文章大意:本文是一篇议论文。人们在寻求疾病的治疗方法时往往会有多样的选择,本文围绕该选择哪种方式展开了讨论。

2 . Reasonable people should not have blind faith in the medical profession.     1     We have to check out the medicine we take. We have to ask for second and even third opinions. We must do some research. We have to use our common sense and be informed about our health care.

While it is true that modern Western medicine has risks, we shouldn’t reject it totally.     2     Most people who get good medical care are healthier and live longer.

If this is the case why has “alternative” health care become so popular in North America and Europe? Often the fear of surgery motivates people to look for these alternatives. Many people think that these treatments will help even when the situation seems hopeless to Western doctors.     3     Surgeons perform dangerous surgery, but natural healers (治疗师) do not seem to give dangerous treatments. People don’t think alternative care would kill anyone by mistake.     4     No one wants to go to a doctor in a cold hospital clinic. Since some doctors don’t have a nice “bedside manner”, people like the attention they get from alternative healers.

5     All doctors and healers are human beings who can make mistakes. They can miss things and waste valuable time. No matter what happens, we have to think about all of the different options. Remember, there are millions of patients who are alive and well today because of “conventional” Western medicine.

A.Some alternative treatments are ineffective.
B.In addition everyone wants to be treated warmly.
C.We have to realize that there will be risks in almost any treatment.
D.Alternative treatments are attractive because they seem less harmful.
E.Patients who trust their doctors are more likely to follow treatment plans.
F.We all have to get more information about the treatments that we are given.
G.The harm to the patients usually comes from not getting medical treatment immediately.

4 . First aid is a crucial aspect of healthcare that can significantly save someone’s life or prevent further injury or illness. Knowing when to use first aid is essential so that proper measures are taken promptly.    1

Injuries and Accidents

One of the most common instances where first aid is required is in injuries and accidents.    2     In such situations, it is essential to provide immediate care to prevent further damage and ensure that the affected individual receives timely medical attention. Some of the initial steps in first aid for injuries include applying pressure to stop bleeding, immobilizing the affected area, and administering pain relief medication.

Cardiac Arrest (心脏停跳)

Another critical situation where first aid can make a difference is during a cardiac arrest. A cardiac arrest occurs when the heart stops functioning; immediate intervention is necessary.     3     The first step in such a situation is to call emergency services and start cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) until professional help arrives. Knowing how to perform CPR can be life-saving in such situations.

Choking and Suffocation (窒息)

Choking and suffocation are emergencies that can occur at any time, and immediate intervention is necessary to prevent further complications. If someone is choking, it is essential to act quickly.     4     Similarly, if someone is suffocating due to a blocked airway, it is vital to clear the obstruction and ensure that the person’s airway is open.

When to use first aid can significantly save someone’s life or prevent further injury or illness.    5     Call for emergency services, and provide immediate care until professional help arrives. Being prepared and trained in first aid can ensure the safety and well-being of those around us.

A.In any emergency, it is essential to remain calm.

文章大意:本文是一篇说明文。最近,科学家研究了18000多个癌症样本的完整基因信息。该研究让科学家们对导致癌症的破坏力有了一些了解,有助于癌症治疗。

5 . Recently, scientists have studied the full genetic (基因的) information of more than 18,000 cancer samples(样本). Their study is not the first to do such a complete genetic study of cancer samples. But no one has ever used such a large sample size. Researchers were able to study such a large number because of the improvements in technology.

Over 12,000 samples in the study care from patients gathered by Britain’s National Health Service. They were part of a project to study whole genomes from people with common cancers and rare diseases. The rest of the data came from existing cancer data sets. For the study, researchers looked at 19 different kinds of cancer in the human body. It identified 58 new pieces of evidence leading to the causes of cancer that could help doctors provide better treatment. Now doctors will have much more information to draw from when they look at individual cancers.

Andrew Futreal, a genomic expert at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, said the study gave scientists some knowledge of the destructive forces that cause cancer. Some arise because of problems within a person’s cells(细胞); others are caused by tobacco smoke or chemicals and so on. It also shows doctors what will probably happen over time when a patient develops a cancer with a certain gene changing pattern, and help doctors give earlier treatment and hopefully stop the developing disease.

To help doctors use the new information, researchers have developed a computer program that will let them find common gene changing patterns and seek out unusual ones. By this way, doctors could suggest a treatment based on a special pattern.

