文章大意:这是一篇新闻报道。文章主要介绍了一个青少年在游戏《我的世界》中重新创造宇宙的过程。

1 . A teenager has created “the entire known universe” in the popular computer game Mine craft over the course of two months. In the game’s creative mode, players can build structures using blocks.

Eighteen-year-old Christopher Slayton started by building the Earth. He used a globe to measure the exact location of every continent lo perfectly copy the planet. He went on to build planets, stars, galaxies and space gas.

In a video, Slayton explained that he started skydiving so he could see the planet from a different perspective, before using mathematical concepts to make sure that the universe was made to an accurate scale. In order to fit all of the planets in the universe into the simulation(模拟), every planet would need to be 700,000 times smaller.

Eventually, Slayton was working on structures that are much larger than the Earth, like the sun. He used the brightest blocks in the game to build the star, adding solar flares(光) to make it “feel alive”.

Building even larger structures―such as the Pillars of Creation, elephant trunks of interstellar gas and dust in the Eagle Nebula—took Slayton two days to simply make the colors accurate, before painting the stars and their shine in the background.

Many other impressive builds have been made in Mine craft. In 2020, a player created a life-size recreation of the Earth, bypassing the game’s built-in height limit to recreate Mount Everest and the Grand Canyon at their full scale.

The game is also a powerful learning tool for geography, history and even finance. “Mine craft exposes children to complicated financial systems,” Teacher Gaming co-founder Joel Levin told The Independent. “Perhaps the most effective experiences come from having teachers get out of the way and letting the students play on their own. With a bit of coaching, this type of experience can lead to amazing conversations about digital citizenship, online identity and responsibility,” Levin said.

文章大意:本文是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了一款新的游戏,并介绍了该游戏的设计、特色以及目的等,作者认为这款游戏能够帮助玩家了解更多和野生动物保护相关的知识。

2 . Tasked with photographing one of the world’s rarest big cats, you go deep into the jungle of Southeast Asia and set up a camera trap. Back at base camp, you look through the images it captures, identifying monkeys, otters and finally what you’ve been searching for: the mysterious clouded leopard.

Now you can engage with all this without having to leave the comfort of your own home. A new mobile game Unseen Empire turns one of the largest-ever wildlife camera trap studies into a playable experience. It is based on an ongoing, decade-long camera trap study by Professor David Macdonald and his team at the Wildlife Conservation Research Unit at Oxford University. The game is divided into different levels, each level taking place in a different location around the world. As you progress through the game, you can update your camera equipment to capture better images and unlock new locations to explore.

Unseen Empire uses a significant number of real photographs from the study and allows players to identify species within this rapidly degrading environment. Players take on the role of a researcher in a real scientific study and the photographs can help them better understand wildlife conservation science. To understand the clouded leopard’s habitat, 6 million camera trap photographs captured in the study are used in the game. They are not only attractive but there’s something just incredibly raw and real about capturing these animals’ entirely candid (抢拍的) moments.

While the game is free and doesn’t generate donations, the hope is that Unseen Empire can provide new ways for people to engage with endangered animals. “If you don’t have any encounter or experience with elements of nature, then what motivation can you have to take a personal interest in it?” says Macdonald.

“I would like to think that engagement with this game will lead to a feeling of value, which will affect how they think about nature,” says Macdonald. “So, in that sense, we’d like to be part of a revolution on how people view the role of humanity, alongside the wider environment.”

1. What is the purpose of the first paragraph?
A.To show love of photography.B.To explain the rules of a game.
C.To share adventure experiences.D.To introduce a new mobile game.

A.The approach to setting up camera traps.
B.The present situation of wildlife conservation.
C.The reason for using real photographs in the game.
D.The way of making the photographs more appealing.
3. What can we learn about Unseen Empire from the last two paragraphs?
A.It is well received and highly profitable.
B.It raises funds for the research into wildlife.
C.It affects people’s attitude towards man and nature.

4. What is a suitable title for the text?

Smart Toys that Spy on Kids

Americans are becoming more and more alert of the ways their personal information is being collected on the Internet. A recent national survey found that 72% of respondents are not sure whether Facebook is using the data it collected on them in a(n)       1     way. And 70% of respondents said they believed their smartphones are being monitored in ways they haven’t agreed to. That doubt is     2    . Concerns about personal privacy are on the rise all the time.

But adult gift-givers may not realize that some children’s toys are collecting personal data, too. Toys with cameras, mobile apps, and requirements to set up online accounts that store data about the toy and its user all     3     privacy concerns.

Toys that     4     Bluetooth connections, for example, could be sensitive to being hacked from outside the home, perhaps     5     the child to inappropriate content or gathering sensitive info. These toys can be wonderfully     8     and even educational, such as an interactive globe that speaks to children about a country as they touch it on the map.
