Growing up, I was lucky to have parents which taught me lessons by how they lived each day. I remember walking to a nursing home with my father on one Saturday. When we arrive there, I asked him for money for the collection box. My father reached into her pocket and handed me a coin. I was embarrassing by the amount of money he gave me so I asked him for more. In reply, he taught me an valuable lesson: What is importance is the reason for giving, not how many money you give. Years late, I found out my father didn’t have any spare money give at the time, but he always gave what he could.

Humor is not only considered as one of the most valuable quality, but necessary for a delightful life. You can clear sense humor when staying with Joe. He is kind but overweight, who brings him much trouble. Once after class, one classmate asked for him why he was so fat. Both of us stopped to stare at him, wonder how he would answer the question. He said with a calm voice. “Well, because my size must large enough to hold my large heart of love.” Hearing his words, we burst into laughter. Not only did Joe took the joke, but he managed to deal with the embarrassed situation.

7 . We’ve all heard the stories of an actor’s struggles before a career breakthrough: living a hard life, working part-time, being a couch potato before getting that major role. Shelby, the star of “A Dog’s Way Home”, has an unfortunate tale that could top them all. Before her big break, she was living in a landfill, rooting through garbage for her next meal.

Shelby’s big break came in April 2017, when animal-control officer Megan Buhler was driving in Cheatham County, Tennessee. Out on an unrelated call, Buhler spotted and approached what she recalled was a noticeably scared puppy emerging from the dump. “I knelt down and just said, ‘Oh, come here, baby,’” said Buhler. “She was so scared, but she came right up to me, and I was able to put her in my truck.” They headed to the county animal shelter, where the staff began calling the new resident Baby Girl.

Buhler and others didn’t know that 3,200 kilometers away, Hollywood was looking for a dog to play Bella in a film written by Cathryn Michon. The find-a-Bella job went to freelance trainer Teresa Ann Miller. Her mission was to search shelters nationwide for a dog that could play Bella. One day, Miller spotted Baby Girl’s adoption photo. “Honestly, it was a really good picture, and she was flat-out smiling,” Miller said. Then she met Baby Girl, and assessed her on personality and the ability to respond to simple commands. After assessment, she adopted Baby Girl from the shelter, renamed her Shelby and took her to California for training. Miller and Shelby had trained for just over three months before filming began. Then they were together each day on the set.

Most of the film’s reviews have praised Shelby’s performance. Variety made the comments “an amazing dog, perfect performance!”

Shelby has come a long way from the garbage dump. But Buhler said when she saw Shelby recently she just needed only a second to compare the movie star with the dog she found from piles of trash. “She’s exactly the same,” Buhler said.

It took place in a teacher’s family. One day, Ben was playing basketball in the living room after school, when he accidentally threw the ball at a vase sitting on the shelf. The vase dropped to the floor and a large piece broke off. What made Ben more upset was that the vase was not a common decoration but an antique (古董), which was handed down through generations from the 18th century. It was also his mother’s favourite possession. To cover his terrible action, the terrified boy glued the pieces together hurriedly and put the vase back to its place.

As the mother herself dusted the vase every day, she naturally noticed the cracks (裂纹) that evening. To her surprise, the repair work was actually very good. At dinner time, she asked her boy if he broke the vase. Fearing punishment, the suddenly inspired boy said that a neighbour’s cat jumped in from the window and he couldn’t drive it away no matter how hard he tried. It raced around the living room and finally knocked the vase off its shelf. His mother was quite clear that her son was lying, for all the windows were closed before she left for work each morning and opened after she returned. However, in the face of her son’s nervous eyes and the suspicious looks of the other family members, Ben’s mother remained calm. She realized she shouldn’t just simply blame and punish her son for lying. She came up with another idea.

Before going to bed, the boy found a note from his mother in his room, asking him to go to the study at once. The boy thought he would now be punished but, as he had already lied, he was determined to deny everything to the end, no matter how angry his mum became.

In the study, calmly bathed in the light, his mothers face showed no sign of anger. On seeing her son push open the door and cautiously enter, she took a chocolate box out of a drawer and gave him one.

The mother said, “This chocolate is a reward for your imagination: a window-opening cat!”

Now with some chocolates in hand, the boy’s bad attitude disappeared.

A friend of mine, named Jack, received an expensive car from his brother as a Christmas present. On Christmas Eve when Jack came out of his office, a street urchin (顽童), called Tom, was walking around the shining car.

“Is this your car, sir?” Tom asked. “Yes, my brother gave it to me for Christmas.” Jack answered.

Tom was surprised. “You mean your brother gave it to you and it cost you nothing. Sir, I wish.…” He hesitated (犹豫). Jack thought of course (路线), he knew what Tom wanted, but what Tom said surprised him greatly.

“I wish,” Tom went on, “that I could be a brother like that.”

Jack looked at Tom in surprise, and then he said again, “Would you like to take a ride (搭车) in my car?” “Oh, yes, I’d love to,” Tom answered. After a short ride, Tom turned and with his eyes shining, said, “Sir, would you mind driving in front of my house?”

Jack smiled a little. He thought he knew what Tom wanted. He wanted to show his neighbors that he could ride home in a big car. But Jack was wrong again.

“Will you stop where those two steps (台阶)are?” Tom asked.

He got out and ran up to the steps.

Jack got out and lifted the boy to the front seat of his car.

10 . When I first entered university, my aunt, who is an English professor, gave me a new English dictionary.
