1 . 阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。

Two men, both seriously ill, occupied the same hospital room. One man was allowed to sit up in his bed for an hour each afternoon. His bed was next to the room’s only window. The other man had to spend all his time lying on his back. The men talked for hours continuously. They spoke of their wives and families, their homes, their jobs, their experience in the army, where they had been on vacation. Every afternoon when the man in the bed by the window could sit up, he would pass the time by describing to his roommate all the things he could see outside the window. The man in the other bed began to live for those one-hour periods when his world would be broadened and enlivened(有活力的)by all the activities and colors of the world outside.

The window overlooked(俯瞰)a park with a lovely lake. Ducks and swans played on the water while children sailed their model boats. Young lovers walked arm in arm among flowers of every color. Grand old trees made everything around more attractive, and a fine view of the city skyline could be seen in the distance. As the man by the window described all this in detail, the man on the other side of the room would close his eyes and imagine the picturesque(如画的)scene. One warm afternoon the man by the window described a parade(列队)passing by. Although the other man couldn’t hear the band, he could see it in his mind’s eye as the gentleman by the window pictured it with descriptive words.

Days and weeks passed. One morning, the nurse arrived to bring water for their baths only to find the lifeless body of the man by the window, who had died peacefully in his sleep. She was saddened and called the hospital attendants to take the body away. Later, the other man asked if he could be moved next to the window. The nurse was happy to make the switch, and after making sure he was comfortable, she left him alone. Finally, he would have the joy of seeing it for himself.

2 . 阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事

Many years ago, there was a king who often thought, “Nothing good can come to a nation whose people only complain and expect others to solve their problems.” One day, he had an idea. Early one morning, the king disguised(伪装) himself and went to a local village. He placed a large stone in the middle of the main street and hid a diamond under the stone .Then he hid behind a huge maple tree and watched.

The first person down the street was a milkman with his cart. He crashed into the stone, spilling the milk everywhere. “What fool put this stone here?”he shouted. He picked himself up and angrily went away. After a while, a group of women came along, each balancing a pot of water on her head. One woman tripped over the stone and her water pot went crashing to the ground. She picked herself up and walked away in tears. Neither she nor her friends thought about moving the stone out of the road.

The king watched all day as many people complained about the stone, but he found nobody making an attempt to move it. The king was in despair(绝望). “Is there no one in his village who feels any responsibility to keep their neighbours from harm?”

3 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。续写的词数应为150左右。

One day when I was 12, my mother gave me an order: I was to walk to the public library, and borrow at least one book for the summer. This was one more weapon for her to defeat my strange problem, my inability to read.

In the library, I found my way into the “Children’s Room”. I sat down on the floor and pulled a few books off the shelf at random. The cover of a book caught my eye. It presented a picture of a beagle. I had recently had a beagle, the first and only animal companion I ever had as a child. He was my secret sharer, but one morning, he was gone, given away to someone who had the space and the money to care for him. I never forgot my beagle.

There on the book’s cover was a beagle which looked identical to my dog. I ran my fingers over the picture of the dog on the cover. My eyes ran across the title, Amos, the Beagle with a Plan. Unknowingly, I had read the title. Without opening the book, I borrowed it from the library for the summer.

Under the shade of a bush, I started to read about Amos. I read very, very slowly with difficulty. Though pages were turned slowly, I got the main idea of the story about a dog who, like mine, had been separated from his family and who finally found his way back home. That dog was my dog, and I was the little boy in the book. At the end of the story, my mind continued to the final scene of reunion, on and on, until my own lost dog and I were, in my mind, running together.

Paragraph 1:

My mother's call returned, me to the real world. I suddenly realized something.

Paragraph 2:

And years later, she was proud that her son had read thousands of books, and was awarded a PhD in literature.

Monday started out great.I woke up on time, ate breakfast and did some last minute studying for my first hour math test.I was confident of getting good grades. Then I left my house.Ten minutes later,I sat by my friends on the bus.We were busily chatting about how we spent our weekend when,THUMP!Ryan tripped over someone’s foot and fell onto the floor between the two rows of seats.

Everyone on the bus laughed crazily.Ryan picked himself up and made his way to an empty seat.He tried to laugh with us,but his face was red with embarrassment. The rest of the morning flew by.I did well in my math test.I read two more chapters of To Kill a Mockingbird in English class. It wasn’t long before the lunch bell sounded.I met my friends from the cheerleading team in the dining hall. Then I couldn’t help but notice Ryan a few tables over, sitting alone. He caught me looking.I smiled at him quickly and turned away.

When we finished eating, we headed out to the courtyard to practice a cheer we wanted to do at that night’s football game. After a little practice, we nailed the cheer,so we decided we only needed to go through it one last time.Again, just like the rest of my day so far,the cheer was going great.I raised my leg for one last toe touch.RIIIPPP!I felt my jeans split down the middle of my backside.

I froze.I didn’t know what to do but stayed still. Then I heard people laughing, and I saw them pointing.Trying to cover myself with my hands,I tried to laugh too,but I felt tears began to escape from my eyes.

5 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。续写的词数应为150左右。

Sally had anxiety disorder trouble that made her fail to speak in social situations. I’m a nurse and use Bella to help children in my community, to bring them comfort and confidence the way only a dog can. I thought back to the day when I’d first brought Bella to the school.

