文章大意:这是一篇说明文,文章解释了为什么锻炼对青少年很重要以及如何开始进行锻炼。

1 . Why Is Exercise Important to Teenagers and How to Get Started?

Teens get involved in a lot of things in high school. Some are involved in clubs and others are part of the band. There are many reasons why sports are great for teens and here’s how they can get started.

One of the biggest benefits for teens to be involved in sports is that it keeps them active. Some teens would be content to play video games or watch television all the time they’re at home. If a teen spends all their waking time being inactive they could gain weight and become unhealthy.     1

Be sure your child knows to warm up properly before playing any sport. Warming up before any physical activity will help your child avoid injury.     2

Encourage your teens to try out for one high school sport. Perhaps they’re not comfortable with football, but that doesn’t mean they wouldn’t excel in swimming or tennis. They may also enjoy playing baseball or soccer. Girls may enjoy basketball, swimming.

Many sports team will require that students try out before being able to join. Try-outs may include showing how active your teen is, running, jumping or if they are quick enough. They want to ensure your teen has at least the minimum skills required for the sport they’re trying out for.     3     That shouldn’t prevent them from trying to play team sports. There are often teams with the YMCA or other leagues which are just for fun.

Being a part of a sports team can also help your teen make friends.     4     They spend so much time during practice and at games that they can become very close. Of course, no one will be able to take your place as their family, but you’ll be glad they’re able to make good friends.

A.Athletes almost become like a second family.
B.This is a good practice whether they’re practicing with the team or exercising on their own.
C.Do everything you can to encourage your teen.
D.Being a part of a sports team will help them burn calories so they will remain healthier.
E.Your teens may not feel that they’re good enough to make their high school sports team.
F.High school coaches are going to do their best to keep their team members healthy.

文章大意:本文为一篇说明文,文章主要介绍了一种新的锻炼方式:水中运动。

2 . Have you tried to run or walk for exercise and then given up? If you answered yes, you should try a new kind of exercise: aquatic (水中的) exercise. Aquatic exercise is like exercise on land, but you do it in a swimming pool. More and more people are trying aquatic exercise now.

Aquatic exercise feels easier than exercising on land. Why? You weigh about 90% less in the pool. It is better for your knees than running or walking. Water is about 1,000 times thicker and heavier than air. To move through the water, your body has to work four times as hard. As a result, you can burn more calories (卡路里).

In fact, most people say they feel more relaxed in the water. They stop thinking about the things that make them worried. They feel in control of their bodies. The cool, quiet environment makes them feel good.

But what if you are afraid of the water? No problem! There is nothing to worry about. Aquatic exercise is safe and easy to learn. It doesn’t require any special skills. You don’t even need to know how to swim. Aquatic exercise is for everyone.

1. What is Paragraph 2 mainly about?
A.Difference between air and water.
B.Weight change of one’s body.
C.The advantages of aquatic exercise.
D.The ways to do aquatic exercise.
2. What do most people think of aquatic exercise?
A.Relaxing.B.Worrying.
C.Challenging.D.Boring.
3. According to the passage, aquatic exercise is _________.

4 . We all know that exercise is good for your health, but some kinds of exercise may be better than others.

Running, for example, may help to protect against heart disease and other health problems. Running may also help you live longer. Researchers say it is not important how far you run. It also does not matter how fast or even how often you run. As advertisements for the running shoes Nike say, “Just do it.”

Recently, researchers studied more than 55,000 adults.About one fourth of the adults reported running regularly. The study found these runners were considerably less likely than non-runners to die of any form of disease, including heart disease. In fact, the runners usually lived three years longer than the non-runners.

This study lasted 15 years. During that time, more than 3,400 of the individuals died. About 1,200 of the deaths were linked to heart disease, a heart attack or stroke. Compared to non-runners, runners showed 30 percent lower risk of death by any causes. Also, runners compared to non-runners showed 45 percent lower risk of death by cardiovascular (心血管的) disease.

The runners in the study ran between 10 and 16 kilometers per hour. Slower runners, and those who only ran once or twice a week, were helped nearly as much as those who ran faster and further. Researchers looked at the running over time and found that persistent runners (over six years) showed the biggest benefits.

To stay healthy, doctors suggest that adults up to age 65 do 150 minutes of moderate (适度的) exercise every week. They say these individuals need 75 minutes of energetic exercise, like running, every week for good health.

1. For running, the most important is that you should .

5 . What an athlete eats before, during and after exercise is important for comfort and performance during exercise. While eating soon before exercise doesn’t provide what is needed for the activity, it can prevent hunger during exercise. What is needed for muscles is stored in the days before exercise. This is one reason that the post-exercise meal is very important to recovery and being ready for the next exercise.

