One afternoon after school, Mary and her brother, Keith, were eating at a cafe near their home. That afternoon, they had to share their table with another person. Giving Kitchen was born out of crisis in 2012. On December 21 of that year, Ryan Hidinger was diagnosed(诊断) with cancer and given six months to live. He and his wife, Jen, had moved to Atlanta, Georgia, with a dream of starting a restaurant. They had hosted a supper club for a few years as a way of bonding with their new community. After Ryan’s diagnosis, that community made all the difference. A fundraiser set up to support the Hidingers was meant to raise $25,000 but accumulated nearly $300,000! A Turning-point Party
The cold snow was falling as Kelly struggled home from school in December. How much she hated the snow---and everything else about Pinetree, Wyoming, America. How much she missed Thailand! “I hate it here! I want to go home!” Kelly thought.

They were selecting colorful candies and gluing them to their own houses, Wow, she loved making things. For this part of the party, she could be herself. She decided to decorate her cottage like one of the golden temples of Thailand. As she was making it, Jennifer wondered how she did it. The others joined staring at Kelly with admiration, Kelly felt a warm glow. Maybe I could fit in here-----a little, she thought.
