Seventeen-year-old teenager, John Janson was honoured at the Lifesaver Awards last night for giving first aid on his neighbor after    1    shocking knife attack.

John    2    (study) in his room when he heard screaming. When he and his father rushed outside, they found Anne Slade, their neighbour, had been stabbed    3    ( repeated) with a knife. She was lying in her front garden    4    (bleed) heavily. It was John's quick action and knowledge of first aid    5    saved Ms. Slade's life. He immediately used    6    he could find on the spot to treat the most severe injuries    7    Ms. Slade's hands until the ambulance came. Before receiving their awards last night, John and nine other Life Savers    8    had saved the life of another attended a special reception yesterday    9    (host) by the Prime Minister. "I'm proud of what I did but I was just doing what I'd been taught," John said.

John's experience shows that a knowledge of first aid can make a real    10    (differ) in our daily life.

I was very frightened when    1    (wake)up in hospital last Thursday. I fainted in my PE class because of low blood sugar levels. Fortunately, I was rushed to hospital    2    (immediate). The doctor helped me and I made a full recovery within two days. My experience proves what a bad idea    3    is to try to lose weight by skipping meals. Now I know this extreme weight-loss method has serious side    4    (effect). Now I also understand that being healthy and    5    (energy)is more important than being slim.

From now    6     , I will pay more attention to my health rather than my weight. I will eat a    7    (balance)diet to make sure I have enough nutrition. Exercising regularly is also    8    important part of a healthy lifestyle. My doctor tells me that it will help me concentrate better in class.
