Being able to find high quality health care at an affordable price is an issue in many countries. In the United States, Walmart, a large chain store, is trying to help. It is offering something new to its employees: cutting the cost of a doctor’s appointment to only $4, but the patient and the doctor must meet electronically-over the Internet. This online service is called “telemedicine”.

Walmart is the latest major business in the United States to push its workers toward a high-tech way to be examined and treated by doctors. Thanks to telemedicine, people can talk with medical experts from the privacy of their own homes, often using a secure video connection.

Supporters say online visits make it easier for patients to see an expert or quickly find help for problems considered non-emergencies. Patients who have had medical treatments and cannot move around easily can use telemedicine for their follow-up visits. Also, people seeking help for mental health issues can benefit from the privacy that telemedicine gives.

But many people continue to go to the doctor’s office when they are sick. Compared with seeing a real doctor in person, some people may think the quality of telemedicine is not as good. Another reason why some adults may not use telemedicine services is trust. Tom Hill, aged 66, lives in the state of Indiana. He told The Associated Press he has no plans to ever use telemedicine. He does not buy anything online, let alone do something as personal as seeing a doctor. However, for some people — such as young people and busy students — telemedicine might be a good choice. It can cut down on the time away from work. It can also cut down on the cost of doctor visits.

4 . Directions: Read the following passage. Summarize the main idea and the main point(s)of the passage in no more than 60 words. Use your own words as far as possible.

Adventure Therapy

Adventure treatment is an experiential type of treatment and adopts adventure activities, tailored physical, psychological and social challenges, for therapy.

Adventure treatment is mainly for young people with a known dysfunction(功能障碍), disorder or disconnection. A tailored program will be offered to help them. Beyond treatment, it also has other purposes. One is for prevention. It is designed to keep people healthy, well and connected. For example, a community recreation program uses tailored adventure activities to help individuals who want to improve their health and well-being. Another is for early intervention. It is intervening early before the onset of a dysfunction, diagnosed difficulty, disorder or disconnection, for example with young people at risk of dropping out school. The last is for continuing care. It is designed to help people maintain their health and well-being.

The adventure treatment programs can be practiced in big cities, rural towns or remote villages. Indoor places with rope courses, urban parks or remoted wild spaces can be included. All depends on different intended target groups and program aims. For example, a program for socially isolated young people in the central desert of Australia will be likely different from one for mental health people within a medical institution in the USA. The former will likely emphasize cultural elements, unstructured time and use of open natural spaces, while the latter may emphasize clinical therapeutic input, structured interventions, and use of contrived adventure environments. Similarly, for customers to gain ground towards psychological wellness objectives, the advisor will choose comprehensive exercises.

Nowadays, adventure treatment is in an experimental stage, but many studies have noted that adventure therapy can profit young people a lot. It is also valuable for showing grown-ups positive methods for dealing with stress for pressure.

Traditional Chinese medicine, practiced for thousands of years, is having trouble maintaining traction in many parts of the country, said the president of a TCM hospital in Henan province.

“I have visited many counties across the country and found many of them do not have a single TCM hospital," said Pang Guoming of Kaifeng Hospital of TCM in Kaifeng. "In some counties, TCM hospitals use the old buildings of other hospitals, which have moved to bigger and new buildings."

"TCM is a unique health resource for China, and more effort should be made to promote it so it plays a bigger part in universal healthcare."

The development of TCM is expected to accelerate, with a guideline recently approved by the top leadership aimed at promoting innovation and the passing on of TCM knowledge.

Equal importance should be given to the development of TCM and Western medicine to promote their complementary (互补的)nature, said the guideline. More efforts should be made to improve the TCM service system, promote high-quality development of the TCM industry and boost TCM talent building, it said.

A widely known example is Tu Youyou, who won the 2015 Nobel Prize for the discovery of the artemisinin. Tu and her Chinese colleagues gained the insight that led to their discovery while reading a TCM prescription book that was more than 1,600 years old.
