5 . Have you ever noticed little specks (斑点) in the iris (the colored part) of your eyes? The specks, which occur in about 60% of the population, are clusters (组,族) of abnormal melanocytes (黑素细胞).Experts suspect that, like skin freckles, they may develop in response to sun exposure."We think that the pathway involved in iris freckles formation could be quite similar." Christoph Schwab, MD, wrote in an email to Health.

To investigate this theory, Dr.Schwab teamed up with other ophthalmologists (眼科医生) and dermatologists (皮肤病专家) to examine the skin and eyes of more than 600 people.Seventy-six percent of the participants possessed at least one eye freckle. They tended to be older than folks who had no eye freckles. And they were also more likely to report a high number                    of sunburns during their lifetime, and have sun-damaged skin and age spots. The researchers also noted that the participants were recruited(招募) from public swimming pools. They may have led outdoorsy lifestyles, with greater exposure to UV light than the average person.

While eye freckles themselves are usually not dangerous to health, they may serve as a warning sign for sun-related health problems, the researchers concluded."The presence of iris freckles also indicates sun damage to the skin, a risk factor for several different kinds of skin cancer.Within this context, there is certainly a need for further studies investigating the association between skin cancer and iris freckles, they wrote.

"The investigation of iris freckles in several eye diseases could lead to new knowledge regarding their pathogenesis (病原)," says Dr.Schwab.

For now, Dr.Schwab urges caution: If someone exhibits iris freckles, especially at a young age, I would reconsider current sun protection strategies."To keep your skin safe and your eyes freckle-free, remember to apply plenty of SPF even when it's cloudy, and wear shades or a hat to protect your eyes from the sun.

6 . Waking up with “morning breath” is quite normal, and it usually goes away after eating and drinking, or brushing your teeth. Your breath can also smell different after drinking coffee or alcohol, or eating spicy food, garlic or onions—sometimes you may think you've got bad breath when actually it's quite okay.

However, if you're concerned or embarrassed about halitosis(口臭)—ongoing bad breath, a trip to the doctor or dentist should be in order, because there could be something else going on with your health.

Your mouth is the first place to investigate the origin of bad breath. When smell-causing bacteria attack food after eating, they release strong-smelling sulphur(硫). People with halitosis may have more of these bacteria present in their mouth. Additionally, not cleaning, or brushing your teeth properly leads to a build-up of harmful substances on the teeth, and can cause some swelling and strong smell in the mouth. Medical conditions that reduce the amount of saliva(唾液)in the mouth can cause problems too. That's because saliva keeps the mouth just wet, reducing strong smell.

Strong-smelling breath can be a symptom of medical conditions such as mouth or throat infections. A pear-smelling breath caused by high blood sugar, which occurs as a result of uncontrolled diabetes(糖尿病), can also indicate some other serious diseases.

If you're worried how your breath smells at close range, nutritionist Katrina Pace comes to the rescue with simple tips. "Keep away from sharp-tasting food, drink and alcohol," Katrina said. "Drinking water regularly and chewing fresh parsley(欧芹)can also help."

1. When should we see a doctor about a bad breath?
A.After eating sharp-tasting food.B.When waking up with morning breath
C.After drinking coffee or alcohol.D.When having continuous smelly breath.
2. What does paragraph 3 mainly talk about?
A.The causes of bad breath.B.The effects of medicines
C.The importance of saliva.D.The necessity of teeth-brushing.
3. What can we learn from paragraph 4?
A.Strong-smelling breath may result in diabetes.
B.Mouth infections are a symptom of bad breath.
C.Pear-smelling breath may be a sign of some diseases
D.Throat infections are caused by strong-smelling breath.
4. In which section of a newspaper may this text appear?

7 . Directions: Read the following passage. Summarize the main idea and the main point(s) of the passage in no more than 60 words. Use your own words as far as possible.

Faces communicate feelings. They can tell people if we are happy, sad, or confused. Faces have another use, too. Like your unique fingerprint, your face can identity you. Unless you have an identical twin, there is no one else in the world with your face. By matching the code of any new lace to the codes for faces that are already in the database, nowadays facial-recognition technology can probably pick up the same person.

Now, organizations are using your face for many different purposes. Police department uses facial-recognition databases to identify people. For example. The U. S. police analyzed the data from the facial-recognition technology to look for terrorists at a large sports event in Florida. Another use is for preventing identity theft. Banks will use a customer’s “face-print” for identification instead of an ID card, which are easy to steal.

Not everyone is happy with these developments. Many people feel that facial-recognition technology can be an invasion of privacy. For example, advertisers are using the technology to analyze people’s laces. When people walk by an outdoor advertisement, the sign takes their picture. It analyzes the picture and suggests products for these people to buy, such as makeup. People have another concern: A stranger may take your picture without your knowledge, match this photo to one on a social media website, and obtain your personal information such as age, interests, and even address.

Experts hope that we will find ways to limit the risks of the technology. It’s certain that as the new technology develops, we will need new laws to protect people. Meanwhile, experts have a suggestion: Simply tilt your head 15 degrees to the side when someone takes your picture. Facial recognition doesn’t work on faces in this position!

8 . First-Aid to Stop Nosebleeds

Nosebleeds occur when the inner lining of one's nose is hurt or dry. Although a nosebleed maybe frightening, most conditions that cause nosebleeds are not serious or life threatening.    1

Position your body. To begin, sit down, since it is more comfortable than standing. Tilt head forward so that the blood drains through the nostrils.    2    A towel can be held under your nose to collect the blood. Do not lie down as this can cause blood to pass down the throat.

Press the nose. Use your thumb and index finger to hold your nostrils for 5 to 10 minutes while you breathe through your mouth. This puts pressure on the part of your nose that's bleeding and can make the blood stop flowing.    3

Cool yourself down. Lowering your body temperature can help reduce the blood flow to your nose. To do this, place ice cubes in your mouth. This helps achieve a lower temperature sooner than cooling the external part of the nose.    4    This is more effective than placing a cold compress over the nose. You can also suck on a popsicle to achieve the same result.

5    After bleeding has stopped, you can clean the area around your nose with warm water. After you have cleaned your face, you should rest for a while. This is to help to prevent further bleeding.

A.Be gentle on your nose.
B.Wash your nose and rest.
C.Keep your head above your heart.
D.It also helps you keep the lower temperature for longer.
E.You should see a doctor if you do not have a serious issue.
F.If bleeding continues, reapply pressure for another 10 minutes.
G.You can perform some first aid at home during a nosebleed to help stop it.
