3 . Two years ago, Jaylan Gray was in college pursuing his dream of becoming a park keeper. No physician wants to hear these words while flying. We were over the North Atlantic, and my husband and I were on our way home from a European holiday. The cabin (座舱) was darkened for the inflight _______ when “Wake up! Oh, help!” _______.

I was out of my seat, fast. The flight attendant and I arrived together to see a _______ elderly woman holding the hand of her husband, who wasn’t _______ to her. His head was back, his mouth open.

I sat on the arm of the seat, still _______ his pulse, and asked the woman about her husband. At 90 years old, he had a clean _______ history. The couple had travelled to Scotland to celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary, and they were on their way home. It had been a good holiday, but ________.

Soon after, I reported it to the ________.

“We can put the plane down ________ 20 minutes in Gander,” he told me, “or ________ for two hours and ________ in Toronto. What do you want me to do, doctor?”

“Put it down.” I said. It wasn’t worth taking any chances, and the safest thing was to get him hospital care quickly.

Three weeks later, I received a lovely thank you note from this man, who will ________ remain in good health for years to come.

6 . It isn’t every day that the future and the past meet on national television.

Peter Davies, a 100-year-old World War II veteran from Macclesfield, England struggled to find ________ in his life after his wife passed away. ________, when his daughter suggested he offer his help at the local elementary school, he decided to ________ it.

Peter ________ at Dean Valley Primary School, Bollington, and he is a huge hit with all of the children he tutors. 8 . It wasn’t easy to practice gratitude (感激) every day. After I _________ Cushing’s disease and had an operation a few years ago, my _________ was that everything would be OK. However, I was wrong. I had ongoing aches and pains, and _________ myself to a new life was difficult for me. I began to notice that I’d become a _________ person.

One day, I heard a discussion about gratitude by Dr Tony Evans. It _________ me and forced me to take a long, hard, honest look at myself. I have a (n) _________ spouse (配偶) and parents. I’d heard the stories of other people’s struggles with Cushing’s disease. Their spouses had left them and they didn’t have family to _________. I didn’t face any of these problems, yet I didn’t realize that.

Let me explain. When I was __________ by my own pity, my harvest in life was ruined, because everything I was __________ was negative. Since I started practicing gratitude, so many different doors of opportunity have opened up for me.
