文章大意:这是一篇记叙文。文章主要讲述了英国的一个男孩非常喜欢英国的布莱克浦大厦。通过他自己的努力,他成为了该大厦的代言人。

2 . Some little boys are addicted to Legos. Others can’t get enough of dinosaurs. But it is Blackpool Tower in England that has captured one 6-year-old’s imagination.

The Blackpool Tower was built in 1894. It is twice as tall as the Statue of Liberty in NYC. Now Charlie Barratt has achieved his dream by becoming the voice of the attraction’s lift (电梯). Charlie did a project about the tower at school, recording his own version of the lift’s existing speech. In the voice-over, Charlie welcomes visitors to the attraction. He also offers interesting facts about the tower. One of his teachers contacted Kenny Mew, the tower’s operation manager, and told him about Charlie’s love for the 518-foot (157 meter) structure.

Mew told BBC Radio Lancashire, “His school reached out to me and said they had this young boy who was passionate about Blackpool Tower and had actually recorded the lift speech and I was thinking to myself: how’s he done that? I played it back and he had the speech word for word that we’d had recorded already in the lift and it just sounded amazing. And we thought we were going to give Charlie the opportunity to do it. He was absolutely brilliant. He’s done an amazing job, and we’re really proud of what he’s done.”

Charlie was then invited into a professional recording studio to perform his version and his mum, Wendy, is as thrilled as he is. She told the BBC, “He adores the tower.” Wendy first took Charlie to visit the tower when he was a baby. She said he loved it “from the minute he can walk”.

Now Charlie is the voice of the attraction’s lift. As well as the lift, there are plans in progress for Charlie to lend his voice to other areas in the future.

文章大意:这是一篇记叙文。文章主要讲述了剪纸艺术家史秦岭从事剪纸的经过以及取得的成就。

8 . To this paper-cutting artist, Shi Qinling, scissors are like what brushes are to painters, or what pens are to writers. Always having a pair of scissors on her also allows her to create art whenever inspiration hits. “Some people like to pen their feelings in diaries. I prefer to cut them out,” says the 35-year-old, who is currently working at the Fenglin community cultural activity center in Shanghai.

Shi developed an interest in handicraft when she was a child who often found herself alone at home. Out of boredom, she would play with paper, folding and cutting them into different shapes. This interest later developed into a passion, one that she decided to pursue by majoring in arts and crafts design during her time in university.

After graduation, however, she found herself working at a ship design company as she was unsure about what she wanted to do with her future. About a year later, the Shanghai Arts and Crafts Research Institute offered her a position in their paper-cutting department. Realizing that she still had a love for the craft, she switched her career.

In 2010, she started learning paper-cutting from Xi Xiaoqin, the national inheritor of the intangible cultural heritage for paper-cutting. Three years later, one of her works, The Fighting Fish, won third place at the Baihua Cup, a competition for Chinese arts and crafts. Six years later, Shi was named a Shanghai paper-cutting inheritor and become the city’s “youngest inheritor” of the paper-cutting heritage.

A.She was at a loss what to do in the future.B.She majored in ship design in university.

3. What does the underlined word “switched” in Paragraph 3 probably mean?
A.Adopted.B.Hatched.C.Changed.D.Reformed.
4. What can we infer from Shi’s experience?
A.Interest is the best teacher.B.Pride goes before a fall.
C.It’s never too late to learn.D.All roads lead to Rome.

文章大意:这是一篇记叙文。主要讲述了作者和好友Barbara热爱游泳,已经共同游泳50多年的事。

9 . Barbara, 70, and me, at 71, have swum together for at least 50 years. We swim in a quiet cove (小海湾). It’s home to seagulls, a duck or two, and kayaks (独木舟) on occasion. The difficult summer drought of 2021 brought a burning sun that warmed the water. As the drought eased and the water cooled in late August, we decided to keep swimming. We have both read Bonnie Tsui’s Why We Swim, a fine book about cold-water swimming. We challenged ourselves to swim for as long as possible through September and into October.

I have long loved swimming, though the fear of being seen as fat has dogged me. I am one of those female bodies poorly displayed in bathing suits. Cold-water swimming deepened my sense of well-being and let me use my body. It became a ritual Barbara and I embraced as swimming sisters. When she returned to the United States immediately after our Canadian Thanksgiving, I did not know how I could continue our cold-water tradition. I wasn’t prepared to freeze alone.

But, I had to swim; there were larger commitments I should stick to. In the summer, we planned to cross from the cove to an island across the lake. I had to stay fit. We also planned to host a cold-water swimming race for locals in the fall. We would make it an annual event, improving our strength and endurance (耐力) so that, in our 80s, we might swim through October and into November.

With these plans in mind, I joined my local city pool. I had not been in a public pool for about 30 years. But my body said swim, my brain said swim and my heart, could not let go. So I went anyway.

I am swimming. I am alive to my love of the water, alive to my promise for the spring and the summer that will come. I intend to step back into the lake in May, and through September and October with Barbara. We are perfectly matched in our devotion, and increasingly aware of the miracle of being able-bodied enough to share the cold-water wonder side by side.

1. Why was the book Why We Swim mentioned in the first paragraph?
A.It guided the author to learn to swim.
B.It analyzes the advantages of swimming.
C.It is the author’s favorite book about swimming.
D.It partly contributed to the author and Barbara’s common interest.
2. What does the underlined word “commitments” probably mean in paragraph 3?
A.Promises .B.Preparations .C.Requirements .D.Opportunities .
3. What effort did the author make to achieve her goals?
A.She went to a gym to improve her strength.
B.She became a member of the local public pool.
C.She swam across the lake to the island on her own.
D.She participated in a local cold-water swimming race.
4. What is the author’s purpose in writing this article?
A.To describe her friendship with Barbara.
B.To express her passion for cold-water swimming.
C.To recommend people to go swimming to keep fit.
D.To explain how she overcame her fear of swimming in public places.
