of a superhero punishing criminals feels pretty silly to him, but the main reason he continues his work is to keep up Seattle’s fame as a friendly city.

1. Bike Batman is           .
A.a superheroB.a website manager
C.a Seattle citizenD.a police officer
2. When Bike Batman discovers a questionable bike, he will first           .
A.contact the owner of the stolen bikeB.look up the bike’s information
C.call the police departmentD.arrange to meet the thief
3. Bike Batman helps find the lost bikes to           .
A.become famousB.help poor people
C.punish bike thievesD.build a friendly city
4. From the passage, we can learn that           .
A.Bike Batman felt relieved to see the thieves caught
B.Bike Batman began his good deeds by accident
C.the police failed to perform their duties
D.the thieves refused to return the bikes

7 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。续写的词数应为150左右。

As a fourteen-year-old girl, you may think that the biggest problem you can probably face is failing one of your classes in high school, but not everything is as easy as it seems. My parents are going through a lot lately. We recently moved from Houston and bought a house in Dallas, and my dad had almost no money left in the bank due to the fact that he had to pay the water and electricity company in order for them to be available in my house.

My brother, who was a nice, happy, free-caring six-year –old boy, just like every other, started to become very distant from us the first week we moved into the house. As much as we tried to ask him what was wrong, he wouldn’t tell us. I was really confused by the way he acted, because he normally was a nice and kind little boy who would often go out and play with the neighbours and would just be outside, enjoying the day. That little boy completely turned around and became a very distant, cold child. He would keep silent and sit in his room the whole day with the door closed. He would not go out even for supper, and we were wondering what happened.

We went to talk to his teacher who said that he was very shy when it came to talking in front of the other kids, but he had developed a little confidence and started to play with the kids in his class. The teacher mentioned that he and a kid from a higher level started ‘‘hanging out” away from the rest of the kids. My mum thought of it as a good thing, thinking it meant that my brother had started to make new friends, but I knew it meant something else. I tried talking to my brother even though he didn’t want to, but he didn’t say anything dealing with the bigger kid.

Until one day, he came home, crying, and it seemed I was the only one who noticed.

9 . Early reports on COVID-19 compared what was developing to the “Spanish Flu”, an influenza pandemic(流感大流行)just over 100 years earlier. And yet, I grew up never having heard my parents speak of it or their experiences!I had questions about it, but no answers since my parents are no longer with us.I thought to myself, “I don't want this kind of thing to happen to the younger generation in my family in relation to the COVID-19 pandemic.”

One day in December 2020,I had an idea of a family quilt (被子)documenting our family's experience of the pandemic. The idea excited me because I've always loved quilting. Also,I really wanted something creative to do during lockdown.

I ran the idea by my family members-my four adult children and their spouses(配偶) (with invitations also to my eight grandchildren). They all gave it some thought and said “Go for it!”

So,I asked each person to create a square to express their views on and experiences of the pandemic. We did some brainstorming together.I ordered the cloth and quilting supplies we needed. And we found a good local shop that did a great job printing photos and other designs onto cloth. Each family unit contributed a few completed squares for a total of 20 squares. The quilt covers three generations: the youngest family member is 17 this year, and I'm the oldest at 83. It took us almost four months from the time I imagined it to the day I finished sewing (缝)it up.

Once the pandemic has ended, I will sew the end date and any other key information onto the inside of the quilt. It may not be as skilled as some of my earlier work-I hadn't made a quilt in a long time!-but it's certainly one of the most creative and exciting things I've done, already serving the cause of bringing our family closer together.

A.To keep her family’s quilt making tradition alive.
B.To show her love and thanks for her parents.
C.To get her children's attention away from the pandemic.
D.To record memories of the pandemic for future generations.
2. What was the author's family's attitude to her idea of creating a family quilt?
A.They thought it was crazy.B.They were supportive of it.
C.They were doubtful about it.D.They paid little attention to it.
3. What can we learn about the quilt from paragraph 4?
A.It was a joint effort.
B.It could be seen in a local shop.
C.It became a fine example of new quilts.
D.It took longer to complete than expected.
4. What does the author say about the quilt?
A.It reminds her of her childhood.
B.It took more skill than her earlier work.
