6 . When Omar Mohamed was a boy living in the Dadaab refugee(难民) camp in Kenya, he loved picture books. But his school only had about three or four; the teachers_________them out for the children to_________just a few times a year. “When that happened, it was a special_________,” says Mohamed, 31. “You read and you reread that book. Then you reach a point where you can become more_________with it.”

Now he’s the star of his own_________book, the graphic memoir(回忆录) When Stars Are Scattered._________to middle schoolers, the book_________Mohamed’s life at the refugee camps up to 2009, when he and his_________, Hassan, resettled to the US. The boys first arrived to Dadaab in the early 90s after the start of Somalia’s civil war. Mohamed was 4 and Hassan was 2 when their village was attacked. In the_________, Mohamed and Hassan were__________from their three sisters and their mom.__________, their father had been killed by gunmen. A group of neighbors took them along as they__________safety in Kenya.

At the__________, an elderly neighbor named Fatuma looked after the boys__________a mom. As Mohamed grew older, he helped take care of Hassan, who has epilepsy(癫痫症) and is non-verbal. He made many efforts to__________with their mom. And he had to make__________choices about whether to go to school—and move with Hassan to a new country.

Today, Mohamed, lives in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, with his wife, five children and Hassan. He helps__________refugees in the US for the group Church World Service and is the__________of Refugee Strong, a non-profit__________that provides a variety of__________resources for refugee children to improve their study in Kenya.

7 . My parents and I moved to a small house on my third birthday. My first memory is our________Arlene________me strawberries from her garden through a chain-link fence. She and her husband, Bill, lived next door.

9 . On May 12, 2008, 23-year-old Liao Zhi thought it was the end of the world. A deadly _________ rocked her apartment building in Sichuan, causing it to fall down.

Under the fallen building, Ms Liao, a dancer, heard the search and rescue team _________ her, but she didn’t have the energy to _________. Then she heard her father calling her name. She thought: “I must _________ my father again.”

She made it out alive after being buried for 30 hours — but she _________ everything: her home, her daughter and both her legs.

In the hospital, friends and relatives cried beside her. But she managed to bear the pain and _________ with them.

Other patients in the room asked her: “Why are you still _________ at this point?”

“Because I am still _________,” she replied.

Two months after the earthquake, she was asked if she wanted to take up _________ again.

At the time, she was still in recovery, but that did not stop her determination. “I __________ to get on the stage one more time,” she said.

__________, from treatment to adjusting of prosthetic limbs (义肢), Ms Liao said it was a(n) __________ journey. “It was common to be in great pain,” she said.

If I don’t throw them back into the sea, they’ll die up here from lack of ______. “I understand,” my friend replied, “______, there must be thousands of starfish on this beach. You can’t ______ get to all of them. There are ______ too many. And don’t you realize this is probably happening on hundreds of beaches all up and down this coast? Can’t you see that you can’t possibly make a difference?”

The man ______, bent down, and picked up yet ______ starfish, and ______ he threw it back into the sea, he replied, “Made a difference ______ that one!”
