2 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

Amelia worked as a nurse for 5 years and loved it. She loved helping others and found the job demanding, but always rewarding.

The beginning of March was far from optimistic because by the middle of March there were just over fifty patients in the hospital with the same illness. Most were on ventilators(呼吸机),which helped them to breathe. Then on the 23rd of that month there was a national lockdown, which meant most places were closed apart from supermarkets and essential shops. People could only leave their homes for a short while to do shopping or to pick up medication. All the streets were empty.

Amelia arrived at work an hour before her shift started. The journey there was quicker than normal, because she was the only one on the bus. And obeying the new rules, she wore her mask the entire trip.

Another shift over with, she was exhausted. The bus turned up on time. She got on and noticed a different person at the wheel. “Where’s the usual driver? ” she asked politely.

The younger man looked sad, and replied grimly(严肃地), “The virus got him,Miss. He was a friend of mine. ” Amelia was shocked by the news. “I’m so sorry to hear this. He was a lovely man. ” “Yes, he was, ”the driver said.

She showed her ticket and headed to a seat. At the back of the bus was the woman she recognized from somewhere. On the journey home every street was quiet.

Amelia put on her earphones and closed her eyes. The terrible events of that day were now becoming a distant memory.

A week later on a Thursday Amelia left the hospital a bit later than normal, as it had been a very busy day. She’d worked the last four days and just wanted to go home. She realized the chance of catching her normal bus would not happen. The next one should arrive shortly. Amelia glanced at her watch and the bus was twelve minutes late.

3 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

I am a doctor, so I love my job. I always have, but I feel particularly proud to do it at the moment. With COVID-19 sweeping through Wuhan, people are avoiding hospitals as possible they can. However, pregnant women still need to come into the hospital. Babies still need to be born.

Right now, it is even scarier for these women, as they have to come in on their own, often feeling frightened. Their families are separated from them due to safety measures. We’ve always provided physical support, but now we are doing so on a different level — we also have to keep them company and offer emotional support. Unfortunately, some of the women have caught corona-virus, and being at the hospital puts me at risk. Personally, I feel protected because we have full personal protective equipment, which we wear all through our 13-hour shifts. You don’t know if someone is carrying corona-virus or not.

I didn’t want to put my family in danger by bringing the virus home and possibly passing it on to them. As a single parent to my children, Xiaohua, 12 years old, and Xiaoyong, 9, I realized I had to make a very tough decision about my family’s safety when the country went into lockdown. Giving up work wasn’t an option for me. I wanted to be able to look after the women who were feeling poorly and very scared, but I could not leave my little angels behind either.

At this point, my sister suggested that the children stay with her and her husband for the time being and leave me to my hospital duties. I thought it was a great idea, so we set a date for her to pick them up. When I explained the situation to my angels and told them they needed to stay with their aunt for a while, they both seemed upset, but agreed to go. On the day I saw them off, they kept looking back at me until they were too far to be seen.

4 . 阅读下面材料,根据所给情节和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

Sally had trouble speaking in social situations. I’m a registered nurse and I love kids and dogs. I wanted to use Bella to bring her joy, comfort and confidence the way only a dog can.

That morning in January, her teacher led us to a room by the school office. “Sally hasn’t spoken outside her home in the last two years,” she told me. “Her parents have taken her to doctors, but   nothing has worked.” A little girl stood shyly just inside the doorway. Her eyes brightened when noticing my dog.

“This is Isabella Rose. I call her Bella,” I said. “Would you like to pet her? She doesn’t know anyone here and she’d like to meet you. She does tricks. Would you like to see?”

Sally nodded. I motioned with my hand. Bella lay down and then rolled over. Sally’s eyes cheered up. “She’ll do it for you too,” I said. “I can teach you.”

I showed Sally the hand signals for various commands. She was a natural with Bella. Soon Sally was able to take Bella at her pace all on her own. I could see her standing taller, more sure of herself each time we met.

One morning, when she was working with Bella, I heard a tiny voice, barely a whisper: “Good dog.” Sally didn’t take her eyes off Bella, but I wanted to jump for joy. Sally spoke a little more each week, only to Bella at first, but then to me. Later, she started giving voice commands with her hand signals and her confidence rose. Still, she hadn’t spoken in her classroom.

“Could you bring Bella to my class and show the other kids her tricks?” Sally asked me one day.   An idea struck me. “Why don’t you do it?” I said. “I know you can. You’re as good with Bella as I am.” Now, Sally stood nervously in front of her kindergarten class, with Bella sitting calmly by her side. Her classmates focused on Sally, waiting for her to speak.