Exercising on a full stomach is not a good idea. Food that remains in your stomach during an event may cause stomach upset. To make sure you have enough energy, yet reduce stomach discomfort, you should allow a meal to fully digest before the start of the event.

If you have an early morning race or exercise, it’s best to get up early enough to eat your pre-exercise meal. If not, you should try to eat or drink something easily digestible about 20-30 minutes before the event. The closer you are to the time of your event, the less you should eat. You can have a liquid (液体) meal closer to your event than a solid (固体) meal because your stomach digests liquids faster.

Because glucose (葡萄糖) is the energy source for most exercise, a pre-exercise meal should include foods that are high in carbohydrates (碳水化合物) and easy to digest. This includes foods such as fruit, bread, energy bars and drinks.

Planning is necessary if you are competing in an all-day event, such as track meets or other tournaments. You should plan ahead and prepare meals and snacks that you have tried before. Do not experiment with something new on the event day.

1. To prepare for the next exercise, you should ________.
A.eat soon before exercise
B.eat during exercise
C.eat after exercise
D.eat nothing at all
2. Fully digesting a meal before an event may ________.
A.cause stomach upset
B.give enough energy and stomach discomfort
C.give comfort and good performance during exercise
D.lead to hunger during exercise
3. What can we learn from the passage?
A.You’d better have your pre-exercise meal after an early morning race.
B.Fruit and bread are high in glucose and easy to digest.
C.Planning is not necessary for track meets.
D.You can try something new for your meals on the event day.

6 . You can get a lot from being healthy. Everyone needs to take time to exercise. There are lots of ways to improve your health without having to go to a gym. Here are some tips on how to better make use of your free time while staying healthy.

By keeping physically active, you’re making sure that your joints(关节) and body organs are kept in good working order. Exercise can also help keep your weight at a healthy level and can protect you against catching a cough and a cold. Other benefits are an increase in your energy level and brain activity. Knowing that you’re looking and feeling good can also increase your self-confidence.

If you’re under 18, you should try to do a total of 60 minutes of physical activity every day. This includes anything from taking weightlifting(举重) at the gym to walking upstairs. If you’re over 18, it’s at least 30 minutes of exercise at least five days a week.

Getting fit isn’t all about gyms—some forms of exercise don’t cost you any money, and most forms can easily be used in your busy lifestyle without having to find some special time in your day. Riding a bike to school, college or work, and even running in the playground a few times a week can improve your fitness level.

Getting fit isn’t just something you have to do by yourself. Playing team sports like football or basketball is great exercise, and it is often more enjoyable because you’re playing with a group of friends.

7 . Physical education, or PE, isn’t required for all high school students. In some schools, it isn’t offered for some different reasons. But should high school students have physical education? The answer is certainly “yes”.

Today many people don’t do sports. But as is known to all, doing sports is very important for an adult. Teaching teens the importance of a healthy lifestyle and making fitness plans now can help teens put exercise in the first place as an adult.

High school isn’t that easy. Many students are under a lot of stress. Stress can be harmful to a student’s study and life. Doing sports can help them deal with stress better, helping them live a happier life at school.

The American Heart Association says that 10 million kids and teens suffer from obesity (肥胖症). Teens should get 60 minutes of physical activity per day to control their weight and to help their bones get stronger. The increase in activities that don’t get teens to move around, such as video games and computer activities, means many teens don’t get their required exercise. PE classes act as a public health measure to encourage physical activities and help teens have healthy weights.

Not doing sports increases teens’ risk of developing many diseases. An active lifestyle offers a good way of protection from these health problems. As much as 75 percent of health-care spending goes toward treating medical conditions that can be hindered by lifestyle changes, according to the American College of Sports Medicine.

According to the President’s Council on Fitness,Sports and Nutrition (PCFSN), students who performed five hours of physical activity each week improved their academic (学业的) performance. Students from programs with no physical activity, who used the extra time for classroom study, did not perform better on tests than those who gave up some study time in support of physical education.

1. According to paragraph 2, what does physical education in high school mean?
A.Making teens attach importance to exercise later.
B.Removing the stress faced by teens at school.
C.Getting teens to encourage adults to exercise.
D.Helping teens learn to make good plans.

文章大意:本文是一篇记叙文。文章讲述了作者在一个叫做I enjoy exercise的CD的鼓舞下,从过去不喜欢运动到现在每天都会运动。作者认为振奋人心的话语真地能产生很大的影响。

8 . Years ago, I could not stick to exercising until I bought a CD called I Enjoy Exercise. I listened to it every day. I bought the CD because I wanted to run in a race and hopefully win!

