Khan Lab School is bringing back the one-room model to teach young students in Mountain View, California. The school is     1     lab for an experimental kind of learning. Silicon Valley,     2     (know)for its technology companies, is also the birthplace of the school.

Students aged 5 to 15 attend the experimental Khan Lab School, which     3     (have)no grade levels and no homework. The students are in school from 8:30 in the morning until 6:00 in the afternoon. And, the school is open all year long, with small     4     (break)here and there.

The school is the idea of Salman Khan, the founder of Khan Academy. It’s famous for its     5     (amaze)educational videos. The videos on the Internet are     6     (actual)free and have millions of users around the world.

Khan     7     (start)Khan Lab School a few years ago because of the problems of the present education. He hopes to create a better learning model.

He said the one-room model lets the older students help younger students,     8     means the younger children get a lot of help. They get the help of the teacher and the older students.

Khan said students also learn the study material at their own speed through videos.     9     last, they get more attention through one-on-one discussions with teachers. They also learn by     10    (do)projects.

4 . Started in 1636, Harvard University is the oldest of the many colleges and universities in the United States. Yale, Princeton, Columbia and Dartmouth were opened soon after Harvard. They were all started before the American Revolution made the 13 colonies into states.

In the early years, these schools were much alike. Only young men attended colleges. All the students studied the same subjects, and everyone learned Latin, Greek and Hebrew. Little was known about science then, and no kind of school could teach everything that was known about the world. When the students graduated most of them became ministers or teachers.

In 1782, Harvard started a medical school for young men who wanted to become doctors. Later, lawyers could receive their training in Harvard's law school. In 1825, Harvard began teaching modern languages, such as French and German. as well as Latin and Greek. Soon it began teaching American history.

As knowledge increased, Harvard and other colleges began to teach many new subjects. Students were allowed to choose the subjects that interested them.

Special colleges for women were started. New state universities began to teach such subjects as farming, engineering and business. Today, there are many different kinds of colleges and universities. Most of them are divided into smaller schools that deal with special fields of learning. There is so much to learn that one kind of school cannot offer it all.

I’d like to talk about the school system in Australia today. The school system in Australia does depend on     1     you go to a private school or a public school. In the state I’m from, there are a lot of private schools, and generally they are single-sex high schools. The public high schools are generally     2     (mix). All of the private high schools insist that you should wear their school uniforms, and that might mean     3     (wear) a school tie and a school jacket.     4    , the public high schools often give you a     5     (choose) of whether you want to wear a uniform or not. The school classes generally start anywhere     6     8:30 and 9 o'clock in the morning and run     7     3:30 in the afternoon, and they’re followed by after-school     8     (active) like sports and music theater. The school year generally starts at the     9     (begin) of February, after our summer vacation, which lasts about six weeks around the Christmas period.

The only thing I don’t like about our school system is the idea of the difference in quality of education between the private and the public schools. It remains     10     (see) whether you can get a better education, even if you are in a private high school. Most of our public high schools are quite good.

6 . What will the future school look like is difficult to make clear, but most experts agree that the school will be electronic in the future .

" Present-day schools will no longer exist in the next century," says a report in The Age. "At that time, future schools will become community-style centers, which run seven days a week,24 hours a day. ” At the same time, computers will surely become a central part of the school in the future.

According to The Age, the distant learning will be popular and students will listen to teachers on computers. Going into classrooms on their computers, students will study at any time, which is very easy for them. However, it is necessary for students to go to the actual school in order to develop some social skills.

The Seashore Primary School is an imaginary school in the future created by the Education Department of Australia. At this school, all the teachers and students have laptop computers . Teachers check messages and call students back on a special telephone system and students use telephones to search for information or speak to their experts who teach their lessons. Besides, all the lessons are related to all sorts of subjects and all the students have their own learning plans created by teachers .

As one headmaster says, a laptop computer is students⁵ library, data storage （数据存储）as well as the bridge to a wider world. Technology has changed the emphasis of future learning. Thus, well pay more attention to the learning of kids rather than the teaching.
