We need more men in our hospital, not as doctors, but as nurses. Over the last few years, I have found that having male nurses is a real bonus, and they     1     have a place in our hospital. There are several reasons for wanting male nurses here, not only because half the population in our country is male. Men are excellent carers and are     2     good at taking care of others. In fact, many men take good care of their children, wives, parents, sisters, brothers, and even their nieces and nephews.

Another reason that men can     3     great nurses is that in general, men are physically stronger than women. Male nurses can help     4     heavy objects, or if, for example, a patient cannot move from the waist down, male nurses can help move the patient into a comfortable     5    . Also, male nurses can be a great help in keeping patients     6     while they receive painful treatment, such as when bandages covering wounds are changed. Another advantage to having male nurses is that they see things from a different     7     from women and bring a male way of thinking to problem-solving. This allows the hospital to work more effectively than if we only     8     problems one way. Having a mix of male and female nurses also helps create a fun atmosphere, which helps patients recover faster.

Currently, only 7% of our nursing staff are men; this number is far too low, and the problem requires correction. Having more male nurses will help create a positive     9     between male and female staff, and it will     10     patients the choice of a male or female carer. I am determined to take on more male nurses here at Central Hospital. I will be organizing an open day soon to allow interested young men to visit our hospital and find out more about nursing. Hopefully, we will have more male nurses in our hospital soon!

文章大意:本文是一篇说明文。文章介绍了医学模拟中心让学生可以得到更多的锻炼,积累更多的经验,让病人面临较少的危险,同时训练结果也令人满意。

4 . The University of Miami’s newest hospital has a six-bed emergency room, operating room, a birthing room and outpatient clinics. The only thing missing is patients. Instead, nursing students get a realistic clinical experience using computerised mannequins (fake patients) and staff actors.

“Practising on real people can be a bit frightening environment, and as our patients become more knowledgeable, they tend to hesitate when a student walks in,” said Susana Barroso-Fernandez, who oversees UM’s simulation (模拟) program. “We created this environment to allow students to practise and make mistakes and never put a patient or student at risk.”

This hospital is part of a growing trend of colleges building simulation centres to provide real-life experience for students. The move towards simulation has increased as nursing programs have grown faster than hospitals’ capacity to accommodate these students.

A 2014 study found that colleges could use simulation to replace up to half of all clinical experience without any negative results. The students scored just as well on nursing license exams as those getting most of their experience in hospitals and healthcare centres.

There are major benefits of simulation, officials said. In addition to giving students a safe environment to practise, it also gives students experience with situations that are rare, but still important for them to know how to handle them.

The Simulation Hospital will also be used as a training place for people outside of UM, including hurricane training. “It’s not just about nursing education,” said Susan.

1. Which of the following best proves UM’s simulation program worked well?
A.Students performed as well.
B.It offered students all clinical experience.
C.Nursing programs have grown faster.
D.The hospital will be used as a training place.
2. What does the underlined part “a growing trend” in Paragraph 3 refer to?
A.Launching nursing programs.
B.Building more healthcare centres.
C.Improving hospitals’ capacity.
D.Colleges building simulation centres.
3. What’s the function of Paragraph 4 for the whole passage?
A.To make the point more persuasive.
B.To make the description more vivid.
C.To make the program more appealing.
D.To make the topic more interesting.
4. What might be the best title for the passage?
A.More Experience, Less Risk
B.Safer Environment, More Patients
C.More Practice, Fewer Mistakes
D.Newest Hospital, Best Accommodation

“I had to run after her, saying I can help her with the problem,” said Diarra Boubacar. The 53-year-old still has a good laugh when he talks about his first day working as a doctor of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) at a private hospital in Chengdu, Sichuan province.

“I want to build not only a hospital but also an educational centre where people can come and learn about Chinese medicine,” Boubacar said.

10 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

Amelia worked as a nurse for 5 years and loved it. She loved helping others and found the job demanding, but always rewarding.

The beginning of March was far from optimistic because by the middle of March there were just over fifty patients in the hospital with the same illness. Most were on ventilators(呼吸机),which helped them to breathe. Then on the 23rd of that month there was a national lockdown, which meant most places were closed apart from supermarkets and essential shops. People could only leave their homes for a short while to do shopping or to pick up medication. All the streets were empty.

Amelia arrived at work an hour before her shift started. The journey there was quicker than normal, because she was the only one on the bus. And obeying the new rules, she wore her mask the entire trip.

Another shift over with, she was exhausted. The bus turned up on time. She got on and noticed a different person at the wheel. “Where’s the usual driver? ” she asked politely.

The younger man looked sad, and replied grimly(严肃地), “The virus got him,Miss. He was a friend of mine. ” Amelia was shocked by the news. “I’m so sorry to hear this. He was a lovely man. ” “Yes, he was, ”the driver said.

She showed her ticket and headed to a seat. At the back of the bus was the woman she recognized from somewhere. On the journey home every street was quiet.

Amelia put on her earphones and closed her eyes. The terrible events of that day were now becoming a distant memory.

A week later on a Thursday Amelia left the hospital a bit later than normal, as it had been a very busy day. She’d worked the last four days and just wanted to go home. She realized the chance of catching her normal bus would not happen. The next one should arrive shortly. Amelia glanced at her watch and the bus was twelve minutes late.