I had assured my 10-year-old son Todd that I would run in a race with him. Unfortunately, however, when that race came, his left leg was hurt in a car accident. Without him running with me, although I took part in that race, I didn’t do quite well in it.

While Todd couldn’t run together with me because of his injury (受伤), he never forgot the promise I made for him. He was always asking me whether I would keep my promise when he recovered in the future. So I decided I was going to train and go all out to win the next race. What I needed was motivation (动力). It happened that one of my friends mentioned the CD which he liked very much, saying that he got a lot from the music in it when feeling down. So I bought it and listened to it while exercising every day.

What happened to my thinking was amazing as I listened to it daily. I started to think about the repeated words on the CD — “I enjoy exercise”. Instead of dreading exercise, I was thinking, “I enjoy exercise.”

I found out how important words are that we play in our minds every day. I went from a person who seldom exercised to someone who started to exercise daily. Just think how our lives will improve if we reflect on the uplifting words of the famous works. I have found the positive messages have greatly inspired me and then changed my life.

How did I do in that race, you might be thinking? I actually became the champion in my age group.

1. Why did the author take part in the race by herself?
A.She would like to win the race.
B.She had a good talent for running.
C.Her son got injured in a car accident.
D.Her son was unwilling to run with her.
2. How did the author get the motivation for training?
A.By recalling some inspiring stories.
B.By listening to the CD while running.
C.By getting timely help from her friend.
D.By forcing herself into keeping running.
3. What does the underlined word “dreading” in Paragraph 4 mean?
A.Fearing.B.Improving.
C.Preferring.D.Taking.
4. What message does the author intend to deliver to us?
A.It’s important to avoid injury while running.
B.The uplifting words make a difference to us.
C.Parents should get along well with children.

9 . Why do we play sports? You might say “to get exercise” and you’d be right. To have fun? That’s true, too. But there’s more.    1    According to the Women’s Sports Foundation, girls who play sports get a lot more than just fitness.

Girls who play sports do better in school. You might think that playing sports will take up much of your study time.     2    Exercise improves learning, memory, and concentration, which can give active girls an advantage in the classroom.

Girls who play sports learn teamwork and goal setting skills. Sports teach us valuable life skills. When you work with coaches, trainers, and teammates to win games and achieve goals, you’re learning how to be successful.     3    Sports are good for a girl’s health. In addition to being fit and keeping a healthy weight, girls who exercise are less likely to get osteoporosis (骨质疏松症) later in life.

Playing sports improves self-confidence.    4    Why? It builds confidence when you know you can practice, improve, and achieve your goals. Sports are also a feel-good activity because they help girls keep in good shape, keep a healthy weight, and make new friends.

5    Playing sports can reduce stress and help you feel a little happier. How? The brain chemicals released during the exercise improve a person’ mood. Friends are another mood-lifter.

10 . Running can be a polarizing (两极分化的) subject. Most people fall into one of two camps: those who love running every morning, and those who would sooner do anything to avoid it. For most of my life, I was planted in the second camp.

I always hated running. I remembered entering a neighborhood 5K race with my dad at age 12; I also remembered that I came in last in the race, followed by only the police car driving patiently behind me. Three years later, I didn’t make the junior volleyball team because I couldn’t run a mile in under 10 minutes. Every time I ran, I felt as though failure — in some form or other — was the only possible result.

The summer after my freshman year, though, I took a job at a summer camp in Connecticut, where I got paid to be a kid again. I spent my days keeping an eye on different camp activities. When it came to exercise, running was my only choice. So, I made a promise myself: Every day, I would run for a while. By most runners’ standards, it wasn’t far; I guessed it was only about a mile. But I decided to do it every day, no matter how long it took. The exercise lasted for 61 days — the entire time I spent at camp that summer.

I started to feel better about myself. But to my great surprise, I learned to love running, too. I went from fearing the sport to loving it. I’ve finished seven marathons (马拉松赛跑) and more shorter races than I can remember, and now I am a running coach. These were the secrets I discovered to changing my way of looking at life.

1. What was the author’s attitude to running at first?
A.He deeply loved it.
B.He refused to do it.
C.He thought it tiring.
D.He thought it a waste of time.
2. What can we know about the author from Paragraph 2?
A.He didn’t like to do any sport.
B.He didn’t believe he could do sports.
C.He didn’t do well in running-related sports.
D.He didn’t join the volleyball team on purpose.
3. What decision did the author make at the camp?
A.To run every day.
B.To do a part-time job.
C.To fully relax himself at the camp.
D.To take part in different activities.
4. How does the author look at running after the camp?
A.It is a difficult thing to do.
B.It has become a boring sport.
C.It makes no difference to him.
D.It has changed his life in a good way.