1. How did scientists conduct the study?
A.By making observation.B.By analyzing data.
C.By asking questions.D.By doing lab experiments.
2. What can be learned from paragraph 3?
A.The study actually provides little knowledge of cancer.
B.Doctors are unable to give earlier treatment of cancer.
C.There are physical and environmental causes of cancer.
D.There’s no hope for doctors to stop a cancer developing.
3. What is the best title for the text?
A.Various Reasons for Cancer
B.Fast Development of Technology
C.Computers Are Key to Medical Research
D.A Study of Genes Contributes to Cancer Treatment
4. Where does this text probably come from?
A.A health magazine.B.A chemistry paper.
C.A novel.D.A history book.

7 . Scientists developed vaccines (疫苗)against a new disease in less than 12 months. And yet,18 months after the first of these vaccines, against COVID-19, were put on the market, just 15% of people in developing countries have been fully vaccinated. Such unfairness costs lives and uncovers a long-standing problem that some countries have been forced to depend on others for life-saving science and technology. It is unacceptable, for example, that in Africa, a continent of 54 independent countries and 1.2 billion people, 99% of vaccines are from other countries.

The World Health Organization (WHO)is searching for a way to get vaccines to more people more easily.Last year, the WHO started a program called the mRNA vaccine technology center. The goal of the program is to develop and produce mRNA vaccines and treatments(for COVID-19 and other diseases) in developing countries from the technology used in developed countries highly successful COVID-19 vaccines.

More importantly, the cooperation (合作)between universities and companies based in developing countries is needed to realize the goal. On July 8th,the USA National Institutes of Health, where much of the research on mRNA vaccines was carried out, joined this program to help build vaccine technology centers in developing countries.

Besides the necessity of fairness, outbreaks would end sooner if every country could depend on its own defence. As Larry Brilliant,a scientist of the US National Institutes of Health who helps wipe out smallpox(天花),told Nature,“Fairness is often thought of as a burden(负担),but it is a strategic need in the battle against COVID-19.”

1. Why does the author mention Africa in paragraph 1?
A.To lead in the topic.
B.To show the unfairness in vaccines.
C.To stress the importance of vaccines.
D.To say thanks to the help from developed countries.
2. Why did the WHO start the program?
A.To make more people in developing countries get vaccines.
B.To build up a center to attract experts in developing vaccines
C.To get the technology used in successful COVID-19 vaccines,
D.To strengthen the cooperation between universities and companies.
3. What can we conclude from the last paragraph?
A.Fairness is a burden, so it is not necessary.
B.We’ll win the battle sooner if every country has its defence.
C.Fairness is necessary because it can stop COVID-19 from breaking out.
D.Wiping out smallpox is a strategic need in the battle against COVID-19.
4. What is the most suitable title for the text?
A.Why fairness is necessary?
B.How did WHO start the program?
C.How did scientists develop vaccines?
D.Why is a vaccine center for developing countries a must?

文章大意:本文是说明文。文章主要讲述科学家们正在研究将一些细菌和微型机器人结合起来的方法。

10 . It might seem like something from a science fiction movie, but scientists today are working on ways to combine certain kinds of bacteria with tiny robots. Scientists want to use these creations to improve the way we give medical treatment. They claim that drug therapy (疗法), disease diagnosis, and even surgery could be greatly aided by the use of nanobiotechnology. Nano-means “tiny”, and bio-means “life”. This tiny technology will use living organisms in combination with electronics.

Electronics makers already use tiny robots to build complex but very tiny circuits. Medical scientists want to use these robots to repair patients’ damaged organs or to direct medicines to affect specific cells. For example, tiny robots could be engineered to deliver chemotherapy (化疗) directly to cancer instead of to the entire body.

Existing electronics are the right size, but they lack practical use. Robots that can be built small enough to enter a person’s cells would be too tiny to move on their own. Therefore, scientists want to use tiny organisms such as bacteria to act as vehicles for the robots. The bacteria will be “driven” through the bloodstream by magnetic pulses (磁脉冲). Once the bacteria are in the correct locations, the robots will be able to do their jobs. In theory, these robots will cause less damage to the body than traditional methods of delivering medicines or performing surgeries.

Nanobiotechnology has yet to be put into practice, but many people already have concerns about its use. Some people worry about the ethic (道德标准) involved with controlling live organisms—and the possible side effects for their human hosts.

1. What does the second paragraph mainly talk about?
A.The application of tiny robots.B.The influence of tiny robots.
C.The operation of tiny robots.D.The origin of tiny robots.
2. Which of the following could be a future benefit of nanobiotechnology?
A.Cheaper medicine.B.Less harm to the body.
C.Longer life expectancy.D.Faster performance of surgeries.
3. According to the medical scientists, robots ______.
A.can locate he bacteria.B.are driven by medicine.
C.can act as vehicles.D.are carried by bacteria.
4. Where does the text probably come from?
A.A computer textbokB.A life magazine
