Once upon a time, there was a small village in the heart of a big jungle on a land far away. Surrounded by mountains and in the shade of green trees, the villagers lived a happy life. All of them were used to their robotic daily tasks and none of them had the imagination or the will to try something new, except for one girl named Hannah,

Hannah was an adventurous spirit with an imagination far beyond her time. She loved to explore and would spend hours in the woods looking for new things. She loved to create stories in her head and used to imagine herself as one of her characters. One afternoon, when Hannah was on one of her adventures, she came upon an abandoned cottage. The cottage looked very old in its condition. The door was barely hanging and the wood was chipping away. Even though Hannah’s mother had strictly warned her not to go wandering in abandoned places , her curiosity got the best of her. She tip-toed (蹑手蹑脚) slowly to the door and slowly opened it and she was left shocked.In front of Hannah was a room full of books! Books shining in the dust, basking in the warm sunlight just waiting to be explored. Hannah’ s excitement was visible on her face as she jumped up and down with joy!

Hannah became excited as she realized that she had found a hidden treasure. She knew in her heart that she had to read all of them so she quickly got to work. She dusted the books, the shelves,and what was left of the furniture. Hannah swept and dusted all day long until she realized that it was dark and she had to go back to her home. But she couldn’t get herself to leave without at least reading one. So Hannah picked two books and decided to read them at her home.

She met her friends on the way home who were curious about what Hannah was carrying. In her excitement, Hannah shared everything with her friends. She was thinking that her friends will share her excitement but instead, she heard roars of laughter!

The Science of Happiness

Kate is a bright young woman with an intense focus on academics and a long-term goal of becoming a neuroscientist (神经系统科学家). Her path is charted very carefully each day according to schedule. She meets after school with the Brain Club, a group she started that discusses neuroscience and trades academic papers like baseball cards. It’s the kind of group you would never imagine in high school, which is mature beyond their years and led by their own initiative.

It would seem there was no room in Kate’s schedule for fun, let alone helping others. But then she found out about an elementary school hit hard by the pandemic, then inflation, and now a recession (衰退). It sits in the middle of a working-class neighborhood and most of parents were tired out by working physically demanding jobs from dawn to dark. Most families were doing the best but they could just put a few groceries on the table.

Halloween was approaching, and many of the families didn’t participate because they lacked costumes and couldn’t afford to give out candy themselves. So Kate called the headmaster of the elementary school. She was told the families wanted their kids to have fun on Halloween, but they also needed more books in the home.

So Kate went to work. She began with the Brain Club and then branched out to other clubs. They would sponsor a trick-or-treat event featuring games, candy and book giveaways. It was a huge organizational challenge—one that only a very organized person could handle.So Kate put her smarts to use. She arranged for groups of her fellows to decorate their cars and create games. She found a DJ and rounded up boxes of costumes for the kids. She even got the local police to decorate their cruiser (巡逻车). And she went to work getting kids books donated.

6 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

There are a number of volunteer organizations out there that deal in things like clothing donation and the sale of remaining books. Retired schoolteacher Cathy McAllister has been a member of such an organization, VNSA, since 2012.Her duties in this regard involve working throughout the year to help prepare the books for their February sale and acting as personnel chair for the sale itself. This means that she helps coordinate(协调)all the other volunteers that help out before, during, and after the event.

It was before the 2019 book sale and Cathy once again found herself sitting among a towering pile of books and sorting through them to ensure that they would be in go0d enough condition to resell. As she was sorting, she came upon a book. The slightly broken book was in fair condition but it was one of four copies she had already found, and she a saved three of those already. The others had been much more gently used as well. Though she didn't like doing it, she had done this long enough to know that the only remaining choice was to throw it into the pile for repurposing.

A greedy book lover herself, Cathy felt guilty about throwing away a perfectly good book. Before she threw it away, she decided to check for more serious damage inside that might justify her giving it up. She opened the cover and moved to fan through the pages when she noticed something unusual.

When she opened the cover, Cathy was surprised to see that a part had been hollowed out inside the book. It looked as though someone had taken an X-Acto knife and rather expertly hollowed out a significant space. What's more, the book's previous owner had chosen to hide something in that space. She looked down and saw that someone had hidden four packages in the space, each containing ten$100 bills. Cathy's first thought was that the bills were toy money that perhaps a kid had hidden inside as part of some childish game or something.

1.续写词数应为150左右;
