Few people I know seem to have much desire or time to cook. Making Chinese     1    (dish) is seen as especially troublesome. Many westerners     2     come to China cook much less than in their own countries once they realize how cheap     3     can be to eat out. I still remember     4     (visit) a friend who’d lived here for five years and I     5    (shock) when I learnt she hadn’t cooked once in all that time.

While regularly eating out seems to     6    (become) common for many young people in recent years, it’s not without a cost. The obvious one is money; eating out once or twice a week may be     7    (afford) but doing this most days adds up. There could be an even     8     (high) cost on your health. Researchers have found that there is a direct link between the increase in food eaten outside the home and the rise in     9    (weigh) problems.

If you are not going to suffer this problem, then I suggest that the next time you go to your mum’s home     10     dinner, get a few cooking tips from her. Cooking food can be fun. You might also begin to notice the effects not only on your health but in your pocket.

5 . Many of us love July because it’s the month when nature’s berries and stone fruits are in abundance. These colourful and sweet jewels form British Columbia’s fields are little powerhouses of nutritional protection.

Of the common berries, strawberries are highest in vitamin C, although, because of their seeds, raspberries contain a little more protein (蛋白质), iron and zinc (not that fruits have much protein). Blueberries are particularly high in antioxidants (抗氧化物质). The yellow and orange stone fruits such as peaches are high in the carotenoids we turn into vitamin A and which are antioxidants. As for cherries (樱桃), they are so delicious who cares? However, they are rich in vitamin C.

When combined with berries of slices of other fruits, frozen bananas make an excellent base for thick, cooling fruit shakes and low fat “ice cream”. For this purpose, select ripe bananas for freezing as they are much sweeter. Remove the skin and place them in plastic bags or containers and freeze. If you like, a squeeze of fresh lemon juice on the bananas will prevent them turning brown. Frozen bananas will last several weeks, depending on their ripeness and the temperature of the freezer.

If you have a juicer, you can simply feed in frozen bananas and some berries or sliced fruit. Out comes a “soft-serve” creamy dessert, to be eaten right away. This makes a fun activity for a children’s party; they love feeding the fruit and frozen bananas into the top of the machine and watching the ice cream come out below.

1. What does the author seem to like about cherries?
A.They contain protein.B.They are high in vitamin A.
C.They have a pleasant taste.D.They are rich in antioxidants.
2. Why is fresh lemon juice used in freezing bananas?
A.To make them smell better.B.To keep their colour.
C.To speed up their ripening.D.To improve their nutrition.
3. What is “a juicer” in the last paragraph?
A.A dessert.B.A drink.
C.A container.D.A machine.
4. From which is the text probably taken?
A.A biology textbook.B.A health magazine.
C.A research paper.D.A travel brochure.

6 . 阅读下面短文,在空白处填入 1个适当的单词或括号内单词的正确形式。

There has been a recent trend in the food service industry toward lower fat content and less salt. This trend, which was started by the medical community(医学界)     1     a method of fighting heart disease, has had some unintended side     2    (effect) such as overweight and heart disease — the very thing the medical community was trying to fight.

Fat and salt are very important parts of a diet. They are required     3    (process) the food that we eat, to recover from injury and for several other bodily functions. When fat and salt     4    (remove) from food, the food tastes as if is missing something. As     5     result, people will eat more food to try to make up for that something missing. Even     6    (bad), the amount of fast food that people eat goes up. Fast food     7    (be) full of fat and salt; by     8    (eat) more fast food people will get more salt and fat than they need in their diet.

Having enough fat and salt in your meals will reduce the urge to snack(吃点心) between meals and will improve the taste of your food. However, be     9    (care) not to go to extremes. Like anything, it is possible to have too much of both,     10     is not good for the health.

Let's say you've decided you want to eat more healthfully. However, you don't have time to carefully plan menus for meals or read food     1    at the supermarket. Since you really    2    yourself to a healthier lifestyle, a little help would come in handy, wouldn't it? This is where a "choice architect" can help    3    some of the burden of doing it all yourself. Choice architects are people who organize the contexts in which customers make decisions. For example, the person who decides the layout of your local supermarket-including which shelf the peanut butter goes on, and how the oranges are piled up—is a choice architect.
Governments don't have to    4    healthier lifestyles through laws for example, smoking bans. Rather, if given an environment created by a choice architect-one that encourages us to choose what is best-we will do the right things. In other words, there will be designs that gently push customers toward making healthier choices, without removing freedom of choice. This idea combines freedom to choose with    5    hints from choice architects, who aim to help people live longer, healthier, and happier lives.
The British and Swedish governments have introduced a so-called "traffic light system" to     6    foods as healthy or unhealthy. This means that customers can see at a glance how much fat, sugar, and salt each product contains    7    by looking at the lights on the package. A green light     8    that the amounts of the three nutrients are healthy; yellow indicates that the customer should be    9    ; and red means that the food is high in at least one of the three nutrients and should be eaten in     10    . The customer is given important health information, but is still free to decide what to choose.