That morning in January, her teacher led us to a room. “Sally hasn’t spoken outside her home in two years,” she told me. “Her parents have taken her to doctors, but nothing has worked. ” A little girl stood shyly just inside the doorway. Her eyes brightened when she noticed my dog.

“This is Bella.” I said. “She does tricks. Would you like to see?”

Sally nodded. I motioned with my hand. Bella lay down and then rolled over. Sally’s eyes lit up. I showed Sally the hand signals for various commands. She was a natural with Bella, maybe because she couldn’t rely on the spoken word herself. Bella sensed that and responded. Soon Sally was able to put Bella through her paces all on her own. I could see her standing taller, more sure of herself each time we met.

One morning in March when she was working with Bella, I heard a tiny voice, barely a whisper, “Good dog. " Sally didn't take her eyes off Bella, but I wanted to jump for joy. Sally spoke a little more each week, only to Bella at first, but then to me. Later, she started giving voice commands with her hand signals and her confidence rose.

Now, five-year-old Sally stood nervously in front of her kindergarten class, with Bella, my trained dog, sitting calmly by her side. All the eyes of her classmates were focused on Sally. They were waiting for her to speak. It was June—only one week of school left—but they had never heard her voice. Not once.

7 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。 续写的词数应为150左右。

As a father, I was always seeking for opportunities to teach my son how to balance risk with freedom.

Last month, I bought four little chicks. I decided to make a beautiful coop (鸡笼) for them.

In the next few weeks, I, together with my son Gordon, spent all our spare time in the garage. Finally, the coop was finished.

While admiring his well-made handwork, Gordon suddenly raised his head and asked,

“Dad, shall we lock the chicks in the coop all the time? I am afraid they will be attacked by some fierce animals or become someone’s chicken soup?” Seeing his anxious look, I cracked a smile and asked, “Do you want to be trapped in a limited room or have the freedom to get around?” Hesitant for a while, he murmured, “Freedom, of course.” “Chicks will also think so.” Therefore, our chicks were often seen chasing around in the lawns (草坪), digging for bugs in the bushes and laying eggs in the yard.

Yesterday, we needed to go downtown to shop for food supply after lunch. Knowing that the chicks wouldn’t go very far, we left home with them running around the lawn. When we got back, the first thing Gordon did was to check on his chicks. There were only three chicks in the yard. Their feathers were no longer fair and smooth but dirty and tangled (乱糟糟的). Hearing our steps, they jumped to their feet and scattered in all directions, seeming to have just experienced a terrifying disaster. Worse still, Pecky, Gordon’s favourite chick was nowhere to be found.

We searched the yard inch by inch and found some feathers littering the yard. Seeing this, Gordon’s eyes got watery. I picked Gordon up and comforted him. As we began to accept the fact that we were now a three-chick family, we heard it---a soft clucking (咯咯声) sound under a bush.

Para 1: I put Gordon down and we looked under the bush.

8 . 阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。

Emily White came to the world 17 years ago, with so many birth problems in her body. Some of her organs, bones and muscles were out of shape. No one expected her to survive long. She did make it but with her strange body figure, everyone could recognize her, even from a distance.

In her hometown, a yearly outdoor performance was held in the school auditorium(礼堂). It had been performed for so many years and actually had become one of the most important events of the Christmas season for many of the town's people.

Many people tried out each year for it, but so many were turned away. It can only include the most excellent people in the field.

Emily had a beautiful singing voice. Last year she went to Mrs. Owens- her music teacher to ask to join in the performance. Without letting her sing, Mrs. Owens took a glance at Amy's body and said, "Child, you are just not suitable. Everyone would stare at you and that would make you uncomfortable. It would make them uncomfortable, too.”

Without singing a single note, Emily was sent back through the door of the choral room. Hurt and upset, she decided never to try out again. But Mrs. Owens then retired.

This year, there came a new music teacher, Mr. Butler. He heard about Emily and suggested that she have a try.

Emily didn't want to be rejected again, so she hesitated about it. As Emily struggled, the door was pushed open and Mr. Butler called, “Emily, you're next." Kind of nervous as she was, Emily did as Mr. Butler told her to. Mr. Butler sat by the piano to keep Emily company. When Emily finished her testing performance, she thanked Mr. Butler and knew the result would be posted on the door of the choral room the next day.

Emily couldn't sleep that night. She tossed and turned in bed one thousand times. She was suffering from the feelings that she didn't fit and the great need to be accepted. By the next morning, her stomach was even in pain due to stress.

Jack, a clerk at the local bank, was wandering alone on the street. It was a cold, silent winter night. Jack had sold everything he had, and he had tried his best to borrow money from all the people and banks he could. But the real world is cruel. A large amount of money was still needed. To Jack, it would mean a great deal of suffering to see his wife die without any help. "I have only one option left," Jack said to himself. Then he went to the bank, his workplace, again. For several days, he observed the bank and planned a theft.

The next day, he went to work as usual. Everything seemed normal: he joked with his workmates and helped his clients as he always did. But no one noticed that he had brought a bigger suitcase to work, instead of the small one he always carried. At 5:00 pm, the bank closed, and the clerks and the guards had all gone home. However, at that moment, Jack was in the bathroom, He first cut the lines of the alarms and monitors with tools from his new suitcase. He was all too familiar with the equipment since he had been working there for 8 years and had been studying the security system for the past 30 days.
