1 . Abandoned by a breeder (饲养动物的人) at only eight weeks old because she was deaf, Puppy had a tough start in life. But less than a month after being saved, the little dog is learning to recognize sign language commands with her new family.
Marie Williams, 41, and her partner Mark Morgan, 43, who are themselves both deaf, adopted the little dog from the animal charity The Blue Cross. The couple and their three sons Liam, 16, Lewis, 13, and Owen, 5, who have normal hearing, are teaching the loving dog sign language commands, including instructions for sit, come and roll over.
Marie Williams, from West Mersea, Essex, said, “We were thinking about getting a dog but when we saw Puppy was deaf we just could not believe it. She was so beautiful and the fact that she was deaf just made us fall in love with her even more—we knew that she would fit right into our family. ”
The distinctive dog, who has one blue eye, was dirty, sick and nervous when she was abandoned by a breeder who decided the deaf dog would not make him any money.
Miss Williams said, “I feel so angry that someone abandoned her because in his eyes she was not ‘perfect’. It goes to show with a little effort it is easy to cope with a deaf puppy—she has already learned the signs for several basic commands. I want everyone to see how well we have bonded with Puppy and how well she is getting on—she is so special to us. ”
Julie Stone, manager of The Blue Cross, said, “It was amazing to see how Marie, Mark and their children immediately bonded with Puppy and how they knew just how to get her attention. They are a brilliant match and Puppy has found the perfect home where I know that she will get the love she deserves. ”
The Blue Cross, which depends entirely on public donations, rehomes thousands of dogs, cats, horses, and small animals every year through its network of adoption centers.

The news got around that the 2026 Winter Olympics would be hold in my hometown. It struck to me how I learned skating when I was child. At 7, I began to devote myself to skating, like all my friend. At the beginning, it was extremely tough for me to keep my balance. I always fall over on the ground, as a result of it I thought I had no talent for skating. So I gradually lost confidence and became impatient. The more impatient I was, the more terrible I did. I was about to give up while my father came to my assistance. With him encouraged me, I restored confidence and stood up again. As I practiced skating, she always helped me and put forward some specific advice. Eventually, I made it.
It was time to go home. “Remember to work on your class speeches for homework,” Miss Walker said as everyone started talking and packing their school bags. Jenny felt sick. She hated having to read aloud in class. She was sure everyone would get really bored with listening to her. Once, when Jenny was reading out her holiday diary, Lee was even looking at his watch, a silver and blue one which seemed just magical.
Jenny watched Lee walk ahead of her as they left school. He seemed so clever, and he had a certain sort of shining confidence. He was just one of those people who were good at everything. Jenny sighed. As she turned the corner, she saw Lee’s watch lying right in the middle of the path.
Jenny picked it up and wanted to return it to Lee, but she couldn’t catch up with him. When she arrived home, Jenny put it on, thinking about the magic. She was surprised that it fitted so well. She walked to the mirror and started practicing her speech. Words just flooded out of her. “I’m going to talk about swimming. I have been lucky. I’ve won lots of competitions. But when I’m in a race, I’m not really thinking about winning. I’m just loving the feeling of being in the water…” Jenny laughed with excitement. She walked across the room. She suddenly seemed to have a certain sort of confidence. Turning back to the minor, Jenny saw a flash of light from the watch in the glass. The flashes of silver seemed almost magical. So maybe Lee’s watch really did have something magical.
The next day, as the lesson began, Miss Walker ask cd who was going to be brave and go first. Nobody moved, Jenny slowly raised her arm. Before Miss Walker could say something, there was a shout “She’s stolen in y watch!” Lee said angrily. “It went missing at school yesterday.”

4 . I have a neighbour we call “Happy”．I have never seen her angry at anything and never heard her say a harsh (苛刻的) word to anyone or about anyone.
Happy and her husband Ben, 70，have a huge garden. They spent many happy hours together working on it. Most of the neighbours watched interestingly as Ben doubled the size of their garden. As the cost of food climbed faster than Ben’s beans，we all wished we also had such a large garden. As the rest of us spent our dollars at the market，Happy could be seen picking beans in her back yard.