8 . Why do Americans struggle with watching their weight, while the French, who consume(消耗) rich food, continue to stay thin? Now a research by Cornell University suggests how life style and decisions about eating may affect weight. Researchers concluded that the French tend to(往往,倾向于) stop eating when they feel full. However, Americans tend to stop when their plate is empty or their favorite TV show is over.

According to Dr. Joseph Mercola, a health expert, the French see eating as an important part of their life style. They enjoy food and therefore spend a fairly long time at the table, while Americans see eating as something to be squeezed(挤出) between the other daily activities. Mercola believes Americans lose the ability to sense when they are actually full. So they keep eating long after the French would have stopped. In addition, he points out that Americans drive to huge supermarkets to buy canned and frozen foods for the week. The French, instead, tend to shop daily, walking to small shops and farmers’ markets where they have a choice of fresh fruits, vegetables, and eggs as well as high-quality meats for each meal.

After a visit to the United States, Mireille Guiliano, author of French Women Don’t Get Fat, decided to write about the importance of knowing when to stop rather than suggesting how to avoid food. Today she continues to stay slim and rarely goes to the gym.

In spite of(尽管) all these differences, evidence shows that recent life style changes may be affecting French eating habits. Today the rate of obesity — or  extreme overweight — among adults is only 6%. However, as American fast food gains acceptance and the young reject(拒绝) older traditions, the obesity rate among French children has reached 17% — and is growing.

1. In what way are the French different from Americans according to Dr. Joseph Mercola?
A.They go shopping at supermarkets more frequently.
B.They squeeze eating between the other daily activities.
C.They regard eating as a key part of their lifestyles.
D.They usually eat too much canned and frozen food.
2. This text is mainly the relationship between _________.
A.Americans and the French
B.life style and obesity
C.children and adults
D.fast food and overweight
3. The text is mainly developed __________.
A.by contrast (对比)B.by   spaceC.by process(变化过程)D.by classification(分类)
4. Where does this text probably come from?
A.A TV interviewB.A food advertisement
C.A health reportD.A book review(书评)

Filmgoers should be told how many calories there are in the popcorn, ice cream and soft drinks that they buy in cinemas, according to the Food Standard Agency.

Smaller popcorn buckets and drink cups should also be made    1    , the nutrition inspector said.

Tim Smith, chief executive of the agency, told The Times that cinemas should help to deal with the country’s overweight     2    .

“There is a misbelief that popcorn is calorie-free, but that is not the case. It is a     3    to us,” he said. “Portion sizes are also a big issue, and there seems to be increasingly big packs on sale.”

He spoke as a number of food chains such as Pret A Manger, Wimpey and The Real Greek     4    to put calorie counts on all their menus.

A trial scheme(试行方案)with 21 food companies took place last summer, and     5    are that consumers altered their buying habits when they realised the number of calories in a product.

A consultation(征询意见) on the trial ends next month but Mr Smith is already planning the second drive for American-style calorie counts and is     6    to win support from cinemas and other entertainment places, from football grounds to concert halls.

Government    7    suggest that two thirds of adults and a third of children are overweight. If trends are not     8    , this could rise to almost nine in ten adults and two thirds of children by 2050, putting them at     9    risk of heart disease, cancer and other diseases.

10 . I know what you’re thinking : pizza (比萨饼)? For breakfast? But the truth is that you can have last night’s leftovers in the a. m. if you want to.
I know lots of women who skip(跳过)breakfast , and they have a ton of different excuses for doing it . Some say they don’t have time.Others think they’re “saving” calories (卡路里), still others just don’t like breakfast food .
But the bottom line is that eating in the morning is very important when you’re trying to lose weight.
“Eating just about anything from 300 to 400 calories would be better than nothing at all,” says Katherine Brooking , R , D , who developed the super-easy eating plan for this year’s “SELF CHALLENGE”. And even pizza can be healthy if it’s loaded with vegetables, and you stick to one small piece.
Breakfast is one meal I never miss, and the same goes for most weight loss success stories. Research shows that eating breakfast keeps you from overeating later in the day. Researchers at the University of Southern California found that breakfast skippers have a bigger chance of gaining weight than those who regularly have a morning meal.
So eat something in the morning, anything. I know plenty of friends who end up having no breakfast altogether, and have just coffee or orange juice. I say, try heating up last night’s leftovers-it may sound crazy, but if it works for you, do it! I find if I tell myself, “You can always eat it tomorrow,” I put away the leftovers instead of eating more that night. Try it…you may save yourself some pre-bedtime calories. And watch your body gain the fat-burning effects.
1. The word “leftovers” in Paragraph 1 probably means__________.
A.food remaining after a mealB.things left undone
C.meals made of vegetablesD.pizza topped with fruit
2. What can we infer from the text?
A.Working women usually have breakfast in a hurry.
B.Many people have wrong ideas about breakfast.
C.There are some easy ways of cooking a meal.
D.Eating vegetables helps save energy.
3. According to the last paragraph, it is important to____________.
A.eat something for breakfastB.be careful about what you eat
C.heat up food before eating itD.eat calorie-controlled food
4. The text is written mainly for those_____________.
A.who go to work earlyB.who want to lose weight
C.who stay up lateD.who eat before sleep
